Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

Goody dropped the bomb, Casey, who would be insane enough to drive there, wherever it is.

That immediately takes out everybody but a few struggling assistant coaches.

A man like Bucks is not going to start his motor up every day and traverse to that place.

Think we’re going to end up at Waverley

It does make me laugh when anyone earning ludicrous amounts of money complains about commuting to Casey. I stand still on the Monash for a lot less than that. Will happily swap.

I’ve got 3 young kids - I’d be happy to commute to Phillip island for the peace and quiet

I don't think top four in two years is realistic. We have a lot of problems and it's unlikely they can be fixed that quickly particularly considering players like Gawn, May and Melksham are close to the end.

Now for someone who tries to base my thoughts on something... I have really nothing to back this hunch other than it's a hunch.

End of 25 ...a bit of turmoil and grief counselling after the status quo ..goes down down , deeper and down...

A new dawn.. New ppl...some new faces come on board. Some old faces go. Some surprises.

Trade/Draft..... gung ho preseason..

26... bit of an up and down year... lots of new stuff to get jiggy with. Eos 26 ... faces out, faces in.. bigger preseason gets under way.

27... those extra couple of preseasons and gametime paying off for some kids..

Melbourne re-emerges as a serious and capable team. Finals.

For no other reason than it's entirely possible because it could be ..entirely possible.

That is to say... you flip a tail.... the next toss is still fifty fifty.

Get a few things right, and then do it again.

Right atm.... I'm optimistic

The bridge will pisss you off no end.... just saying...

Goodwin and Buckley have fairly similar coaching records

Goody has the better finals record and obviously Bucks took over a premiership team Vs Goodwin a young up and coming team

Bucks missed finals for 4 years with a very good list.

I'm far from convinced

Bucks for mine. Has the profile we actually need. We are a small club we need someone like Bucks. He might get us back on the map. His effort to make the 2018 GF was phenomenal. 2019 lost a prelim as massive favourites. 2020 smashed in a semi. After that pies were done and he was gone in 2021.

Longmire cagey as he doesn’t want to commit and not get the job.

Bucks $1.05. Yes please

What about not finishing higher than 11th for four years straight with a premiership list?

He made finals in his first 2 years when he took over a ‘premiership list’.

How long does a coach still have a ‘premiership list’ for?

If he coaches the Dees next year is he still coaching a ‘premiership list’?

If Buckley wants the job, give it to him right now.

You really want to go there? Comparing underperforming lists?

He's hugging something . . . but it's not a tree.

Only if he brought the whole management team

For those saying Longmire isn't interested, here's a clip from "on the couch" in July 2013 where Jackson is being interviewed and at the time Roos had said he wasn't ready to coach again. A lot can change

4:20 mark

I would say with 15 premiership players in the 22 then yes.

In Collingwoods case they were young and highly touted as the dynasty - more than most. He underperformed supremely and if not a pies legend would have been sacked years earlier

Yep, let’s go there.

Pies 2012 list was stacked and Bucks rebuilt it under the guise of poor culture

You mean the rebuild that led to a GF and Prelim? Yes he never won a flag but got bloody close, coached in more finals appearances and never finished lower than 12th. We played in a Prelim and then finishing 17th. And backed up a flag with four straight losses at the MCG (never been done before) and two likely 14th placed finishes.

On the flip side you have Goodwin who says we have a great culture and close to a flag in what would be a contract year. He was delusional.

Surely Longmire has to be the one. Sydney’s culture has been the envy of the comp for 20 years and he comes from the Paul Roos mould. Longmire will definitely bring some Sydney coaches/ex players into the fold, which has to be a benefit to us. We need a very experienced coach, especially with our CEO having not much footy experience .

Does the mental fragility displayed by his playing group in not one, but four, grand finals concern you?

Somewhat damming the McRae took the same Collingwood side to a prelim and a GF…

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
