@Ghostwriter prime example here of media talking on Petraccas behalf.

This is where it would be great if he came out and denied these fabrications.

You really think they (the media) would back off??? Of course they wouldn’t. It wouldn’t matter what he says publicly there’s a wealth of fabrications they can trot out. That’s a well that’s never dry.

Well at least this gc rumour has more logic to it than the crows one just purely based on what they have to offer in return. If the offer was Sam Flanders and pick 6 then we have something to discuss

More logic from a trade perspective, yes, but I’m not sure the fit in the GC side is as logical as it is with Adelaide or Hawthorn.

We won’t get Flanders + 6 is my hot tip

The silence is deafening when it comes to Petracca he done the same thing last year and it done him no favors. I don't know why does it it's stupid. Just come out and say are you staying or going. Oliver came out and said he's staying heard nothing since. Petracca has bad management it damaged him last year and it could damage him this year.

If you are saying it's too much you have rocks in your head. Flanders is an average player pick 6 is an average pick. 2 average players for Trac get real. We should want more. Throw in Read or Walter. Humphrey would be a stretch he's a star.

I suspect it's because Melbourne's list management is actually open to the right trade. It's all in a holding pattern anyway until King comes on board.

Ridley has said he's going nowhere. That's all Trac has to do and it stops. Why he wants it to go on and on is beyond me.

This is after winning the B+F in 2020, his first year as a full time mid:

Adapting to a new role this season, Petracca dominated the Demons’ midfield, recording the second-most contested possessions in the competition (216) and averaging 23.5 disposals a game.

He also managed 108 score involvements and 15 goals of his own – proof that he can be just as damaging all around the ground.

“I think the coaching group have allowed me to play to my talents and play to my strengths,” Petracca said.

“I feel like as a midfielder, I’m good around the contest, but when that’s not going well, I feel like I can go down forward and play a vital role as a forward as well.

I agree our forwards lack of system is a wider problem but it’s hard to change that system with players who naturally don’t lead at the ball. Melk and Fritsch have shown there’s room for leading players at Melbourne

IIRC, Petracca played as a high-half forward for the duration of the 2019 season

And there were strong rumours that he wanted to go back to playing predominantly as a mid (and got his wish?)

Interesting that he played as a high-half forward at various times this season (as well as in the midfield)

His average disposals per game (rounded up or down)

  • 2018 - 20

  • 2019 - 19

  • 2020 - 24

  • 2021 - 29

  • 2022 - 28

  • 2023 - 28

  • 2024 - 23

  • 2025 - 25

None of the above pertains to Trac possibly wanting to move

My view is that he likes being in the limelight and any publicity is good publicity (pertaining to his social media presence & 'Brand')

By not hosing things down, he remains near the centre of the conversation (and he's not alone in those stakes)

But hey, he can make as much money as he likes, so go for it

The only avenue I see to a move, is if Gold Coast want to pay overs. But I don't believe he wants to go anyway

Unlike last year, not only has Trac not dispelled the rumours, the club has not come out and said anything either.

Yes Guerra and King said he’s a star player, and in our best 25, but that’s neither here nor there.

Last year we were categorically saying Trac is going nowhere.

I think it’s time to get your head out of the sand, and realise that Trac being elsewhere next year is a very big possibility. And if you didn’t see this coming after last year, then I appreciate your optimism and faith.

Petracca is a top player and contracted for the next 4 years (on big money)

We'll be requiring a massive offer otherwise he has to do the pro thing and stay

The club holds the upper hand and won't be accepting chump-change, as he's been a huge investment for us

Hold firm and don't lose out on any deal (if forthcoming)

If another club is willing to take up his contract, it stands to reason that they should then have to pay a heavy price to acquire him

He's not a free agent, he is our property (so to speak)

Flanders plus???

GC need picks and list spots for Academy picks so they will not want to lose picks.

Maybe the plus is a very quick 24 year old Rosas??? or a future together with Flanders. Depends on what our list managers want - pace is preferred?

Its been said many times any Tracc movement will be without 'fanfare'. If it happens it will just be done quietly without the ' last minute ho ha' on the last day.

