New coach prospects

Featured Replies

I've always struggled with the idea that Goodwin actually isn't very bright. Probably unfair. And ultimately you have to blame the players for today's fiasco.

But really...I saw that little video Goodwin had up on the MFC web site during the week. Having a nice red while boiling  a pot of water for a spag bol and mouthing comforting inanities about the team. (Sweeping shot of the cosy kitchen included.) And it filled me with total despair. FFS! Can we get a serious coach please, and not a lifestyle/pissweak new age [censored]?

The censored word begins with w and ends with r. Next week's episode will see him by the fire (with another large red) reading from 'Alice in Wonderland'. Large Print Edition.

If it is experience that we want then Longmire is the only option.

No to Simpson, no to Hinkley.

Goodwin has till the end of the year to turn this round but if I was looking I’d be going after someone from the cats or hawks we need someone with there finger on the pulse of the modern game.

It would be the Melbourne thing to do to hire Hinkley.

It's more than Goodwin - it's the whole coaching team. Not sure exactly how or what or who - but the set ups were wrong, the lack of spread, the decision making especially going into f50 , the disposal skills. Its broken

A few on here wanted Ross Lyon a while back

should we enquire?

Just replying to show appreciation for a calm opinion.

I do wonder if there's some quiet, unappreciated genius out there somewhere where a club isn't performing. The Paul Roos scenario?

Anyone from the Giants. Bring back Craig Jennings. 🥰

Need the players enjoying themselves again, they have been working in a job they hate for the past 3 years where their flair has been killed by a coach who is too scared to give up a score.

Thanks for the memories Demonland but after reading the dribble in this topic, I’m officially out.

Bit left field but I think Nathan Buckley is worth a look.

It’s also the players. The way they simply hoisted the white flag in the second half was inexcusable.

All this talk during the off-season about caring for one-another. Here’s an idea, how about holding each other to account? After today’s performance, many need to be asked the question of if their heart is truly in it. The way they performed today indicates that they’re not willing to put in the effort required when the going gets tough.

Im not expecting us to win every game, but I want to at least see effort and desire. Saw none of it today from either the playing group as a whole, or from the coaches box.

Sure, our midfield needs all the help it can get.

Who do think the AFL has earmarked for the Tassie gig, Bucks or Horse?

Wow, watched the game then cooked dinner. This escalated quickly!!!

It's sounds like there was a reason why Gawn was so bad today - probably something personal rather than physical. Then again if you're in the camp that wants to dump a coach that broke a huge drought 3.5 years ago and had us well-primed for another 1.5 years ago because of one game (and maybe a season destroyed by injuries) you won't even listen.

Do you seriously think that people are fed up with Goodwin just for today?

I would ask you to go and read comments here in Demonland from 2023 and 2024.

Which given them being closer to 2021 were even more pathetic! It's such a big deal to get rid of a coach. You muck it up and you can put your team back 5 years! Goodwin's proved he can coach and the players love him. He's not untouchable but if we still have the cattle and they still believe in him a sacking will waste what we have.

Many of our important players don't believe in him.  Nibbler left.  Clarry almost left.  Trac wants to.  Kozzy wants to leave.   I reckon Fritsch is sick of being there.  They're just some of the ones we know about.

Not sure the coach is the problem the list is wrong, the game has shifted from contest and defence to speed, and skills is a must and without kozzy and Windsor we have none of it

The Coach is the problem and has been for years, they have got to get rid of him now!

No,but even Ross Lyon plays a more attacking brand of football. Words I never thought I would say.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
