Another cooked last qtr. I wonder how long they're going to persist with most idiotic training schedule of Main training, then Captain's run the next day and then game day without a break in between.

God only knows why they haven't reverted to how it used to be before this season.

With soccer balls

One of our BIGGEST issues, that no one is even addressing is our missed tackles. Its so insanely dumb what we do.

We go to tackle, and we always tackle at the hips. Never try and grab one arm. Bowie did it correct, that's the only time I saw it (which lead to a goal)

The opponent just easily handballs it off. We render ourselves useless by even trying to tackle..We do this rinse and repeat, out of every stoppage and the opposition just walks it out every time, whilst our players are on the ground looking up and doing nothing.

Shouldn't Tracca, Oliver and Sparrow been in their prime?

Again no forward line means for five games in a row we can't kick more than 12 goals.

And our backline seems to have followed our midfield and imploded making it even worse.

Well at least Fritta kicked two...and improvement for him and Kozzie did the same but that only makes four.

We have had to wheel out Melksham whose purple patch in late 23 was just that. Was great to see but he's well passed it. Prior to that purple patch he was always hot and cold.

And along side him we have Jvr who i just don't know what's happened to the poor bloke.

Disco and Petty fwd are not the answer either.

So we are done.

But sadly the fwd line issue was raised three years ago . That's how slow this club is to fix things.

Scrap that because it still ain't fixed.

I don't believe that the boys are playing with pride.

Well some of them are. But way too many seem to be just turning up.

And maybe if it was me, at times I'd be tempted to do the same . It's just a job. I get paid either way.

But why are we watching then,? Why pay memberships? Why go to games?

And a huge thank you to those of you still going.

It's a twelve hour drive one way for me, so I don't get to many.

I know you have to support in the bad times too and take the good times with the bad but do we really have to take this?

But it has to go both ways. And I'm convinced this isn't our best. That's all. Just leave it all out there and if we lose, so be it. But this isn't the best of quite a few. Surely.

I'm sure there are at least half a dozen out there who could have played harder and better than they did.

As for Goody, it's far better to leave now than get sacked or retire at ten and zero.

You will always have a cup and we are grateful but things are getting worse.

Hopefully he can stem these losses but I can't see it happening.

And it may not change much given the attitude/ performances of some of the players but at least allow him to save some face and like most clubs we get one win after a coach change.

One thing to win just one flag with the list we had. And it was a great list. We could have had three cups.

But this is something shocking to go from just missing out in 23( mostly due to losing Gus) to this.

There must be something going on we are not privy too. Surely?

‘They’re broken’: Glaring Demons ‘flaw’ exposed as fresh details over Petracca saga emerge

Heartbreaking scene😭

At the 37sec mark of the video at the top of that article Jones is talking to Gawn.

I won't try and interpret the body language.

Whatever Jones is selling Max and co sure aren't buying.

I watched the match (or at least part of it) at the Sporting Globe. It used to be a stronghold of Demons supporters watching interstate matches. Sadly we were outnumbered by Essendon supporters. They were so disgusting!!

I left at half time. Couldn't stand it (or them) any more.

My thirdborn is coming down to Melbourne (from Sydney) for Easter. She asked whether I wanted to go to the Freo match. "Sure" I said ... what could possibly go wrong?

We tried that last year. Bartel chose Caulfield Grammar instead...

Apparently still trying… not sure whether it will happen though

At some point the media, supporters, and coaching staff will come to accept the fact as much as this is about Goodwins's failing as a coach its as much about the failures of the players.

You are asking Test cricketers to play 20/20 and frankly, they are just not good enough. I see a team attenpting to play fast, corridor football but they continually turn the ball over and are lost on defence accordingly.

Have to start again.

I always believed it was a big mistake hiring Jones as midfield coach. If he has any coaching ability he should have learned his coaching chops elsewhere.

The weird thing thing is that our cellar-dweller companions, the mighty, cashed up WCE are also completely useless, ATM. At least there is the consolation of Everton's overnight triumph against 3rd placed Nottingham Forest. So if facilities, membership numbers, and $$$ isn't the be all and end all why can't we just let go of our premiership entitlement syndrome, and just start again.