We are in transition.

This is it. We are prepared to let him go for the right price but are adamant about the price. Petracca saying he will stay would be as hollow as us saying we will keep him no matter what.

Just get over it people. You look like sheep walking on their hind legs

The media can be damned, from my part.

I do think he would give us the supporters some reassurance and peace of mind if it came from him, we don't trust those media vultures anyway.

Given gc can’t use pick 6 given there academy bids come before then from there pov it would just be trac for Flanders with is a no brainer for them

This is why having Adelaide involved makes sense.

GC gets points from picks to be used for NGA bids

Adelaide gets Trac and gives picks

MFC get Flanders and picks and loses Trac.

It’s arguably a win -win- win. Everyone gets what they want.

It's not win win win. It's not a win for us what picks are we going to get from Adelaide? They have none? When has Flanders become a star like Trac? I fear we could win the spoon the way the Trac trade is going.

I don't agree with that. Aside from our overall trajectory/talent level no longer lining up with his timeline I think the balance of our midfield is a key reason why Tracc would like to move and why the club would consider it.

The best sides have at most 2 predominantly inside players and usually one of them is defensively oriented. Neale (attack) and Dunkley (defence) for Brisbane. Danger and Atkins for Geelong. Newcombe and Nash at Hawthorn once Worpel gets offloaded soon. DeGoey and Ned Long at Collingwood.

Then it's runners. McCluggage, Will Ashcroft, Z Bailey, B Smith, Holmes, Ward, Day (maybe Merrett), Daicos x 2.

Viney can play the Atkins defensive role. But Oliver is untradeable in any realistic deal and can't play anywhere else. If things go to plan we'll also see Langford taking over as the fulcrum of our midfield sooner than later too.

To avoid being top heavy in the midfield Tracc has to play forward. Whilst we clearly aren't stacked with forwards Tracc's limitations as a forward - shoddy inside 50 kicking, awful goal kicking, poor defensive pressure make him expendable if the price is right.

We'll find out soon enough

I've got my money on him staying unless we are offered a super deal

And I'm not sure the club has factored in filling the huge hole in the cap next season if Trac does go elsewhere ($1.3Million or thereabouts) ... and that's leaving aside the the other $800k that May is owed (or not owed if he goes)

The other factor is the new coach and any conversations that King might have had with Petracca (along the lines of required player)

The speculation will continue but to me it's just that, speculation

If we start seeing a decent offer on the table, then that's when things can get interesting

A fire sale doesn't improve the list. In fact, the opposite would we true if that happened (fire sale)

I suspect it will be a fair deal that leaves a lot of us disappointed but is clearly more than a firesale.

I'd also suggest that we pay a chunk of Tracc's wage for the year to improve the draft compensation. And likely pick up the tab on a chunk of May's deal too. Anything left over should go to frontloading Gawn, Viney, Oliver, Lever and getting our cap in great order so we can make a move to bring in some quality ourselves.

Upon reflection, Petracca had a much better season than many might have thought

And I've a strong feeling that he can get back to his best. He definitely showed some signs throughout the season ... the missing factor is his confidence, but that can return

So in my view, we need a lot back in a trade or he stays. Others will think differently if they believe he is past his best

Thus, the different opinions on his form looking ahead

Where do you stand on his future footy?

Worst case scenario is we get not much in return and he stars elsewhere

I'd make him stay unless we get a top offer

2 first rounders with 1 in the top 6 picks plus, the new club pays all his salary

Or he stays and honours his contract

*Frontloading a few players monies in next year's salary cap makes sense

Edited by Macca

Well at least the speculation on Oliver looks like it's over

Oliver committing to the club coupled with no realistic offer from any other club ends the talk

Contracts are binding in these sorts of scenarios. If a realistic trade isn't forthcoming, contracts have to be honoured

For that reason, I can see May suiting up again for the Demons. Which club is going to give a 34yo $800k for one season?

We finished 14th with Trac, finishing last is no worse, if we are gunna rebuild now is the time, not in 2/3 years

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.
