Not a great game for skills, but I am loving it. A group of young kids having a crack against one of the Premiership favourites. Clarry & Trac back. Viney casuing havoc. If we fix up simple skill errors, we can win it.

That Toby Greene goal should have been a free kick to Petty, and that is now the goal up GWS sleeve they needed - and didn’t deserve. It’s actually a couple goals for the game the umps have given them inside their forward 50, that have resulted in goals.

Come on it's raining and frittas not a big fan of the wet, maybe he should play with an umbrella hat?

We’re trying to be too cute for these conditions. Most of our goals have come from loose ball deep in the forward 50 but instead of getting the ball in there, we’re trying to hit the perfect pass. Just get the ball in there, get it to ground and see what happens.

Bloody Dopey Dwayne on Fox.......Makes for a very long afternoon.

Hope he chokes on his halftime milk.

Not convinced by Howes, not sure what he brings. Understand with McVee and Hore unavailable and Rivers gone into the mids, but backline feels light-on for small defenders.

Van rooyen needs to start getting involved

He had two goal assists that quarter.

Not sure about efficiency or possessions but Chandler is covering a hell of a lot of ground

And not doing too much!

He does s good thigs at times, but looks like a deer in the headlights under pressure, especially in and around packs.

Are you expecting deelanders to look at the positives.

I put the last 10 minute fade out down to fitness. We slowed to a walk waiting for Ht and they kept running. Symptom of them playing last week I think.

We’re doing a lot right but we will keep making life hard for ourselves if we don’t limit the turnovers and if we keep missing set shots from directly in front.

Fritsch’s first halves in particular are becoming a problem

Toby Greene is the one to stop.

Been involved in nearly every Giants goal.

Very good first half. I thought we were going to get pumped. Loving the look of Lindsay.

Seriously? We dominated 90% of that quarter and still lost on the scoreboard. Our forward line is hopeless, JVR and Fritsch can't get near it, Jefferson and Johnson not up to it. Leading every stat except the scoreboard. Sound familiar?

Bah humbug, can't even watch the game on the telly, paid for a watchafl membership (plus a regular one) and the club didn't send me a valid activation code.  And I've only just found this out.  Someone in the membership dept is going to discover a very grumpy email from me on Monday.

Yep Umpire fell for the 3 card trick. He had no way of knowing whether Greene had one hand holding Petty back or was Petty holding Greene by the arm.

No and he has so far stopped any Taylor influence on the game..

Jeffo 1 goal and a goal assist not enough for a first gamer??

Yes seriously, we're playing 6 debutants up against a flag favourite who absolutely thumped collingwood last week and we should be winning. That's good. I recommend taking a deep breath before you get too sad.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
