It's time we stop selling this game. It's embarrassing that we are still selling games. I'd rather us play a home game at Etihad. Our record is poor in the Alice I don't see an advantage playing there.

Totally agree ! Time for other teams to continue AFL’s promotion of the game there.

I have a member survey to email & l will be saying exactly this. I’ve had a gutful of us gifting the 4 points every year during the home & away season on a neutral ground.

If they want to play a game there make it in the preseason & leave our home games on the MCG.

The only thing I don’t like is it appears we struggle to garner much support from the crowd. Interstate sides travel way more than we do so I’m not sure it does any harm and the million dollars surely helps.

We are going to need money for Caulfield.

If we don't get a new home base soon we will be left very far behind.

Unfortunately, we need the money.

The bottom line for any growth and betterment is success.

The Alice provides none. Ultimately it's a waste of time.

Time we move on ( back home )

It's sad we need the money but this isn't the way for me.

Also winning brings in crowds.

We don't do well in Nt. Never had.

It's basically another interstate game ...a long one....where despite us always playing there, never seem to have crowd support.

Over it.

And isn't it taxing for us, playing in the heat?

Plus Alice was not the reason we lost that game. We’ve [censored] ourselves in front of goals at the G plenty.

If you ask every member to pay $20 more for the year to make up the money we get from the NT in order to play an extra Melbourne game, nobody will say no.

I find it strange we often look like we're lacking energy and just going through the motions when we're up there. It doesn't seem like the club has ever fully embraced the NT project. Compare our results over 15 years to what Gold Coast have turned Darwin into over the past few years.

It's particularly odd since under Goodwin we have generally travelled pretty well.

We go there & treat it as a semi holiday. There are lots of clips showing Kosi & others having a great time at Communities & with the locals.

Our opponents turn up laser focused with a single minded purpose to win the game.

oh for the days when gus and jesse were dominating and we were belting the crows by 90 or so...

But the reality is our abysmal record of 4 - 7 is hurting our performance/ladder position.

Compare it to Hawthorn in Tasmania, even North Melbourne win slightly above 50% of their matched down there (despite their last 6 years of misery).

Our goal kicking is hurting our ladder position far more.

It is definitely not worth the money when you factor in that it could be the difference between finals or not.

Get rid of it. It’s an absolute liability and a black hole in our fixture in terms of on field result and membership engagement ie -the rank and file not being able to attend a home game.

Furthermore, there’s absolutely no home ground advantage feel about it. Sure you see the demon army up and about to the left of screen goals but there’s more than a healthy roar when the oppo kick a goal.

St Kilda were distributed $3 million more than us last year from the AFL and some of that would be due to revenue forgone by not selling a home game.

Sadly, and unless Guerra agrees with most of us, I think the game is engrained in the club and is a major part of our business and cultural model. Thus we’ll need to suck it up for at least the next 5 years.

It depends how you define the 'NT project'. Is the objective to go in with tunnel-vision to play a game of football and ignore the context and take home 4 points? Or is the objective to grow the game by extending it beyond the eastern states? I'd argue the investment the club is making by doing so much community work is kind of priceless. Maybe going up a day early and taking minds off football is 'the problem'. But Max has already said that the hour of Footy 4 Life clinic they had the day before the game was the best hour of his life (ok, probably an exaggeration but obviously demonstrates the personal impact it had). You can't quantify the impact of that on a footballer. It's incredibly myopic in my view to reduce the whole Alice trip as 'a loss of 4 points'. As Max says, there's a greater good at play.

I'd hazard a guess that our primary objective is financial.

Despite the club existing mostly on poverty row it is still perceived by the mainstream football community as a toffs and elitist club with the Mayfair touch hence lack of populist support. Mostly hardscrabble Alice residents would rather support any other club against us.

We got 38k against the Swans the week before. We got 37k against the Saints at the G last year fwiw.

I just find it odd that we're the only team that sells our games and has never been able to establish any kind of advantage at the ground even when we were playing finals we've been wobbly in the NT. Even North were a tricky prospect in Hobart before they became anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

North still has a better overall record in Hobart despite being bottom of the ladder for 6 years. Just slightly above 50% win percentage. We are more like just under 40%. Granted the sample size is different.
