Round 12 kicks off with the Brisbane hosting Essendon at the Gabba as the Lions aim to solidify their top-two position against an injury-hit Bombers side seeking to maintain momentum after a win over Richmond.

On Friday night it's a blockbuster at the G as the Magpies look to extend their top of the table winning streak while the Hawks strive to bounce back from a couple of recent defeats and stay in contention for the Top 4.

On Saturday the Suns, buoyed by 3 wins on the trot, face the Dockers in a clash crucial for both teams' aspirations this season. The Suns want to solidify their Top 4 standing whilst the Dockers will be desperate to break into the 8.

The Giants will want to capitalize on their return to form last week and the young Tigers should not trouble them too much.

The Swans return home after a heavy defeat and will be facing an uphill battle to overcome the Crow who don't want to give up their place in the Four.

The Round closes with the struggling Eagles taking on the in-form Cats in Perth.

Carlton, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide & the Western Bulldogs all have the bye this week.

What a terrible round of footy

Tonight's match will be over by the 15 minute mark

As usual the most interesting match is early Sat afternoon when no-ne can get to a TV

Who is responsible for the fixturing!?

Massive game for Freo, if they can beat the Suns, they have 4 easy games coming up and can get in the top 4

tipping:

  • bears

  • filth

  • gc17?

  • gw$

  • crom?

  • us

  • puddy tatts

pretty much all of those results would benefit, i think with the exception of gw$ and puddy tatts getting up in games that they should canter it in

Looking very likely 5 minutes in.

It could be over by the one-minute mark and I’d still thoroughly enjoy the remaining 119 mins.

Proving a genius move by Scott starting Merrett at halfback and keeping him there so far.

I think the Big Lady entered when Brisbane ran through there banner, lol.

on track

WTF Brisbane?!?!?! You’d better be saving your best for the second half coz a 26pt lead at halftime is not good enough!!! This is Essendon you’re playing…. ESSENDON. Ffs do the righty and smash ’em into the middle of next week!

Soz did I just say that aloud? 🤭

Can only think the lions are loading, just cannot think why. Old times disease I sudpect

I’m wide awake in the middle of a nightmare

As much as I hate to say it, this is impressive from the Bummers. Half their 22 have less than 20 games or are VFL players at best, but their pressure is challenging the Hollywood Bears. And all the Bears front runners - Lohman, Rayner, etc... - are being shown up.

pathetic from the Lions

and this hurts us. i was expecting to go past Essendon in the ladder after this round.

get your act together Lions ffs

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