It's very simple stuff that's not happening.

2 goals in a first half. I've said it before on here but back in my amateur Gaelic Football days (where it's hard to score in the small goal with a keeper), that would be embarrassingly low. It was so painful to watch the first half and last quarter.

Who will lead towards a ball carrier?

Who will kick it to their advantage? We got goals when we lowered our eyes or when we turned inside.

Why defend grass and let them accumulate their highest ever number of disposals?

Why tackle low and let them handpass? Or throw out a weak outstretched arm they can just run through?

Why let them run out the clock?

Where was the pride in letting them score 5:1 goals in the last quarter?

He said that?

Yep. I think Goodwin has improved his press conferences (from an admittedly low starting point) And as I've said before, I admire him for never resorting to aggression towards journalists when things are tough. But this was a shocker: a series of platitudes ("we weren't at the level") followed by what amounted to a promise the team almost certainly won't fulfil.

We'll still win the premiership this year for the best alternative strip

That award goes to GWS. Their charcoal strip is fantastic.

But we did win an award. The award for the most listless and dispirited team I've seen in a decade goes to the MFC.

Goodwin, as we all know is finished, so I'm kind of excited to get the clean air we all need. Not least the players. And that's not to let them off the hook. If a quality player or two, needs to go for the betterment of the group then so be it.

I'm now not averse to greatly improving our draft hand and resetting the course.

The problem was assistants arent dumb, they know when a ship is sinking. Any assistant with options was never coming here, we were down to Goodwin's mates and thats exactly what we got in Bassett and Jones. Ill never blame the assistants as they are pretty much servants to the coach. This is all Goodwin's and the boards cluster f

The scene of Chandler and Gawn is actually sad to see.

Chandler looks completely shattered and Gawn just looks like a guy carrying the whole world on his shoulders.

Change is needed and that starts with the coach first and foremost.

And the worst thing - one of the worst things, anyway - is the smugness of the so-called experts sitting back, grinning and saying 'We tipped this, the Dees' plunge down the ladder!'

Why would anyone care about that? What about the smugness and arrogance of a large majority of our supporters on here who thought a dynasty was a given?

Our demise has been through our own doing, and isn't based on the 5 losses this year. The decline started in 2022 with our list management. People on here mentioning the departures of ANB and Gus as being pivotal to our decline are delusional. Things have been rotten for some time.

I couldn't care less what people outside the club are saying. It's what people within the club do about it that's important. If they sit on their hands, I can see us being a bottom 4 club for many a year. The talent is there, but whether they stay is highly unlikely.

As I and many others on here have said he should have been cleared 2 years ago

Many on here defended him when his performances didnt warrant it

So here we are with wasted 2 years and a damaged and under developed list doing what should have been done

The people who run this club are a joke

After finishing in the top 4 and making a semi? Name a single club that would have done that and succeeded?

Essendon get the 4 points and most likely a top 2 draft pick from Melbourne.

Time to take the shackles off and let the boys play, one on one accountability, stop giving an out number up forward, we cant hit targets. We are trying to play a style our team doesn't have the skill to execute

A lot of us could see exactly this coming two years ago after two straight sets finals exits. Im not sure we should have sacked Goodwin, however, we sure as [censored] shouldn't have extended him before another straight sets exit.

I am starting to think maybe getting the Grand Final Guarantee was a mistake this year.

Make war not love.

We need to play the players in their best positions. Viney, Sparrow and Oliver, rest on the bench, not as half-forwards.

Goody has a history of sequencing wins. Cannot drop too many more games.

We are finding it hard to stay in games, had only small periods with the momentum.

Do less role playing and more natural footy. Our confusion, as the game plan is not executed or the wrong system chosen, or a crucial mistake, causes us to scramble and lose structure. We “cannot buy in” if unsure about the structure, especially with the many new faces.

Our transition game is rattled by the speed of opposition's movement.

McVee and Lever back in, drop Sharp, have Petty forward, drop JVR (to work with Turner in the VFL).

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.
