It depends what year.

If 2026 it will probably be in the 45 to 50/54 range which carry some draft points for bid matching purposes. If 2027 it may well be in the 50+ range in which case it has little value to anyone.

Either way it is a pick JT probably wouldn't use so we get a player for little cost.

And the Charlie pick could be a key piece in a deal this year.

Yes the 2027 pick could be impacted by Tasmania.

I maintain our strategy to overpay for current year first rounders needs to change and we need to place more value on future picks and later round picks. Running our assets like the Victorian budget makes (some) sense when we are looking to maximise our chances at premierships, but things are different now. We need to be operating like St Kilda, Hawthorn and North have been and play a longer game - clearing cap space for future recruites and turning the list over.

The whole Mihocek recruitment seems out of whack with the other changes to our list. I hope it works for us and he is a player I respect and will love, but I think it is a dumb recruitement decision.

It is far easier to trade future picks, as you can always get back into the draft later

If we are holding onto a 2nd round pick in this year's draft for now, there must be a reason why

Perhaps we think someone will bid on White at around that mark, or we may be looking to package up points to another club

A future 3rd is nothing pick that will be easily obtainable next year, IF we want it

Anyone with any doubts whatsoever, needs to watch these. Does everything a forward should and does it well. Great get.

Interesting highlights. In nearly every goal he got clear separation from his opponent.

In the cases that he led, mostly the ball was kicked in front of him.

In the few where there was body contact he uses his solid frame well to outbody his opponent.

He kicks well. A little dodgy on his left.

This package convinced me (not that I needed convincing) but our kicking onto the forward line is a complete shambles. If King can fix that we have a couple of weapons with Mihocek and JvR. If King and BM can get JvR to stop trying to wrestle his opponent or jump from behind and lead at the ball carrier our fwd line will look good. And get a line coach that can teach JvR some leading patterns and how to lead, double back and generally lose his opponent.

It's blindingly obvious after watching this.

This seems a lot. Effectively gifting 80% of the value of the Spargo compensation back to Collingwood.

Haha, very Melbourne, high brow content. They may as well have a cheeseboard in the background.

Welcome to the MFC Brody - at least we know you will have a red-hot go and not be easily pushed aside.

The number #41 is free if he wants to take it.

If he does, he'd be odds on to top the record for most goals in that number (Chris Woodman with 31).

BRODY Mihocek will wear red and blue in 2026, with the key forward joining Melbourne on the fifth day of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

The club opted to welcome the 32-year-old via a trade with Collingwood rather than as an unrestricted free agent, to maintain compensation received during the Free Agency window.

The Dees will part ways with pick No.61 and a future third-round selection (2026 Telstra AFL Draft), while receiving pick No.71 in the deal.

Mihocek arrives with 159 games and 267 goals to his name, having played across eight seasons in the black and white.

His efforts up forward saw him win the Pies’ leading goalkicker award on five occasions and play an integral role in Collingwood’s 2023 AFL premiership.

“We’re excited to officially welcome Brody to the club,” AFL List Manager Tim Lamb said.

“Brody has been a consistent performer at the elite level for a number of years now, and his presence up forward, as well as his ability to hit the scoreboard, will be a great addition for us.

“He is a terrific character, and we look forward to seeing what he can do in the red and blue.”

Mihocek was selected by Collingwood with pick No.22 in the 2017 AFL Rookie Draft, making his senior debut the following year.

Originally from Tasmania, Mihocek joins former Saint Max Heath in becoming a Demon this Trade Period.

With No.s 4, 9, 13, 14 already available and the possibility that 5 may also be, perhaps he wants a further upgrade (I mean asides from ditching that black and white 💩 for a mighty red and blue one!)

61 for 71 is meaningless until it isn’t. Which is kind of the Tim Lamb special. Just giving a little bit more than he needs in every deal until it adds up over time and the list is shot

Couldn't agree more.

Unbelievable to give away a future 3rd plus do the 61-71 swap. What bargaining power did Collingwood have here? They were not going to get any compensation in free agency as previously mentioned. Rather than improve Collingwood, just take in free agency over this deal. Very worrying to see us needlessly throw extras into deals.

61 was the 3rd round swap from Brisbane we threw in to the Sharp trade last year. Now it’s off to Collingwood. It could’ve been 47.

47 might be in range of a useful pick and/or used with Oliver or Tracc to boost our return there as it has points value.

Instead, it’s gone

Really like this pick up. Can take a grab and kick a goal. A great foil for JVR. Will be a good onfield coach too.

It will be interesting to see how we set up with our medium forwards in Fritsch, Melksham and now Mihocek.

Lamb is a clown. Why did any future pick need to be involved in a free agency deal, let alone one that could fall in the mid 40s?

He'd be perfect working for the state or federal government, splashing around taxpayer money without a care in the world.

Great to have it done.

I don’t sweat the small stuff so don’t care about the value of giving picks in 3rd and beyond in this teenage draft. Yeah, shoot me. IDC

It is my understanding that by making a trade we avoid losing the Charlie Spargo FA compo pick which comes earlier in the draft

The leverage Collingwood had was we didnt want to dilute our Spargo compensation pick, so for that privilege we had to give something to Collingwood that was better than the compo pick they would receive. Otherwise they would have said to us to take him as a UFA for all they care and the consequences of that are on us.
