I just saw footage of pickett on fox sports, and must say he looked possible the fittest i've ever seen him since he moved to Melbourne.

I had heard about the lowest skin folds ans such but didn't realise the extent of it.

Well done choppy, hopefully this is the turning point and the start of a few great seasons in the Red and Blue!

He must have dropped considerable weight since Sunday at TBO where he was huffing and puffing in the last quarter. <_<

well they showed footage of him when he showed up to sandy trainign and then footage from today and his face seemed thinner as hid his gut and arms.

He didn't need to come off, it was pre-cautionary for friday...

It wouldn't be anything to do with the shaved head would it? I get that 'do done all the time BECAUSE it makes you look younger/slimmer somehow.

I'll believe the hype about all this skinfolds malarkey when he comes out and plays 4 quarters... If he doesn't he'd better play 3 scintillating ones.

skinfolds down is a start, it doesn't mean he will be now mega fit, remember he had no real pre season.

maybe but a shaved noggin doesn't help your arms and such looked less flabby.

Just because you look good or better doesn't mean you are at peak fitness

Exactly my point.

Skinfolds tests are a good start.

But I dont think short stint cameos are a reasonable return from a highly paid expereienced player who has let the Club down significantly.

I totally agree with Dappa Dan. However I would add a further point that he plays good football over four quarters a match for the rest of the games this year.

Madness, was the "huffing and puffing" pre cautionary for Friday night?

agree with Rhino....

there were times on Sunday when he could not even make contests!!

he looked absolutely spent playing on a half forward flank with licence to roam....

i think that he should be made to play at sandy again!!

I dunno what Byron you were watching, but the Byron I watched looked fine and ready to get at 3 quarter time. I'll admit I didn't see him come off the ground, but I can't see how he could go from the state he was at the start of quarter to huffing and puffing...

Pickett is never going to test Cam Bruce in an endurance race but he adds hardness and skill to a side that can lack that and has lacked that this year.

If he's not blowing hard at 3/4 time, I expect he would have been criticised for not putting in the required effort. By all accounts, he has been exemplary since his suspension so I'm not about to have a go at him for that. I thought he was very good for most of last year and pitiful in the first 8-9 weeks this year so I'm glad at the apparent change of attitude.

Now that he has been selected, we'll see how the skin folds translate into fitness/form...

Totally agree with you Madness - I really thought he looked great on Sunday - we will need that extra toughness against the tiges

We all know Pickett wasn't picked up for his fitness. ND and company knew what he was like when they traded for him. It's more the fact that he has worked hard to get himself right after doing what he did.

Plus I feel better having him out there - us Melbourne fans know that we are normally a team who can hand the Tigers their first win, but hopefully Pickett can simply contribute to our third win in a row!

Byron is an impact player, 15 to 20 minutes a qtr should be all the FD expects of him and if on song that should be all he needs to have significant impact on a game.

Thats not too say he isn't required to achieve a certain level of fitness he does but I wouldn't be concerned if he is blowing his guts out at the end of a qtr because he is spent, that just needs to be recognised and his work level monitored closely to ensure we get the most out of him for the longest time possible.

He is not even fit enough to do that!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
