Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If i were paul gardiner first off id let go of my tiny pecker and pull my head out of my ass. He handled this whole situation poorly. ND on the other hand has been admirable in his service to our fine club. If Gardiner and co handle selecting a new coach with the same attidute they have displayed over the last week then God help us. Anyone but Connolly gets my vote.

I cant believe so many of you have Pagan on your lists... We need one of the new breed of coaches to move forward not someone who s past there best.. Pagan has a decent list at Carlton and done nothing at all. they get whipped by 100 every second week. I d be disappointed if we miss the oppertunity to nab a Mckenna Voss or Longmire, we need innovation and a strong knowledge of current footy trends.

Well first up let it be said that I have been a big fan of ND but did recognise some of his faults and can appreciate others opinions on whether he got a dud deal or not.

For our new coach? Well its tough. I think Ratten or Viney would be my choice however I can see the pros and cons for someone like Voss.

I really dont know to be honest and guess we have to trust our board to get it right. They have said they will put the new coach through some exhaustive tests for their abilities in varous areas of critical importance and will be using an outside source to help narrow the field ( assuming there is a field).

The new coach will need to be tough on our players, show them they have to earn their spot in the team and should they be out of form, back to Sandy they go and the ones who have worked hard should be promoted. Simple strategy however one that is often neglected.

We need to get our players in a place where they dont succumb to lower teams like we have in the past and put the foot to the floor and crush the suckers! No more Mr Nice Guys. In this game the Nice Guys finish last.

One advantage to our less than perfect year is that we will have a few choices in the top 20 of the draft and there are apparently a number of good kids to choose from. Perhaps not the Judds or Pavlich's of previous drafts but maybe just what we need.

WE also need to weed out some of the players that are just not going to get us where we want to go and I wont go there now. MOst of you would have an idea who they are. I think

But to ND, I am sorry you are not going to be coming to Brissie for us Qld'ers to thank you for your 10 years of service to our club. We wish you well for your future and as long as it doesnt involve beating the Demons, that you have a long and successful career.

I can't understand why so many people want Voss. He was a great player, yes, but so was Tony Shaw and look how he performed as a coach. Playing and coaching are very very different. Voss has no experience and no idea what coaching is all about. If you want people that have no experience and that are good players why not Dermott?

Todd Viney. It would be great to have a melbourne person back at the club. He would soon toughen some of these players up.

Todd is a fine melbourne man granted-but i want someone who has lifted a cup, Todd was not able to do that- would love to see him as an assistant though. he was tough

Guy McKenna, a couple of reasons, all he knows is success and he has been in clubs with the best facilities and the best manage clubs is the com. He was key part to the best defense in the 90's, with one of his backline team mates already a premiership coachand is now involve with Collingwood who to many have a average list but the coaching staff is getting everything out of his players. He has no emotional link to any players at our club so the tough calls will be easy for him to make and his role at collingwood involves picking the other teams weaknesses and strengths so he will know what we need.

Guy Mckenna for me too.

I think he would be ruthless and he has a winning mentality. He would also surely have a lot of respect from the players, as most of them would of watched him win premierships whilst growing up. Respect from the players is a huge factor. If the players think the coach is a [censored], then they wont follow him. Therefore Chris Connelly should not even be considered.

of the assistent coaches (i.e. chris bond, guy mckenna, mark harvey...) i think its a much of a muchness between them... any one of those could fill the job well...

the other choice is to go for a proven coach like sheedy, pagan, conolley if they become available. this is the safest option.

the last option is to go for an untried commodity like voss. if we dont get him this season then someone else will snap him up for the top job.

my preference would be Guy McKenna. he has coached his own team (claremont) and been assistent at WCE and collingwood who have both had success. he has the smarts and will make good decisions. i would love voss but i dont think its worth the risk considering he has no experience at how an afl club works behind the scenes

we will have a coach who will pass all the psychological testing and say the right things.we are getting an assisstant coach from somewhere.a longmire ,mckenna etc someoned versed in saying what needs to be said.

i would like to see Jeans ,Sheedy,Malthouse,Blight pass these tests.i think brilliant coaches need to be a little off centre .

the whole game sucks now as lateral thinkers slowly leave the game.i guarantee one thing is coming to melbourne and its the flood.

I actually concur here. I wonder if they would. Whilst I applaud the process for thouroughness I hope it doesnt homogenise the result. I very much think its tthe coaches that bring 'diffences' to their game that have the edge.

Spot on! We need a bit of creativity in the game - I love watching the creative and unpredictable players ( and we have had a few - Farmer, Jakovich, Schwarz, Davey, Robbo are just a few recent examples). A coach who does a great job on a psychological test is not likely to empathise too much with these types of players.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
