We're Not Dead Yet - The 2025 Season

Play the kids. Let’s see what kolt, Jeffo and Laurie can do with an extended run

STATS GEEKS.

ANY TEAMS THAT HAVE KICKED MORE POINTS THAN GOALS IN A SEASON?

OR

HOW MANY TIMES IN A SEASON THAT A TEAM KICKS MORE POINTS THAN GOALS?

Not even a yelp today.

Officially stake through the heart, season over.

No questions asked.

Yep 💯 let Jeffo have half a season at it and lets find out now if he's got it.

It was cute when people on here thought we'd be thr Hawthorn of this year.

While our streaks over North, St Kilda and Hawthorn have all now snapped. I would really like to somehow get a win over Adelaide whenever we play them. I vowed after the 1 point loss in 21 that we'd never lose to them again.

Adelaide score for fun and have good intercepting defenders. They will snap us in half offensively, and absorb every terrible kick to the hot spot from our three Premiership midfielders.

There is no world where Lever gets dropped. He's a liability, but Goody doesn't care.

I am half expecting some god to still believe in that.

The measure for me is this:

When it became apparent that there was more chance of Ozzy Osborne making it to the stage for the Black Sabbath farewell show on July 6 in Birmingham than MFC making finals, it was done-diddly-done.

McDonald was our best defender this season. Came out the minute a Goody favourite managed to get through a half of VFL footy without breaking a bone.

Well, that game simplifies things.

From here on, any niggle of significance and the player gets rested. Anyone not fit gets to take some time to do a mid-season pre-season, and spots in the 22 have to be skewed to commitment to the best methods even ahead of talent.

Of course, the trouble with that is it will result in more blowouts and excessive use of caps lock in footy forums.

We can only hope the club is mature enough to push through that and keep the focus on 2026.

Let's not waste these next 9 games with some fanciful illusion we'll sneak into the 8 or trying to chase wins that will amount to nothing.

This is now the time to prepare us for 2026. Play Jefferson and JvR up front. Put Petty down back

May + Melksham to Casey. Viney to a forward pocket.

Use this as an opportunity. I know Goodwin is a self-described "winner", but it's now about the big picture. If he's still chasing wins this season instead of formulating a game plan that will challenge in 2026, then he can go.

No

It was born of hope and I salute Adam for having that hope.

Let's keep it open to measure those green shoots for next year.

@Adam The God still likening us to Hawthorn of last year?

Funnily enough both us and the Hawks were on 7 wins after round 14 last year.

Crazy to think that despite the horror shows against Freo, WCE and the Pies last year, we were still better than what we are this year comparing a W/L record.

We were dead after round 5. Sure the wins against Freo & Brisbane were nice surprises, but the weight of evidence from the past 2 years strongly supports the view that we are a terrible football team.

Unfortunately with how poor our basic skills are (kicking, tackling, marking all need work) and the game plan of bombing it long into congested forward lines, there is no way we go 9-0 to finish the year on 14 wins, which, the way this season is tracking, will be the minimum needed to scrape into the 8.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
