if we did accept the crows picks which are both not going to be very good I think it would be virtually confirmation of off field concerns with trac to our culture.

We have no incentive to trade him unless he’s being toxic and causing issues or we get an amazing deal, if we get a couple of early second round picks essentially that would tell me we just want him gone.

I don’t think one player makes or breaks a footy club and we shouldn’t be worried about if trac goes but it’d be a horrid outcome if we lose trac for average picks and miss out on Flanders as well

Think what is most disappointing is that after all of this it’s very clear the modest ‘hide my Norm Smith medal because it’s not about individual awards’ Petracca was an aberration and what we’ve seen over the past two years is his actual character.

To be so openly selfish….he’s gotta go

What’s occurred since the 21 flag within the playing group which is well documented, the failure by the footy dept to nip this in butt ,the off field issues with presidents, CEOs and the admission by Goodwin it was right to sack him and they failed to define what their purpose was after the flag is such a sad train wreck when you compare what the lions have achieved!

The request from Adelaide was always ‘2 first rounders’ for a bloke in a position that was in vogue. In fact, their negotiations jumped around drafts, eventually landing on a first in one draft and then another first in a separate draft after they rejected a first and a second in the 2018 draft (which was considered one of the better drafts of the last couple of decades).

Adelaide ended up trading us a few later upgrades just so they could secure their arbitrary ‘2 first rounders’.

Discussion this morning on SEN made me realise we are somewhat fortunate Trac’s new manager doesn’t manage a stable of players, removes one potential element for the club getting screwed ie we have no need to keep Trac’s manager sweet

I reckon the reality is ( classicly ) between posits. I have no doubts he has his own standards. Not an argument. I'm sure he'd like some certain others to play more like himself.

In the old vernacular one described such ppl as having tickets on selves and in a way, not necessarily a bad way, he does to a degree. Where in my view he comes a little unstuck is is all well and good to exude standards but dont get sookilala if others fail to impress if you're not living up to them either.

I do like that he really wants to win, not just play well. Can use truckloads of this. There is a time for hubris but there's a place for humility. I never really paid attention to it in the past but I've a suspicion its more about Tracc winning or losing than Dees winning or losing. That subtle difference is what the Lions had in spades on Saturday.

Im not being simply revisionary but I get the sense whilst some players are all in ... Christian has been as in , only so much as he's wanted to be. I can only suppose we all attack our investments differently.

He'll move on, we'll move on. Am sure he'll be fine... 'in his job'

Some have noted the quite realistic possibility of outcome being recompense at a level less than many might 'demand'. I see it possibly a little different. The market is fluid. Not only fluid but tidal. Like all markets eventual values are determined by consensus. Whatever works works.

What is the most important thing for Melbourne?... and we go from there.

Agree.

If Tracc wants to leave that is 100% on the club.

The players bear no responsibility for the culture of the club. They are passive observers.

Yes, especially after hearing their players after the game and then Fagan, for a bunch of kids they are way more mature than our so called leaders.

Melbourne superstar flies in to meet with AFL rival

Melbourne’s Norm Smith Medal-winning midfielder Christian Petracca has touched down in Adelaide as he continues to pursue a move away from the Demons.

It's news.co.m.au so who knows.

🎪🤡🎪 Day 2

With apologies to The Coasters from their 1956 song "Yackety Yak":

"Clear out your locker and your trash

If you want your spending cash

You'd better clean that kitchen floor

You ain't gonna cook for us no more

Yackety Trac - don't come back."

My definition of culture is what you do when no one is looking. If you think the players are not responsible for this, then you are delusional.

Was just listening to SEN.

they had on a Adelaide board member or similar. He mentioned that they would probably have to give up a key forward for Trac.

Lyon asked for Thilthorpe which both laughed and shot down.

So maybe a key position forward coming our way after all.

The key forward Adelaide will give up:

Look I'm not here to argue that our club hasn't had multiple challenges or poorly handled issues since 2021, and I am certainly not here to take away from Trac's trauma or the severity of his injury.

But lets be for real, we are one of a small handful of clubs to have won a flag this past decade. Not only that, we are one of only two 'small' clubs to have won one, without the benefits of academy picks, bottomless salary caps, home ground advantages, the love and support of the AFL with fixturing or the MRO etc etc.

There are star players at other clubs who would give up their spleen to win one. Merrett, Cripps, the list goes on. Trac has not only achieved team success, he also achieved individual success with the support of the club.

He is also not the first player to deal with serious injuries, or worse terrible off field issues relating to mental health, the loss of a child, a terminally ill parent or partner, cancer, the list goes on.

At the end of the day, if you are a real leader, you stick it out through bad times and good. If you have no extenuating family circumstances, and you are still choosing to jump ship when the going gets tough, then it says as much about you as the club you are departing. See also Merrett, except Merrett hasn't won a flag.

The reason why we all raised an eyebrow when Trac made the comment about this being 'his job', is because we all understand that being an AFL player, let alone a star player, is not a regular job that the average joe has.

Not only has Trac achieved the ultimate success, he was also able to set up his brand, and his and his wife's future beyond footy while wearing red and blue. I don't think we have done so badly by him, and in fact many of the changes that have taken place in the last 12 months were things he expressed he wanted to see happen.

So let's not pretend like Trac wanting out for the second year in a row, is all about the club, and not in fact, mostly about him.

Realistic options?

Rachele is probably the most realistic, if we can convince him to come

Victorian boy, was in and out of the side this year, and is more surplus to Adelaide's need than a bull inside mid like Trac is.

Rachele plus a F1* and Adelaide takes Trac's entire salary.

*Even pick 18 next year, is better than pick 14 this year.
