My Rd 1  (besides Pickett) team as it stands, not sold on the second wing yet but hard position to play, im not 100% on Tmac on the bench either but its him or Petty, one might miss out.

I expect Lindsay to work his way into the team as well

This means our next in players are:  Sparrow, Melksham, Billings, McAdam, Hore, AMW, Lindsey, Campbell, Spargo, and Woewodin.  All beside Lindsey can and have played at the AFL level.  Big difference to last year where we didn't have as many of these players, or they were needed to pay major roles rather than supporting roles.

Not sold on Sharp on the wing either, reckon if he plays its a pressure fwd role

Reckon Windsor or maybe even Lindsay with Langdon for the wings

Nevertheless a strong side on paper...too bad the games played on grass

The loss of Kozzie in the first 3 weeks will absolutely cost us a win and potentially a subsequent finals birth if we’re around the fringes.

He’s our MVP in my opinion. He’s the bloke that can light a spark if we’re down by 15 points in the third quarter.

Our forward line looks completely impotent on paper without him.

Wait and see what the new forward Coach has drummed up, I have hit a suspicion if Kossie is in the middle that may be where we miss him most.

Suspect some forward moves bu Chaplin will overcome Kossies lack of presence.
Give Jeffo his chance!!!

58er - of course it would be fantastic if Kynan Brown got a run and established himself, but there is and will / should be a merit based pecking order.
Fierce competition for places can only be good for the team, though disappointing for those who miss out especially on September 27.

Thanks Mon.

perhaps I was unwittingly suggesting Pup get favoured selection I don’t want that but also I feel he has a lot of what we need in 2025.

I see in Pup Sharp Langford Lindsay pace and determination to run tirelessly ANB style and those four plus Lingers Kolt Kossie Duke should provide the necessary ingredients to produce a fast and exciting Demons outfit completely overtaking our stilted slow efforts in2024.

It may take sometime to get all this pace gelling together but trust me it’s our big chance to run the other teams off their legs. Chaplin is emphasising movement up forward and crumbing and this will play a big part also.

Piece by price it will come together and the team will be in another planet with this addition to our armoury.

That’s why I believe we are a Top 4 chance if we can succeed with the above improvements to our team in 2025,

Could change Tmac and Petty based on last years form but probably hoping Petty gets back to 2021 over Tmac who is on his last legs. But Petty could be swingman.

So that leaves three groups for the last 6 spots

Experienced, you know what you're gonna get:

Melksham
Chandler
TMac
Sparrow
Campbell

Promising high draft picks:

Langford
Lindsey
Tholstrup
Jefferson

Want to see improvement over preseason:

Sharp
Fullerton
Johnson
Laurie
McAdam
Howes
Hore
AMW
Kynan
Brown
Woewodin
Billings

So my opinion is I don't know. This is a useless post I wrote at work to count down the clock till work Christmas lunch.

One selection I'm much more certain of though, drop McSweeny for Konstas. Very harsh on McSweeney because Bumrah is an elite bowler, but that's the selectors' fault for picking McSweeny to open the batting in the first place.

Happy holidays all!

plugger mac and sparrow are best 25, at worst, and i think langford and tholstrup will be too

Not sure about sharp in the 22. Will need to see him play a practise match to see his skill level.

Can you have a side with 4 tall backs? Or do you need another mid?

would also like to see Jefferson claim a spot. Not sure who he takes over?

Lindsay will have to work into it i think, and Windsor looks to be moved to HB which i like.  so i think Sharp will get first crack, but will have to perform.

Yeh im not sure on the 4 talls, but could be good to help Max in a rotation. but i think TMac or Petty maybe miss out.  But they might try it first and see if it works or not.  Id love to see Jefferson in, but it would be a the cost of Turner, I hope he comes on but im not sure he is there yet.  But injuries will probably give him his chance.

We played Turner, jvr and petty in the same side last year. Jefferson could replace petty

and we finished 14th, with the Crows who were below us scoring more points.  New forward line set up wont have 3 talls and Fritsch who is a leading fwd.  With a new forward system and coach, i can't see us going to what was the 14 worst scoring side in 2024.

We had BBB, T Mac, Jackson, Fritta in 2021

There's always going to be one tall fwd on the bench in this set up

I think you are underestimating the forwards improvement and the system this year and 3 talls plus Fritta and 2crumbers or smalls will be used from 7 options inc. Kossie, plus Trac.

if that is not successful then Langford or Melsham  will replace a tall.

Johnson or Campbell will be added to our 23 if the weather is hot also.

Jackson didn't play as a key fwd, if someone could play that role id be all for it.

i hope there is improvement, but improvement means that they take spots not all get in.  2 small fwds isn't enough especially when one of ours plays the high half fwd role.

We need the high half forward and a couple of small pressure/goalkicking fwds also.  The only way i could see it working is if Tmac/Petty and Turner have a rotation between CHF/CHB and Ruck to give max a chop out, and one would almost certainly be subbed out every game.  would be interesting and potentially a game changer, but i don't think we are doing that.

With this team it's making the VFL side look like(Dees listed players only):

FB:  Hore  ???  Howes

HB:  AMW  Adams  Lindsey

C:  Woewodin  Sparrow  Billings

HF:  Spargo  Jefferson  Melksham

FF:  McAdam  Kentfield  Johnson

Mid:  Campbell  Laurie  Sestan

Int:  Brown  Mentha  Verrall  ???

This is a very handy VFL team and this is just AFL listed players,  there is a good 5-6 ex AFL listed players on Casey's list to fit in as well.  I don't have Fullarton in atm as i'm not sure where he fits.  might have to play in def this year.

Just depends who the VFL players are, and they may play him instead of Kentfield.  but if he has a defensive game, for sure

Just with Petty playing back don't see him and McDonald in the same side. Johnson is ready to go so should be ahead of Jefferson and I think McAdam needs to show some form before he gets a gig.

Melksham/McDonald/Sparrow/Johnson/Brown/Howes/Moniz-Wakefield/Woewodin/Hore all thereabouts.

Obviously not a round one team with the Pickett inclusion, just a preference for best.

A 5th interchange would have been ideal to include a second ruck like Johnson as a chopout for Gawn.  I'm OK with van Rooyen having short bursts, as he's good at it.

With others such as McAdam, Spargo, Campbell and Sestan we have more depth this year (subject to injury).  Casey should be a lot stronger.

I'm hoping van Rooyen, soon to be 22, can have a break out in his 4th year on the list.  It's the same year a 21 year old Jack Riewoldt showed what he'd become.

I hope Langford and Lindsay show they're worthy of a round 1 berth.  And at 22 Sharp should be ready to become a permanent AFL player.  It's the same age Ed Langdon broke through at Freo.

As a side note, a mate of my Brother is friends with the outgoing Collingwood recruiter Derek Hine.  Hine considered Lindsay the slider of the draft.  They rated him very highly and had him as a top 5 pick on their rankings.

As a second side note, there are 7 left footers in the above team, which I very much like.

That's a juicy tid bit out of the swamp, did they delve anymore into why Lindsay was so highly rated by the Pies?
