And there goes the year and flag that was 2021.

In an instant we've gone from looking unbeatable, to almost always a chance to now being one of the worst skilled weak under pressure teams in the AFL.

The new coach will need to be a magician to turn this around but even more than that, he'll need plenty of assists, including a whole lot of trading out of the chaff and trading in of some quality ball users with poise, confidence and finishing skills. Especially forward of centre.

The same goes for those around him including the fitness crew.

And no point tinkering around either. This will need a massive change across many levels and lines over at least three to four seasons if we're to get back to being a team that can win these sort of matches and start vying for finals once again.

As Macca so beautifully said about 6 weeks ago....it's time to

DRAIN THE SWAMP!

This has real echoes of the McLardy/Schwab era - so soon after the Jackson/Roos era. That era was just a blip of excellence in a long history of putrid OFF field performances. And the results on-field followed, as they nearly always do.

The hate for Salem is elite!

481 metres gained (5th most). 27 touches. 96 percent de%.

Last week it was 400 metres (7th most), 30 touches at 80 %.

Cant really lament our skills and turnovers and then want Salem gone. They might replace him with Sharp!

The fact is we lose yet another game with more inside 50s. Less marks inside 50s.

Not why we lost, but Jvr and Petty combined output was again below par. They dont work. Copy paste. Even though we've had 2 years of them producing below afl forward quality, we will try yet again in 2026. We will go nowhere until we try something different. They simply dont know how to find space, how many games do you need to see???

When are we extending Langford's contract? And while we are at it, XL and Caleb Windsor.

We've been their little bunny rabbits since 2023 and long before that to be honest. No amount of hating the filth or 'that thug Maynard' will change that.

Let's just accept the losers that we are and that if nothing changes, nothing changes.

Reminds me of the time Brent Moloney was photographed on the front cover of the Herald Sun full painted in red and blue before Queens birthday and another flogging.

It is disappointing that even now after 2021 we do still allow ourselves to be ragdolled by pretend bullys.

I'd rather keep Oliver over Trac. i have withered and waned on this all year. But im sick to death of Trac not playing with intent / agression. That last kick from May which went to sidebottom - Trac should have absolutely cleaned him up. He would have been protected by the footy act and all. He had the perfect opp to get some type of revenge. All night he played with fear running through him.

I really do hope he requests a trade over anybody else. i want him gone.

I’m struggling to understand the vitriol towards Petracca . Watch the last quarter again, he was by far our best player. The idea that he could have saved the faulty May kick is ludicrous. Watch it again , it was 5m short of where intended

Thank God the Goodwin era is over.

He conditioned this group into a lovey, huggy, learnings group of chokers.

Yet another loss decided by a kick - quite a fitting way to end the season.

No skills, system or composure under pressure or in red time. Every time it is close we just can't execute basic, logical football.

Unfortubately Goodwin did this. We can isolate players and moments here and there but this [censored] is synonymous with Melbourne and it has been for quite some time.

Every time Goodwin mentioned 'getting the game on our terms' he was basically telling the whole football world that we play in a comfort zone.

Football is about winning in all circumstances and conditions, not just in your dream scenario at strategy meetings.

New Coach

New Gameplan

New culture built on accountability & winning

The Goodwin gameplan based on control the game, territory, contest and defense (as if it was a guaranteed formula for winning) became, IMO, a subconscious crutch for the players - too inadequate to just play the game on its merits. Our team is completely unequipped to play clutch football and it's embarrassing.

My fear is that it will take at least two pre-seasons to truly get this [censored] out of our system.

Time will tell.

Jvr had a game of dropped marks and taps to opponents to their advantage. But you have to be near the ball to have an impact, even a questionable one.

I think he was actually pretty good tonight.

Petty is a lazy footballer pure and simple.

Steven May obviously thinks his 💩 doesnt stink with some of his efforts tonight.

@Scoop Junior

They don't do it so often ya just know they're not gonna do it.
But we watch the slow motion capitulation unfold anyway.
Bomb it in, bomb it in, bomb it in and hope someone can pull something miraculous out their arzz but no-one ever can.

Just so predictable.

Sharp is the most useless player i’ve ever seen

We have worse. Last time McAdam played he insisted on trying to get behind his opponent, who was bigger than he was and then wasn't fast enough to keep up.

True for that contest, but has little or no impact on rest of game.

He's our highest paid players, running around blaming everyone else.

Get over yourself trac.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
