This is very impressive and appreciated, George.

Out of curiosity, what info sources are you tapped into?

George may have a few sources.

Here is a handy one on mfc membership page campaign=membership22  but they aren't great at updating it.

I have kept a record over the past 10 years or so, and drew heavily on @Lucifers Hero who was also keeping records.  What you see is a combination of both.

To update it, we take the numbers from the club website ( when they choose to publish), or information from posters who have been in recent contact with the membership department, and just ask the question "how many members do we have at the moment".

What shape are we in at this stage George?

Are that’s figures purely automatic renewals or is there some reasonable/ good growth potential in them.

I think we may start slowly but have good vibes if we start strongly with wins and play far more positive footy especially our new young stars it will get the fans back. Thats what I am hoping at least.

I've already paid for the GFG and my digital membership but I usually dont pay for my MCC/MFC dual membership option until closer to the season.

Spread some of these payments about a bit.

Almost all at this stage would be automatic renewals, including MCC.

The critical number occurs in early March. You can see from previous years if it is up or down by (x)number thousand, that will invariably not change over the course of the year.

I think the other one is if we are looking like playing finals around end of June/July. If that is the case there will be another push with people locking in finals tickets etc.

MCC/MFC Dual memberships may have been automatic renewals some time ago but MCC members face the same economic pressures as everyone else and unfortunately they are very much like GA members, they more than likely leave their dual memberships to renew just before the season starts.

Also Dual members are not on any type of rollover and they have to be made every year.

Great post, George. Thank you.

As a 46 year member, I have always been bewildered by the low early numbers. Especially 1987, our first year of finals in 23 years. Only 3122 members! This suggests I will be one of very few to reach 50 years (hopefully) in the next decade.

Although proud of this, a little sad that it will be a such a small party. At least my eldest son will be a member too. 🤗

I'm one of the automatic renewals.  Haven't been able to see a game live for umm... I think I saw one in 2010 or 11.  But I pays me money because I want my team to survive.  I'd be a 30+ year member but for the year I didn't pay up after they gave Woe the flick.

Great support and effort to the club.

Well done.

Ps are you related to Vagg?

  • 2 weeks later...

I signed up on Monday 6th Jan, but what a process. It seems anything related to Ticketmaster is unnecessarily difficult.
Then I received my receipt from the Club. It was dated 31 October!

Then they asked me to choose whether I wanted a physical card and scarf. I had already told Ticketmaster that, but I answered it again, directly to the Club. Unfortunately, it put me in a loop where it sent me back to the same questions, again and again. I signed out after answering eight times. Who knows whether my choices have been registered!?

Sorry, been a bit busy.  Umm, no.  I could've been related to Jack Mueller - Mum used to dance with him at the club dinner dances - but she married a non-Demon.

I love my club - being away has taught me that - and I want it to survive, so I do my little bit.

I ended up stuck in that same loop. Wasn't too fussed about a scarf but wanted the membership ticket given that I had issues with my electronic membership in 2023.

When the membership pack arrived it came with scarf and membership card.

Now at the multiverse MCG, Blues No.31 can shout at No.31 wearing a Dees scarf 😁

Pretty sure they can go in a ballot though

grandsons play junior cricket at blackburn north. dorks gave all the kids free memberships. I wonder how many other junior clubs they do that for?

I'm curious how that mixed marriage went.

Probably not advisable but did they at least follow the same codes?

Yeah, both followed footy.  My father varied between two teams apparently and had absolutely no say in who us kids followed.  We are up to our fifth generation of Demons now.  NB noone has married a Collingwood supporter.  Mum would be rolling in her grave, or more her ashes would be jiggling if that happened.

Anyone’s kids get there membership packs yet normally come before Christmas but haven’t got anything yet

Received ours a couple of weeks before Christmas, including the replacement item due to of the items not being age appropriate for toddlers (small pieces and replaced proactively by the club).

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
