That surprises me, thought he'd go pretty deep.

There's always an assistant with elevated levels of street cred. Whispered about as the next great thing. When in reality who really knows capability until their club issued suit pants are 5mm from the fire.

Skipworth is the current version. Largely based on finishing second in the Franchise job that no one wanted

Maybe this is normal for these sorts of processes but do we really need to give the media a running commentary of the interviews. Just seems terribly unprofessional.

I'd normally agree, but if say Buckley has been chosen, it might be good messaging to dissuade any of the candidates that it was always a boat race all along. If the panel makes noises about being blown away by one of the other candidates, who ultimately just misses out to Buckley, well, it was a close race.

Jeez, I'm cynical.

Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation we've found ourselves in here: we go Bucks and "it was always a boat race" or we chose other and "they pulled a reverse uno to legitimise their hiring process"

Probably. Anyway [censored] social media

With these comments about how fantastic some of the other candidates are or presented. At least it’s a payback of sorts to them for having the guts to interview. No loss of credibility next time. If Buckley is the chosen one.

We have no coach but have moved on 7 players, it’s going to be shape up or piiss off.

And definitely a new look team. Go Dees

So far we have heard of the impressive 3 candidates but yet there has been no names to who those candidates were that impressed.

There was a report on here from twitter that James Kelly was one who blew us away

Do we know who the other two were??

Assuming one is Bucks. If it wasn't we probably would have heard about it by now

No clue mate, I’d guess Nathan Buckley would be one, otherwise I’d imagine he’d have left the race if he felt it didn’t go well.

so maybe Buckley, Kelly and lade/gian/king

makes you wonder if we have a plan A, B and C if option A would be now considering a job offer and we’re waiting for an answer?

Kelly. Nailed the interview apparently.

You have to assume that the job is Bucks if he wants it and the only reason he won't want it is because he can't bring in his own team whether that be assistants or high performance or both. Given that we don't seem to have much wiggle room in terms of assistants (assume Chaplin, Bassett & Jones are staying and we haven't heard of Selwyn and team getting the boot) I'm wondering if that might be the sticking point and Bucks bows out because of that.

In addition to the above we might be the one leaking the info about the other candidates blowing our socks off in case we can't satisfy Bucks. We really need to sell these untried "highly rated" assistants if the out and out front runner does a runner.

FYI.. hope this panel can do better than the prior one assembled

(Note, Roos was appointed and Goodwin then appointed as a succession plan)

the prior panel …

"We interviewed extensively for the role, xxxx clearly had a lot of attributes that we were seeking, and decided he’s the man,"

"We're very confident in the structure he's going to put in place, the people around him, his game plan - he's very convinced about his game plan to succeed”.

Dees on

Mark Neeld

And we know how that ended. …

Ah Neeldy. It was a special time.

the one time all of Demonland agreed on something, with that something being that we’d made a big blue in coach selection.

Closest to the pin. Who are the other two?

I'm going Kelly and Lade

I’m guessing Buckley has been offered the role, if he knocks it back it’ll be James Kelly and we will hunt for a senior assistant to support him.

I am hoping that the club a K so have worked out who they are going to offer the head of football to. Announcing coach and shortly thereafter his support team and head of football. Many appointments waiting the call.

The whole “no one wants the Melbourne job” take is lazy. This isn’t rejection, it’s culture.

MFC are smart enough to manage optics so that coaches bow out with respect rather than get publicly stamped as “not good enough.” That protects individuals, protects the brand, and is exactly how you handle a high-profile role in 2025.

Further, It’s not just Buckley’s gig, and we’re definitely not a rabble. What you’re look long at is a club that’s stabilised, understands perception, and is running things like a professional organisation should. That’s what good culture looks like — and a few other clubs could take notes.

Goody was appointed through a similar process to this one. It just had the caveat of a two year apprenticeship.

Richardson is contracted for next year. Also on the selection panel, so make of that what you will.

If I am correct, the club are looking to appoint someone above Richardson. I really hope they do, Richardson has overseen the mess a n d is better suited to a development role.
