CASEY: Rd 20 vs Brisbane Lions

Featured Replies

Having locked in at least a Wild Card appearance at the end of the VFL home and away series, it's time for Casey to show what it's made of against two other finalists before the business end of the season.

The Lions away this week followed by top team Box Hill beyond that presents Casey with a major challenge.

It won't be easy but it will be good preparation for the players.

I think we're about to find out if we're finals worthy or not.

Thanks KC let’s hope they continue playing like our last couple of games, also hope they don’t have to fly in and out on the same day that would be pretty tough.

Not necessarily wishing to get ahead of the cliche ‘one week at a time’. But how many of the AFL listed players who have played for Casey will be eligible to play finals?

The younger brigade Adams, Brown, Kentfield, Mentha, Sestan, Verrall, Woewodin, plus older heads Billings, Campbell, Culley, Fullerton, Laurie would you’d (depending on fitness) think be most likely included.

Henderson, Howes, Jefferson, Johnson, Spargo, Tholstrup, Howes may or may not meet the selection criteria?

Some of the younger VFL listed guys Mitch Kirkwood Scott, Tyson Sruk and Paddy Cross are worthy inclusions but would get the nod after who’s in and out from the AFL squad members.

Rule is no more than 12 AFL games and no less than 6 VFL games for the season.

So everyone at the moment is eligible you mentioned but Spargo has played 10 and if plays last 3 in AFL then he is the only one who could be ineligible.

Would rather have someone like Paddy Cross deserving of a finals game than Spargo. At least he kicks goals and would be part of the Casey team.

Charlie won't be getting at least the next AFL game.

Maybe a finals team like this:

B: Smith, Adams, Sestan

HB: Bonner, Fullerton, Howes

C: Billings, Laurie, Culley

HF: Tholstrup, Johnson, Henderson

F: Spargo, Kentfield, Jefferson

FOLL: Campbell, Woewodin, Hardie

IC: Verrall, Brown, Mentha, Cross, 23rd player

Is Sharp eligible?

Pretty sure that Sharp has played more than 12 AFL games.

Another viewing of Kalani while potential top 5 picks in Willem Duursma and Daniel Annable (Lions academy) will both be lining up.

Just realised that Lindsay isn’t named for Casey. That's two weeks now of no games at either level for him. Management after a long year or perhaps an injury concern? No mention of him in this week's injury report.

Probably shut him down for the year, not a bad call if so. He had a very good year considering he barely had a pre season

Not a bad idea. Kids important for our future and he's had a big year, particularly off a limited pre-season. Can't play Casey finals so getting him right for day 1 pre-season with no niggles should be a priority.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
