Season is well and truly over, if if you’re the CEO or a person in power, what are your steps to take the team from essentially rock bottom, to a team that people would hate to play against?

Great start - but how? What do you change?

The ceo is responsible for the whole of club - aflm program is one component only

It’s on all - aflm / vflm and AFLW / vflw footy dept, marketing, commercial team, and most vitally whoever is looking at the long term project that encompasses the potential of Caulfield

It’s a huge job and I don’t envy the new bloke coming in after our aflm / vflm seasons will likely be over, particularly if the likes of Trac and Oliver - or others - request trades once again

I would explain to the board in no uncertain terms that they have a @$^*ing problem on their hands.

I think some honest communication with the players, then the staff, then finally the supporter base.

I know the club is tied with wanting to keep supporters positive and engaged but I’d prefer they come out and say we need change, we agree that standards have slipped, we tried something new and it’s backfired.

The club has pushed the love and happiness too far, the desire to be the best is not there - club wide.

Would you keep the recruiters? I feel our depth is very shallow and the talent we have has really dropped off. Maybe that’s coaching related, but either way there’s issues.

Bring in new people with a vision.

Start with Bartel as General Manager of football.

A new coach from a successful football club and program who brings with them people who can implement a game plan.

Possibly replace Lamb to bring in players who compliment the new vision and new coaches philosophy. Our list runs thin and new recruits (from the draft) are asked to do too much in their first year.

Look at the fitness program. The injury list is impressive, but players cramping in the 3rd quarter today is a worry. So is watching Langford and Lindsay struggling form a long season.

I think as someone mentioned Earlier, the club seems to be happy to be playing AFL, and doesn’t have that fight in them like other teams. Eg: Collingwood and geelong. They both never go away, always fighting and up the top.

Absolutely.

We got lucky that everyone played above themselves in that magical run at the back of ‘21.

The players asking for less contact hours should have been warning enough, the best are always working on themselves, 24/7 - which includes sleep/recovery, I’m not saying they need to be at the club that permanently

Further to my previous post, the club should be keeping an eye on Corey Enright. A Bartel and Enright combo could be a winner.

Without having any knowledge of the aims and goals for this season, I don't think anyone has any idea of what goals have been reached, how improvement has been measured or any of the parameters the club is looking for and not just this year in isolation but moving forward.

What we do know is that the club has invested heavily in Trac, Oliver, Picket, Viney, Langdon, Lever THolstrup, Windsor, & Van Rooyen for the long term and Gawn, Langford, Lindsay, Petty & Rivers until 2027. That has to be the core of the team moving forward. Goodwin is contracted this year and the next, and only the board will know if he is meeting their expectation. Everything else is our opinion, the optics of the team and scuttlebutt from journos.

I hope the board and the new CEO look after governance, finance and set up a football department that is organised, inventive and oversees the men's and women's programs. They (and I have no idea what this department thinks of the season, player and coach performance and health and fitness issues) should be getting regular feedback and reports from the football dept. Simon today correctly stated that AFL is a results-based sport, and good 3-quarter performances don't excite people, but in an 18-team comp, there is only 1 premier.

I want a CEO who keeps out of football matters and runs the club, and overseas on-field and off-field performance. I want a president who communicates, gets the right people in the best positions, demands the best and makes sure the club isn't bullied or misrepresented.

As angry and frustrated as I am with the losses, the goal kicking, the losses, and that diabolical first quarter today, I believe we have to trust those in charge to manage the here and now and the future.

If I was the list manager I think that Fullarton, TMac, K Brown, M Hore will not have their contracts renewed. Billings & Woewodin may be on the cusp and with McVee yet to sign a new contract a little worried

Possibly not, but that would be discussed with The New Coach

Gotta be very careful, not everything is broken

I would focus on why we have been unable to attract seasoned specialist line coaches in the last 2-3 years, e.g., to replace Yze, and why our fitness seems to have deteriorated since we replaced Burgess with Griffith.

The inside word I received prior to the season was Kozzie was leaving to WA and Goody will go at seasons end if we don’t make finals. Take it as you will as Kozzie is a demon for life (overjoyed by this). But at the time I do believe Kozzie was looking elsewhere and informed the club late last year.

If Goody stays it will be more about his payout than wanting to keep him as coach. His win loss record over the last 50 games is not good. Last year’s review recognised that the club had a favourable draw and finals was a minimal pass mark.

I will be forever thankful for Goody and the premiership he gave us all, but it seems he has lost his way and the club should bring in someone new at a reduced pay to stay within the cap in the first year and increase it in later years. (Back loading the contract).

Alan Richardson was seen as a weak Football Manager from the review and he needs to be replaced at minimum at years end. Who knows how the new CEO and President will views things. Their job is to build a strong performing club which includes the football department.

You have to look at the likes of Longmire, Bartel etc. to take over from Richardson.

Coach wise, unless you go to Longmire, I think you can only go for a fresh face. Whoever interviews best I guess, but importantly the interview must be done after our new Football Boss comes in.

I'd move Tim Lamb on. Congrats on giving Kozzy a load of money to keep him at the club. A simpleton could've done that. Who have we recruited that's worth a damn since we won the flag? He has underperformed in his role. So bye-bye.

Is it time for Choco to go as well? I remember when we had that patch where we shot the lights out, everyone was quick to sing his praise. We've been [censored] for years at goal kicking and general disposal. So, bye-bye or move into another role.

No quick answers as we all know

I'm afraid we'll be celebrating minor wins as we struggle each year to make the 8.

5 of our best 22 (May Gawn Melksham McDonald Salem) and maybe Lever will be gone by the end of 2027.

We're hamstrung by high worth extra long contracts so attracting replacements won't be easy and it will become increasingly hard to keep any up and coming youngster who stars.

The bright spot as I see it is that the new style of football may make it easier to find players. 6 foot quick players who can kick and handball on both sides are the future as are forwards who can find space. The latter don't need to be big and tall anymore. It's all about space and delivery.

Financially we'll struggle as memberships and attendances will at best plateau.

Oh well C'est la vie as it has been at most times as a Melbourne supporter
