Is much as I appreciate the premiership, the 2025 version of Clarry is behind Harmes and it appears he has struggled with the game plan.

Petracca would probably leave in a heart beat for mine.

Almost get the feeling this year that love is the opposite of the reality - that players don't get along or don't rate peers.

When that is happening it really is refresh time but we don't want to peel too far back.

Fritsch for mine would be just silly.

While I tend to agree and don’t think we should trade anyone for significant unders, there’s an element of “addition by subtraction” when it comes to Oliver

Oliver’s current output is reflective of the core issues with our list - too slow, too inside and lacking football smarts

He’s not the only player who has these traits, but he’s certainly the highest paid and can only play as an inside midfielder

If he can’t become a near A grade midfielder again, he will be a liability to our team and we won’t be able to transition fully to a modern midfield/gameplan (presuming we don’t surround him with complimentary types, which we don’t currently have)

I guess it’s a question of would you rather Oliver on his current salary at a B or C grade level, or say freeing up his salary, having Rivers move the midfield at a B or C grade level and having more cap space to fix needs in other parts of the ground?

I love Oliver but we risk being stuck in the mud if he (or at least another member of our big three midfielders) aren’t moved on

They said all that about anb

And he proved them wrong

What a loss to the dees

Trac & Lever are the only ones that make sense to potentially trade:

Trac - highest value asset, but a big loss - someone like Hawks I could see jumping at the chance. They're a good mid short.

Lever - holds solid value while also being surplus to needs - teams like Norf who need decent KPP's and on field leadership would be keen. The Dogs would be in the mix too.

Not enough trade value in Clarry given the contract, nor in May given his age

Don't think cap space is reason enough to trade Clarry, won't be attracting any big names in the short term, and we'll have some retirements over the next couple of years

i'd keep Lever. He appears to have leadership capabilities which is a glaring deficiency on our list

The playing capabilities are severely lacking though!

and he's injury prone

but if we go down the major overhaul road then we need some senior players to guide the youngsters

plus i don;t think we get much for Lever trade wise.

Gawn. Legend

Viney. Keep

Petracca. Keep

In my opinion, our best three players versus the Saints.

Fritsch also in our best. Keep

Oliver tried his guts out. Keep

WHO TO TRADE OUT?

Sparrow did zero and surely Yze will take him

Spargo is pathetic every week and will be best traded to the Giants for Derksen

Salem has lost pace and impact , and again will find a new home probably at the Power or Lions

Laurie has not been given a chance and will have a few clubs interested

Tom Morris reporting Lever is being discussed at Norf. I hope he has this correct and Norf are silly enough to take him.

Maybe they’ll offer a future first for him 🤣

FWIW I’d do it if we can get a good deal for him

Lever has been great for us but he just can’t stay on the park and I’m not convinced he can still be an elite defender in 2026 (lacks pace, poor one and one and doesn’t make good decisions with ball in hand)

Norf have their own 2nd rounder & Richmond's. We'd obviously be able to get one for Lever...could we get both?

Based on North’s list management over the last few years I’d say yes 🤣

Make Clarry Captain.

Sounds ridiculous. Well yes but...

This would be the making of him as a footballer and a person. He craves respect and this will give him respect. He will put everything into his health and fitness.

There are other bad boy Captains in the league, Toby Greene and Tex Walker (was).

Clarry is well liked in the club and I think they will rally around him.

Not putting Max down but clearly the connection with the coach is now more damaging than positive with the softness that has enveloped the playing group.

3 or 4 times best and fairest and one of the most loved Demons of all time. I'd love to see him given the Captaincy.

I'd let Clarry go. Think it's best for him to get a fresh start plus I don't feel it's best for the team to have him around. I don't care if we pay half his wages elsewhere.

Trac, if he asks again then he can go. No point having anyone who doesn't really want to be there stay.

I'd let Viney go.

The rest depends on what we get in return.

I'd trafe

No.

WOW pick a name, trade em out

not only reduce salary pack to allow you to pick up an other uncertainty

BUT

Improve your opposition

I have no real idea of whats going on but refuse to give these journalists looking to create headlines any space at all

The club should come out and say We value and respect all our players, we have contracts we will honour.

If a player comes to us like Jackson Hogan ANB we will respect them and force them to convince us why they want to leave.

WE do not want to increase our opposition performance at the cost of our own. We have and will continue to invest in our players to return to our best.

Continue discussion and if a player does not meet our needs we then discuss the best return for the club and the player.

I'm glad no one in this thread is involved in decision making at the club

Interesting that TM’s potential trade list has 19 players from struggling clubs and only 7 from clubs in the 8 including 3 from the Suns. A snapshot to where the game is going.

No doubt not a single player from Pies, Cats or Hawks that they want to keep. These clubs don't need recruiters as the media do it for them.

Who would have thought that two of our biggest

Petracca and Oliver would have to take significant pay cuts for other clubs to entertain their services. I hope at least one of them does. Viney as well.

So you're pretty much keeping the same band that has gotten us to this absolute mess that we are in now?

Oliver needs to go. He was woeful against the Saints and his last 2 minutes in the last quarter summed him up best. He loses all composure when thr going gets tough in high pressure game.

The resigning of Viney was one of the biggest botched list management I've seen in a long time. Is happily let him go if we could but unfortunately we're stuck with him.

Fritsch can stay but where the hell was he after quarter time?

At least Viney, Trac and Clarry contributed and lead the team charge to 46 up. No excuse for the [censored] up in the last quarter though. It was a cluster [censored]. But it’s not these guys alone that were the reason and plenty of others have dropped off completely on the weekend and in the season.

Sparrow? Petty? Salem ? Tmcd? All were poor. Spargo also gives us nothing ! It’s our next core that have also fallen a long way.

Agree Viney contract extension length was too long. But he’s tackling and contested footy was better than anyone by a mile on the weekend.

@dazzledavey36 who is your proposed “outs” at year end ?? - and for trading out guys like Trac and Clarry, and others, where to and for what???

Viney like the 2023 semi final loss to Carlton completely lost his way in the dying moments. When the guy is up for grabs under immense pressure, both Viney and Oliver fail to meet their end of the bargain. They crumble under pressure and Viney is an absolute liability when it comes to close games. Oliver as well.

If i had an option between trading out one of Petracca or Oliver, then its Oliver for me.

We would be silly not to look at trading Lever as well.

Spargo will assess his options at years end.

Lucky to get anything for Salem.

TOO LATE.

We’ve doubled down on all of them, Goodwin too. Trac and Oliver were champions and need to get back to their best.

The young need Trac and Oliver to learn from. We’ve made this mistake before.

Can’t sell our best players at their lowest value. Forget it.

Too late, these two dominoes are set to fall! As for Spargo, what can we give to a club to take him of our hands, ? Viney can go as well, trade him of to the NRL!

Edited by picket fence

Biggest problem for me...especially since we have lost so many games by slender margins...is that we have too many guaranteed non contributors. (Beginning with Sparrow)And you only need 2 or 3 of those. We regularly have 3 or 4. I don't include Oliver etc in that, despite his decline in output. (And yes, he is panicky. Can someone be trying too hard?)

I also don't think we're likely to attract a top coach if we have a clean out of top end talent. So we need to be careful.

In what universe is Spargo heading to the Giants? No connection to Sydney and the antithesis of a GWS player.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
