I'd be focusing on getting my arms out in front and taking simple grabs when I do the hard work to get into position.

JVR needs a lot of work on his forward craft.

Not sure Chaplin has helped him so far.

Ben Brown,6'6.leads to the ball carrier and marks it out front.JVR can't even take a chest mark

Yes. Doesn't stop the nuff responses though.

So Petty takes Treacy, but who plays on Amiss? Are we expecting Adams to be a late in? Or Turner to play back, leaving Fullarton on MFC debut to lead our forward line with no JVR or Fritsch to help?

Still don’t know why Chaplin is our forward line coach. Was working wonders in the backline and is now making a average forward look like an Auskick side

I'm not sure he's assisted by the current game plan which doesn't seem to contemplate having an actual forward line.

Contest and defense only accounts for 2/3rds of the ground.

No backline and no forward line gulp…go Dees

And the midfield is firing on all cylinders. Gee wilickers what's not to like 😉

No May , no Lever and still no McVee.

A hammer blow for Dees fans and a get-out-of-jail card for Goodwin.

If our midfield doesn't step up big-time the scoreboard could get very ugly.

Surely we have someone better than Howes? Absolute panic merchant with the ball.

Blake Howes??? YIKES😬

You'd think this would have been a perfect opportunity for someone like Jed Adams.

But no, crazy Goody strikes again.

Yes and before anyone tries the "have to pick from emergency list" May was a known risk last week so they should've had Adams as an emergency in case he didn't get up.

Seriously Blake Howes for May? Are they kidding?? I'm sure he's a great bloke but that's just a ridiculous emergency list especially considering we knew May was a "maybe". Why on earth wasn't Adams on that list...we know Howes doesn't really do much good at top level yet, let's see how Adams goes at least. Crazy decision this!

This makes me so mad, Adams should be in for May my god I'm angry.

And ironically they added Adams to the emergency list after May pulled up.

Simply bizarre from Goody and the coaching staff.

My guess is they were happy May was over his PF. The groin injury likely took them by surprise.

I feel sorry for Fullarton. Thankfully he has got his deserved opportunity, but it's against a top backline. Pearce, Cox, Ryan (?) are seriously good players, so the chances of him (Fullarton) doing much in his first Demons hitout are not good.

He should have been selected against Essendon, which would have potentially given him an easier/more realistic assignment.

His performance should be assessed in this light. And, subject to showing at least something, he shouldn't be dropped after just one match.

Good luck young fella.

I really get the feeling that Fullarton is being thrown to the dogs - setting him up for failure by pairing him with a returning maybe big forward (Turner) and not keeping one of the regular albeit underperforming forwards (JVR, Frittata) to provide some balance / experience. I realise that 2 and / or 31 should have been dropped a week or two back, but the timing and balance is not quite right to me.

Now that Adam’s has been added to the emergency list, could we now make a ‘late change’ and bring Adams in for Howes? Sort of thing Chris Scott would do.

Blake Howes replacing Steven May.

Would rather play Blake Howes as a wingman or forward....he is certainly not a defender.

.... and Howes not a KPP defender any time.

What are they thinking? Or, what, are they thinking?

You're assuming they think.

Agreed.

Blake Howes is a wingman or a half forward.

It's a failed experiment.

I would rather be giving Jed Adams a chance, at least he's a key defender.

T Mac Petty and Howes as key backs

A small sample size for comparison purposes for sure but Player Rating / Stats back that up. Coming off a very poor base but a big up tick. Hopefully he's turned the corner and on the up...

Because we need him to be great again. For the team, for himself, for us supporters.

We all love nothing more than seeing this man star, because of his known capabilities. But he’s lowered his colours his past 15 games or so. But there’s been definite signs of life the past couple.

& it definitely wasn’t the time to rock the baby (respectfully) - maybe that was the icing on the cake that finally swayed the coaches to drop him.

selfishness.

And how many times have we said this after team selection.

Rinse and repeat and I have had a gut full.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
