Amazing last quarter.

Turnovers disappeared and we simply bludgeoned the ball forward.

When you would expect JVR and Jeffo to cash in it was everyone else.

As a useful development game... 6.5/10. Would have got closer to 8 but for the never ending turnovers in the first three quarters.

Unfortunately Tholstrup was middling but I'll keep an eye on Culley over the next few weeks.

Might drop into Vic Park for next week's game.

stats:

if i was doing votes, based on the 3 and a bit quarters i watched, i'd go:

6: billings
5: campbell
4: jefferson
3: baldi
2: bonner
1: culley

and the rest of the mfc players who i thought played well were van rooyen, sestan, howes, tholstrup, and mentha

Sydney losing by 87 points and have 3 of the top 4 goal scorers on the park

Pretty sure that would have never happened before

Also they kicked 9 goals with only 3 scorers. never seen that either

Literally a trivial post

A bigger disappointment would be seeing him in the seniors. We need to move beyond those who can't finish.

Casey basking in the warm winter Sydney sun. Surrounded by Port Jackson Figs at the picturesque Tramways Oval . Which appears to be redolent of the ‘convict’ built style. With a considerable tonnage of gray Grollo concrete thrown in. Multiple freeways in the background.

Turf of course would be a mix of Kikuyu with a sprinkling of Buffalo [censored] and Couch grass thrown. Ball bounce was magnificent.

Thank you ball girls and boys. Smithy's commentators and the camera person. Kudos to the greenskeeper. The Sun really shone thru. Casey you were a revelation.

EL JEFFO CANTINA Another 5 goals after 5 last week, well well well.

A very strong game Mr Fence.

The next two weeks are very important for young Matt. Needs to continue showing a physical style of game. Casey really need a small forward to assist in his development

My guess is that JVR will be the first to get the call up.

Petty staying forward is the main cause of the log jam.

An 11 goal last quarter to the Casey Demons and a great win. It’s not hard to win against lowly teams but this was sublime.

depends on the role i would think

jvr gets much further up the ground (like petty, fritsch) as a leading chf whereas el jefe plays closer to goal (like melksham, aj / gawn when stationed forward)

can't remember jvr having a run in the ruck but he was credited with one hit out, and i would think if he was coming in it would be to replace johnson as that key target / occasional ruck relief role

I thought he was very good today in his work rate, clean hands and quality kicking. I am still unsure how he fits at AFL intensity but if he keeps presenting and making most of chances like he did today he could well develop an AFL career.

I'm enjoying the Camera work which at least is authentic 'Shaky Cam' vs the fake post production shaky cam (cinema verite) we often see.

Sun stars and flare were a highlight late in the game

Yep, back to back solid games with good intensity.

Times his leads super well.

That last quarter was what we should be doing more often.

That’s what happens when we don’t turn it over all the time. 11.2–0.2 last quarter, not bad.

How’s Culley’s disposal?

20 disposals 13 kicks 7 handballs at 80% efficiency add 6 marks 4 tackles 2 goals

At the moment JVR's best is definitely better than AJ and Jefferson. He has to fix whatever is holding him back quickly.

JVR is a riddle. When he goes for marks two handed he can clunk them .Why then does he consistently go for them one handed ,even at VFL level ?

He seems to be getting unbalanced before he goes for the ball. Sometimes it’s the opposition just pushing on one side. Verrall is also having the same problem.

They are both misjudging slightly and getting stuck under the ball too much. Could be as simple as playing less with their phones/screens?

Disposal efficiency surprised me there. Still don’t quite believe it. Looked more like a blunt force instrument rather than a scythe.

Didn't see the game but 8 marks for JVR is a very good sign. Hopefully he is building some confidence.

Would love to see more stats like this from Culley next few weeks.

Yes DS17 Jai Culley surprised me too.

Positive signs of cleaning up the field disposal and the goal kicking. Has some assets with his height and strength as you allude too. Marking, mobility and awareness are there.

The elusive wriggle gathering the ball in play and the foot pass to young Sruk inside the F50 was a highlight. Beginning to see how he got the Rising Star nod out West.

I just feel that if Laurie can’t prove his worth at AFL level it will be Culley who gets the next shot. I love his size, finals and big games love a big strong body and he has that. Going to be an interesting watch.

Has Cullen got any speed?

From what I have heard but not seen myself, that might be his issue. He seems to have all the other tools.

Not super quick but appears good by foot, I imagine he can break a tackle. Are Sparrow, Langford, Petracca and Oliver quick?
