So good to get a close win...particularly over the Pies.

Really wish we could play every game at Vic Park, Princess Park, Whitten Oval, Punt Rd or Arden St - no more Casey please!

One day the AFL will wake up to the fact that 💩umpiring actually puts people off the game.

That was the most inconsistent, incompetent display I've seen yet at any level.

Brave win really.

They are going to struggle to stay with the top 4 now I feel

Depth can never replace your best players and Gillard, Purcell, and Lampard are that. Argument for Goldrick too.

So if Fitzsimon takes a bigger leap or McNamara slides into the middle with ease, and if we can get some more comfortable HBF performances from the few that have gone through there then we can weather it.

Otherwise, we just might lean in to scoring heavily and getting the forwards more in sync.

Mackin another that's so important to the team...

Hopefully we have 21 players to field a team. I think it’s now going to get very hard to compete with 6-7 regulars out and Purcell especially

I've softened on umpires over the years, but I have to agree with this.

And it would be fine if it was upcoming umpires making mistakes. But by far the worst umpiring came from Chris Donlon, who's umpired well over 400 games. He just [censored] the bed in the final quarter.

Dillon was there talking to Che Guerra for most of the match. Probably making personally delivering the brown paper bag.

Paxy was good but sloppy, Hanks needs her purcell back, and the fast handball game needed to be put aside for a more direct territory game.

Great to see Riggors play, and Wotherspoon was strong across half back. Wish Zanks could just let negative go, and Bannon be more consistent.

Lizy solid again as was Maevo. Good win!

In a lot of ways that was a very un-Melbourne performance. So fumbly and lots of poor decisions. The forward handball that served us so well in the previous two games got shut down really well by Collingwood.

And Collingwood were excellent. Brit Bonnici is an absolute gun - and has been for ages. That's one of the best individual games I've seen in the AFLW.

Good to squeak home, but I do worry that all the injuries might have brought us to a screeching halt.

(Victoria Park is a great place to watch footy.)

It should be a permanent VFLW venue. Build facilities for say 8k and you have an inner city stadium well served by public transport. You could play day games on Saturday and Sunday. Make it a family venue/outing especially as the weather improves.

Night games are not the future for AFLW if you want to grow attendances nor unfortunately is Casey

Totally agree. Casey would be fine if the locals were mad for the Demons. Crowd numbers suggest they're not.

Interesting to see how many Melbourne supporters were there today - more than I usually see at even Princes Park, I reckon. Hard to see what the ratio was like in the grandstand behind the goals, but in the wing seating I think the Melbourne fans comfortably outnumbered the Collingwood fans.

I just got home from the game. Terrific, old school footy vibe.

I said exactly the same thing to mates ie - they should only only play AFLW games in Vic the grounds you noted.

Great win. If we can keep presenting like that while halving wins/losses, then our injured players will return and we can build for the back end of the season.

If not for our red and blue jumpers, I would hardly have recognised the AFLW Dees today. Very fumbly, and the Pies totally shut down our forward handballing.

I can't get to many AFLW games, but I would willingly pay to watch Tayla Harris, Hate Hore, and Tylah Hanks play. Absolute jets. Harris in particular - her full pace crash packing, contested marking and outstanding kicking set her apart from every other AFLW player.

Loved Chaplin's game today, but my favourite remains Alyssa Bannon. With her strength and conditioning reaching its current level she has probably lost a metre of pace, but she is spectacular in full flight with her run and carry.

I don't accept the AFL conspiracy re umpiring. The umpiring today was simply poor with many missed free kicks, or even worse, totally misinterpreted frees confusing players from both sides. The 5 free kicks in the last 2 minutes needs to be looked at from and official level. The umpires from today might need a spell down a level - but there might not be enough umpires to rotate those out of form down into the lower grades.

Don’t agree time Vic Park was turned into the free range dog park that it deserves

Despite a valiant effort, the umps just couldn’t get the Pies over the line. Not for want of trying though, they gave it everything. What a [censored] farce.

Not sure if it was the same when watching on TV but at the ground the siren was barely audible. Super annoying, especially since there was a bank of speakers directly in front of us and every single other thing coming out of them was deafening.

This win was starkly different from the first two but we’ll take it. Beating Collingwood is always a special kinda warm n fuzzy.

Oh and if you needed any further evidence of what an incredible captain Max is… he and George were there today from start to finish. Something else that’s cool was that when they went out onto the ground after the match nobody mobbed Max, everyone was too busy clapping and cheering the girls.

I feel there should be more love on here for Chaplin. Without her today we would have been totally and utterly screwe d. Great intercepting mark, probably one of our best kicks and, most importantly, makes good decisions

Happy we won. Also happy that a team came out with huge pressure to try and break us as what's happened in previous season. We responded better than we have in the past. We need to adapt to our missing personal as its short season.

In the end a win is a win.

Honestly. We are blessed to have Kate Hore as our AFLW Captain and leader. She won it with two goals to nail the win. Not enough superlatives.

Kate is a star 💙❤️💙❤️

Yep, just saw their scoreline, again a huge score.

A massive thumping but at a cost. Didn’t Garner sustain an injury today?

Just wanted to say thanks @Ghostwriter and the rest of the cheer squad. Always great to see you and the crew on TV up here in Nsw and we could hear you roaring at the end with that brilliant goal from Hanks to Bannon to Hore.

The 5 free kicks in under 2 mins at the end was outrageous. Our club should lodge a protest. It took a while for me to get over the anger of that and the 75m free shot at goal and the blatant push in the back by 2 players on Harris in the goal square (as bad as kozzies trip) before realising we beat the pies by under a goal.

There is nothing better than beating the pies like that!

Despite the terrible commentators. Anyone know who they were? Saying we stole it. We didn't!

This team never gives up.

We would crush North if we had a full team. It is an amazing achievement to be at the top of the ladder with Heath out for most of the game and so many great players out.

As Kate Hore said, the next man / woman is just stepping up.

I love the way our forwards are sticking marks and kicking stronger year on year. Zanker, Bannon, Hore and Harris are just getting better and better. Some great marks and big kicks today.

A big shout out to Megan Fitzsimons. I always thought she wasn't up to the task, but the last season and this one, she's really just kept building into a great small forward.

Hanks, Paxy and Macca are keeping us going through the middle and Maddie Gai down back are holding us steady.

Despite the fumbles, that was a truly incredible win by an incredible team.

Goldy and Heath back next week hopefully. Let's go!

When is Mick Stinnear going to be given a role with the blokes?

Go Dees. Let's steal a flag

Early 2000s was my favourite era, so nice to see some father sons and daughters coming through.

Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside and a unpleasant realisation of my own vintage.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
