It was so bad. The score at the bottom of the screen changes between the Chandler kick and when he comes to the bench. We’d kicked 2 more goals in between FFS!

He still could have been viewing that incident though, they weren't saying it as though he had been dragged for it just that he was shown the vision the next time he came to the bench.

As much as I dislike Brisbane, I cannot, and I make no apologies for this at all, I just cannot dislike a player who has a Clash song as his goal scoring choice… Darcy Gardiner, you absolutely Rock the Casbah!!

Agree but he could have chosen a better song from the Clash P

True.. Guns On the Roof, Tommy Gun, their version of Pressure Drop or even I Fought the Law, Charlie Don’t Surf, Somebody Got Murdered, their version of Police On My Back or Police and Thieves … I could go on, but I better not.

Massive win, any we smashed them in the final quarter (should've won by 3-4 more goals). I love the fact we finished with a flurry, I just wish we were more clinical.

Clarry played a shut down role but hit back the other way.

AJ competed hard.

Chin continues to have key moments that he's taking now.

That's a complete myth. Started off on Neale at bounces / ball ups as a reference then they went their separate ways.

Clayton was back to his best (in terms of his best form this year which is pretty good but still a fair way off his top end from 21 - 23) because he did not play a close checking role he was asked to play last week and which resulted in a decent gain to the Hawks / Newcombe on the day.

Most player ratings had Newcombe a fair way in front last week and Clarry just pipping Neale this week, even though it wasn't a head to head shut down this week like last week.

I'd prefer he went with this version of The Guns of Brisbane:

First 15 minutes of "on the couch" last night after tassie bs, explained a tactic, as well as why we need to hang on to Melksham after.

He's like having a coach on the ground. As well he is uncompromising and unpredictable.

I think this may be what happened. The goal was lovely, but Goodwin was still thinking about the very ordinary decision from earlier. (I think "body language" analysis is mostly [censored], but Goodwin dosn't look his usual encouraging self and Chandler looks chastened.)

If Goodwin is trying to change the way we deliver inside 50, that kind of slamming it on the boot would be infuriating at any time, and certainly in Round 10.

The previous night on channel 9, Hird was saying that he moved him from the wing down forward and Melky was a much better player now.

Sounded a bit like he was taking credit for Melky‘s growth as a player?

Among the many advancements of Western civilisation to which we owe JH? I await the book.

I mean I was going to say Guns of Brixton but they dont deserve to use a good song ha ha

I reckon Brisbane supporters are hoping Jake Melksham retires before next year.

The last 2 times he's played Brisbane, he's been the key reason behind our defeat of them.

In 2023 he kicked 2 of our 4 goals in the last quarter, including the winner with 30 seconds left. And obviously on the weekend, he was the dominant forward from start to finish.

Incidentally, we lost to Brisbane twice in 2024 in his absence. He may have been the difference in the 6 point loss at the GABBA.

On a side note meet Ryan in the cheer squad and just want to thank him for all his time and efforts he puts into the dees. Great bloke.

I definitely concur Ryan is absolutely a champion human being, always has a hug for you when you see him. He's seriously the most gracious person you could possibly get to know.

I’m pretty sure that I met him at the Shanghai game vs the Lions way back when (or would he have been too young?).

I'm going out on a limb here to admit that I was surprised to see both coaches assign BOG to Max. As much as I love Max, and I now place him as my second favourite demon in my lifetime, behind Robbie, I thought that his game on Sunday, from Q1 to Q3, was only average and not the high standards that we've come to love and respect.

Why I say this:

  • He wasn't quite clunking his marks in the first 3 quarters, unlike the last quarter when he marked everything.

    • I recall the commentators reporting that Melbourne was behind in the contested marks stat, which I put down to Max having an average game to that point and to Harry having a quiet game.

  • The Brisbane midfield were doing an annoying good job at sharking his hit outs.

  • In hindsight, I sensed a big momentum shift in the game around the middle of Q3, which may have coincided with Aiden having a run in the ruck.

I sense that running Aiden in the ruck in the middle of Q3 was a key pivot to the game. It's as though his intensity and grunt was one of the factors that knocked the Lions over. And on that point, it's great that we have an alternative ruck like Aiden who contrasts as sharply as Max.

Keen to hear other thoughts.

Max had 46 hitouts. AJ had 7.

I'm sure he will, but just not sure it'll be this season. We saw last year with Bowey what extended time out with an injury does, and Windsor missed that critical end of pre-season/start of season phase.

Maybe, Bowey missed 8 weeks with a shoulder but could still run I guess. Hard to know exactly what Windsor could or could not do training wise. It doesn't seem from my limited perspective that he has lost any pace or evasiveness more the skill that is possibly more under pressure playing in the backline. And where every mistake is amplified.

Ryan would have been in his mid to late 20s then. I daresay he would probably have been at that game.

Any word on Lindsay?

Yeah Ryan was there. He’d go to Mars to watch our beloved Dees. Ryan doesn’t look it, but he’Il be 43yo in July. He also doesn’t act it and he’s the first to admit it 😊). As @Katrina Dee Fan said, he’s the most gracious beautiful person you could ever hope to meet. Every week we see little kids watching him and trying to emulate him. It’s heartwarming.

So ya met Ryan huh? And while you were there talking to Ryan you didn’t think to widen your view a little, say, to the row in front of Ryan, almost directly in front of him? Clearly not, else you could’ve met another DA member, one who was running on three hours sleep and five Red Bulls, one who felt like setting her friggin flogger on fire coz her biceps were crying in pain.

Don’t be a stranger next time! 😊

I ran into this guy there as well as Max Walker… I think I have a photo of the three of us together… I’m pretty sure I have a photo of Ryan but it’s probably on one of my hard disk drives somewhere. If I can find it, I’ll post a copy here.

I will need to watch it again but he was thumping the ball forward again and again, which we needed when they were gaining ascendency. I thought he was pivotal and dominant, whereas AJ seemed to be 'halving the contest'. Gawn did get 15 contested possessions, the most from both sides. phenomenal from your ruckman.

one thing that isnt mentioned too much about gawn is he is an excellent driver in heavy traffic better than most midfielders once the contest spreads. He almost always picks the right option and executes when the fleas around him fly around in different directions.

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
