I think we may have to shuffle some people around or look at recruiting a lockdown defender/half back this trade period. AMW while is promising is by no means a proven player, Rivers will likely be required more in the midifield, Judd is going, Salem is 30. That leaves Bowey. I think we need to go hard at someone, I believe we may be looking at CJ from Hawthorn (just putting 2 and 2 together, I'm not certain on this.)

I was thinking about his the other day and thought about Henderson as an option?? Dont know if his skillset would be able to transfer to the role but wont be complaining about moving further up the ground.

Do we know if WC would take him? We really need to get them into the picture.

Had we achieved this with LJ the deal could have been so much better.

We could of course let it be rumoured that if WC doesn't pick him up in the PSD we will. Can't see Judd standing out for 12 months

Freo could find a pick in the 20's to satisfy us

They didn’t, he was never saying he was leaving until the day he left.

Had the club changing the contract multiple times.

Now you can understand why they are so upset.

Pretty ordinary behaviour from Judd and his Manager.

I call BS

It's rare for a decent player to not re-sign all the way through to being out-of-contract

I reckon Lamb is just posturing (again) Either that, or he's clueless and can't read the (obvious) signs

And I see that May can't find a new club

There were a few here thinking he could get a 2 year deal elsewhere? 😁😁🙄

Welcome back Steven?

The Dockers are currently due to start the draft with picks No.12 and 33, though McVee's value is expected to fall somewhere in between those initial selections. But Fremantle is exploring ways to shuffle its top picks in order to satisfy Melbourne in a trade

Freo are trumpeting out loud that McVee is a high quality player, returning home and has chosen the Fockers. They’re saying it’s another sign that quality wants to join their club. His talents are being exulted by Freo faithful on the socials

& the club sure as hell aren’t going to give the truth about what has gone on from some players either (& nor should they). The club put multiple different offers to Judd

over 18months so says to me ..he was always going to go ..

I’d be stoked if we were giving away a pick in the 20’s in a weak draft for a player like McVee, absolutely stoked. Would improve our side instantly. But alas it’s not to be.

That's right, all the signs were there despite the heresay that went on

A good example is Scully. Didn't re-sign for reasons we found out later on

Gets a $2Million signing on fee plus another $4Million in a 6 year deal

The people who gave him the money would have told him to STFU and don't say a word to anyone ... otherwise, the deal is off!

That's how it works

I know what I'd be doing!

By the way, I reckon McVee will be getting about $2Million for 3 years at Freo

What were we going to pay him?

Are you his mum?

Nothing less than a pick in the teens. 20 at worst. There's very little value in picks further on, they become extremely speculative.

Taylor has a scout in WA who is obviously very good with good intel and we have recruited well from WA. But when they go the other way it's always to Freo and we always get reamed. It's time to make a stand. Let him go to the pre-season draft. A pick at 25+ makes it easy to say f### off.

Pick 12 is overs for Judd. Not ridiculous overs and probably about right if he was contracted (ala Flanders for 7) but very unlikely to happen in an uncontracted scenario

pick 12 ends up as pick 16ish in a poor draft. its certainly not overs. you'd be hoping you can pick up a Judd.

Judd and our 2nd round pick (23?) for Freo's 12

Or both Freo and Judd can eat dirt

Freo are in a win now mode, and the chances of them nabbing a player capable of playing Judd's role and making an immediate impact with pick 12 in this year's draft, is next to zero

Just keeping it real, old boy 😁

Isn't the median salary at least $550k these days

So $2Miilion over 3 years would be close to the mark

And to prise a player from another club often requires extra dosh

Edited by Macca

Depth players, rookies and draftees don't take up a lot of a club's salary cap

And a club might have up to 15-18 of those types of players

Salary cap above $18Million means there's plenty of cash for the long term players

Assuming we get the Spargo comp pick i would use that...not 23...

Just me 😀

Edit.. hypothetically take the 12 and 23 and try to upgrade to club needing academy points

I hope he falls flat on his face at Freo

Futher to this notion ... they'll probably have off 12 for other picks beforehand. So, for sake of discussion.. We jand over Judd.. they hand over say 21 ( to pick something)

We take 21, 23 and Spargo comp and try and get a decent upgrade back into the draft for probably only one decent player.

We still have need of points for our little gems ( dont we ? )

Tbh .. I really dont care how he goes. Nor any real interest in Clarry or Tracc if they move on.

Just want us to get cracking 😉

So West Coast have 16. Brisbane 19 and West Coast 22 & 23.

As in i wonder if Freo are throwing in their pick 12 to move down the order for West Coast pick 16.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
