Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position.

Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season.

Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further.

Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum.

The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack.

Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year.

The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder.

The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp.

Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

Unfortunately a Magpie win is in our interest assuming we win.

A few 50/50 games from our perspective in Ess v Sydney and Saints v Blues. The same could be said for suns v Dogs and the SA derby.

This weekend could shake up the ladder in several ways.

Need to remember that Essendon and the Suns have played one game less.

if Freo cannot beat the Pies tonight, then they are absolutely wasting a primed list.

As i have no vested interest in that team, it is clear that their tactics, particularly ball movement are just not right.

Hayden Young is a big loss for them, but i also rate Jordan Clark off HB, he is quick and makes good decisions.

The only one I'm tipping with any confidence is Brisbane. We will have to play our very best to knock off the club I hate the most, all the others are a toss of the coin.

This is freos best chance tonight. But even if they win people will say it's because Collingwood rested those players. But hoping freo win.

Hopefully sydney bring that same form they had to beat gws last week & knock off essendon.

Port & Adelaide will be interesting

Freo will win tonight. Pies have been up for weeks, are away and resting senior players

And Freo just have to win. Brayshaw won't have another poor game

I don't care about what is good for us finals wise, as it's round 9 and we just need to bank wins

73% against us seems a little too skewed towards Hawks. Id still have them favorites but those odds feel a little OTP.

tipping:

  • flagmantle?

  • aints?

  • them?

  • bloods

  • gc17?

  • crom?

  • tigs?

  • puddy tatts?

  • bears

there's some what would seem to be cracking games scheduled this week

a win would be huge for us, but we definitely need all those teams around us to lose too:

  • filth

  • either / or

  • us

  • either / or

  • either / or

  • crom

  • tigs

  • either / or

  • bears

My tip about the freo pies game - freo wil look a completely different team to the one last week that looked like they had led in their boots such was their appalling defensive running

Why? They are set for this game, and will have planned their program accordingly months ago. Part of that planning is a calculated gamble of a performance like last week.

And of course pies are coming off a five day break.

Another tip.

In the wash up analysis this won't be mentioned at all. It will all be freo came to play, mouthguards at training did the trick, look how much better their defensive spread and running was compared to last week, blah, blah, blah.

All symptoms, no diagnosis.

Final tip - the 2.15 for freo is overs as is even money for more than 163 tmp. Don't mind the 8.50 for fro mote than 39 either.

Josh Tracey . Pick 7 rookie draft. What a gem.

Really should have worked him into the Jackson trade a couple years ago. Perhaps we tried and were rebuffed. Think@Redleg was calling for it at the time.

He’s a vic boy.. maybe wants to come home?

Hopefully we are secretly offering a huge sum of money at him. Esp if Pickett wants to leave.

Last 5 minutes, Freo doing everything possible to lose the game. Some horrific turnovers leading to absolute freebie goals to the Pies.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.

The final game of the 2025 Season is finally upon us and the Demons may have an opportunity to spoil the Magpies Top 4 aspirations when they face them on Friday Night. Who comes in and who goes out?
