The healthy burger company have provided a significant cash injection to become a key sponsor for 3 years!

Delicious news.

I will continue to support our club by eating as much burgered beef as possible.

Was just about to post the same. I don't want sponsor dollars derived from ripping off workers. i hope they've cleaned up their act.

My partner does recruitment in this space. She's never been able poach anyone from Grill'd because they're paid so well, from head office to restaurant level.

Definitely over-corrected by the sound of it.

I've never eaten there but is there any chance they'd serve them in the Tridents area on level 2 of the Olympic Stand this year? At Kardinia Park they have a Chin Chin pop up restaurant so it's not that big an ask.

The SBS article (posted earlier in this thread) is interesting about the traineeship pathway being underpaid and that Grill'd has apparently set the wages lower for that type of role since it is focused on skill acquisition at "Hamburger University".  I know Maccas has a similar program (also called something about a University lol) - wonder if there are similar issues?

There are new criminal offences for wage theft from 1 Jan this year, but that's aimed at more traditional case of underpayment...

Will be watching, I really love Grill'd since I don't eat at other fast food chains!

Fair Work signed off on the traineeships. The union says they're not worthwhile but if you're keen for a career in hospitality it can get you a great gig managing a bar or restaurant. Many fast food joints do the same thing. I got paid less back in the day at Maccas to do the same thing. I'm sure businesses are taking advantage of it but Grill'd did nothing wrong legally.

Maybe not legally, but definitely morally; many staff were kept on those traineeship wages for extended (that is, beyond reasonable) periods of time. That was according to info I saw dated October 2024.

Hopefully they are investing more in their staff now, and not just the MFC.

What happened to the reaction buttons on my post immediately above this one? Is this censorship?

EDIT: No, it’s just me at my dumbest 🤣

Wow, I’d never noticed that before! Well, at least I got to use one of my favourite scenes from that film.

Speaking of Grill'd the Sri Lankan Cricket Team are being baked and cremated on their home turf doctored wickets!! Aussies 5-627 What are they doing? 'I'd make runs on that pitch! Tip Aussies to be all out for 923!

That’s the strangest pitch, it resembles concrete with hessian cloth laid over the top.

If only the club can wrangle a Ben and Jerry's sponsorship deal.

The irony thing is if you're team wins you get a free burger.

Grilld are probably happy to sponsor a club where they probably won't have to give away to many free ones

Don’t think they’d be happy with us losing games.
The more frequent customers go there even if it’s to claim a ‘free burger’ the better, but let the pile on continue in this thread too.

Yeah, I saw something about that and almost chose a NRL team. Not sure which one would actually win though.

If you're a storm fan you would get a burger practically every week

these 'get a free burger when you spend $20 if yr team wins' aren't exclusive to mfc / melbourne storm members

every member of every club gets that offer

shame there's no further incentive for mfc members as yet

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
