Fair suck of the sav, I reckon we're lucky to have been given permission for Dunn. Miller and Pickett to play. It is the seconds after all.

It's a joke that some of those players are allowed to play IMO. At least this time the joke is in Sandy's favour, usually they're in the receiving end of a reserves team stocked with AFL grade players.

What are the rules for AFL players playing VFL seconds when the VFL senior side has the bye?

It must be something to do with the number of games played in the AFL or Sandy firsts. All of the senior Melbourne players named have missed chunks of the season so far. Buckley, Frawley, Neaves and Garland would be inelligible. Nevellie is either injured or stiff; or both.

It irritates me, that Frawley was dropped from the Dees lineup. and now has to sit out of footy for the weekend, cause Sandy has a bye

it says a lot about jamar that he is being run in the sandy seconds to find form (and fitness), while neaves, the rookie gets the week off. neaves is catching him quickly. might have already passed him.

good point. it seems to me that the only reason you would drop him, is to get more of a run. obviously thats not going to happen. maybe he needs a week off. did he play for sandy during the break?

Boo hoo!!!!

Why complain about a player that has definitely got 'AFL' written all over him NOT getting a run in what is essentially a third grade side?

Try to focus on the positive.

One week less wear and tear on his developing body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Same goes for Buckley, Johnson and Garland.

Get a grip.

He may have played up forward - but we may need Ferguson in defence with our injuries mounting.

They won by just a point with that team? :o

What happened to Dunn, Moloney and Miller?

Couldn't get a goal between them... Slightly embarrassing for VFL Reserves football.

Posted

Mick,

It may be that some or all of the players you named didn't end up playing.

As for Fergs kicking 6 that doesn't mean much other than that he should get a game at AFL level within the next 12 months.

A year ago I saw a bloke called Newton kick 9 at VFL reserves level against the Bombers including 6 in a quarter. Look how long it took him to make it!

Can we have some confirmation please?

If they did play and didn't kick a goal between them I'd be very very worried.

I'm only guessing but it's possible that Riley might have decided he didn't want some of those players to travel to Bendigo to play in a VFL seconds game. Ferguson played with them last week and needed the match fitness and Pickett needs as much time on the ground as he can get. Moloney could have played half a game in the midfield but Dunn and Miller really don't need a game in the bush IMO.

Hopefully Barry's carrier pigeon will come back with another message soon.

Correct.

THE SANDRINGHAM REPORT by the Carrier Pigeon

The Sandringham Seniors had the bye this weekend but there was no rest for the Reserves who had to travel north to Queen Elizabeth Oval, Bendigo where they got out of gaol with the narrowest of wins over lowly Bendigo Bombers. Despite the presence of half a dozen Demons, the Zebras were unable to provide a full complement of players after a number of withdrawals including Lynden Dunn and Brad Miller who could be selected for Sunday's Melbourne team against Carlton. They went into the game with 21 players (i.e. 1 short). I have highlighted Demon listed players of who Ryan Ferguson was clearly the best:-

Thomas Dean, Ryan Ferguson, Rennie Gilchrist, Adrian Gileno, Daniel Gribbin, Daniel Hayes, Mark Jamar, Marc Johnston, Tomi Johnston, Stefan Martin, Guy Martyn, Peter McGettigan, Brent Moloney, Sam Monaghan, Tom Paterakis, Thomas Paule, Byron Pickett, Spencer Roberts, Shane Tregear, Isaac Weetra, Phillip Zarra.

The best players were Thomas Dean who put in a great four quarter effort and Ryan Ferguson who created havoc on the forward line in the second half. Guy Martyn and Tom Paul were good all day as was Tom Paterakis who has been holding his own in the Zebra seniors lately.

Here's a rundown on how the MFC players went:-

Ryan Ferguson - kicked all six goals in the second half and might have created a short cut for his return to the big time next week.

Daniel Hayes - once again showed some promise and wouldn't be all that far off senior selection.

Mark Jamar - started quietly but got better as the game went on.

Brent Moloney - was only meant to play the first half but ended up playing out the entire game. Kept the Zebras in it in the first half and did well.

Byron Pickett - didn't have much of an impact early but when the pressure was on in the last quarter he really lifted his game.

Isaac Weetra - had a quiet day.

This weekend the roles are reversed with the two's having the bye and the seniors travelling far and wide to Austar Stadium where they will play a 6pm game against the Tassie Devils. The Devils are having a horror season but given the fact that they are at home and the conditions are not likely to be hospitable, Sandy will need to be on its toes particulalry as it may not have a large contingent of AFL listed players to choose from in view of the large injury list at Melbourne.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
