Yes, we are appalling in all facets of the game compared to them, as was demonstrated when they absolutely annihilated us at the Gabba by 5 points.

I wouldn't be going too hard against Swans, they just peaked too early. It's a bit like the Melbourne cup. Swans gave their supporters a lot to cheer about during the season. They were actually very lucky to get past GWS, virtue of some last minute heroics. We should worry about our poor ladder position.

Might say somehting about Fagan and something given the Gabba is very close totheG dimenions. Only a metre longer and wider andmetre played it superb y.

Lions cope with MCG . Swans maybe don't.

This issue was raised as one reason the Roos beat them in 96. Couldnt adjust to a longCouldnt the nd.

It was two sides that are not brilliant the lions are 3-16 at the G so it comes down to game style.

As an aside that Gabba game was when I knew Brisbane were the real deal.

Didn't even play well in that game and missed a boatload of chances but still managed to generate enough to beat a spirited Melbourne side.

A big shout out to the Big O. Carried himself beautifully in the face of real adversity.
The pure joy on his face was really great to see, as well as the way he celebrated with Fort.
A wonderful teammate. Total opposite to Mills who had a year to forget from a leadership standpoint.

Super happy for Brisbane, Fagan, even Zorko has proved himself a formidable player changing position and taking a spot in the AA team. Lots of great stories coming out of the Lions and you can see they have a big mix of player types which is a huge strength, diversity.

Big question marks for Sydney and Longmire - not sure how you keep doing what you’ve done and expect it to get you over the line next time. Find them very vanilla outside of their stars.

Not sure that's how I would describe our performance that day. We looked totally outclassed and Oliver had one of his worst games ever. At one point Brisbane were 50+ up late in the game and we kicked a few junktime goals to make things look more respectable but imo it was the first major sign our season was in trouble.

EDIT: Whoops misread your post thought you were talking about the first game at the G.

What did Mills do? I must have completely missed this

Missed half a season after injuring his shoulder wrestling a teammate in a drunken off season incident.
Then sulked about missing the grand final.
Not exactly leading by example.

Bloody Nora, how bad is the after game presser by Longmire where the lions team could be clearly heard celebrating in the next room? So disrespectful to the losing coach. Really bad form by the AFL not to have it away from team rooms

So apparently Lachie Neale snapped his plantar fascia completely in the celebrations.

Sounded like he couldn't walk on Thursday and they often have him doing minimal training to get him through but I'm sure he couldn't care less. Has quite the CV now.

Haven't seen this one back yet but I'm still stunned that Sydney didn't adjust to the way the Lions were transitioning out of the backline. They would either hit a runner with a handball off half-back and attack through the middle or use some leg speed to carry and setup from there, they scored a lot from this and the Swans really did nothing to combat it, even when they did manage to force them wide they just let them get their uncontested marks and have their way.

The game was won on the outside and Sydney were extremely disappointing.

One of the things that really annoys me about ARF is how we celebrate our champs

McInerney is 100% a premiership hero for me. Why is it only the ones that run out on GF day? Did Fort contribute more over the season to get the flag? obviously not even close. Give big O a medal.

Give Jayden Hunt a medal. I really don’t understand the mentality of ARF.

A complete accident?

Drunk as a mule and wrecking your shoulder wrestling with a team mate is not a 'complete accident'.

It's a choice.

Agree. How many complete accidents need to end in surgery?

I like Mills a lot but if you were gonna make one mistake in your career then this one was a beauty.

Didn’t Buckley rip his (the one Voss deserved but voting took place mid last quarter) off immediately and throw it away?

A mistake that got barely any criticism.

The coverage was all boys will be boys vibe - which as much as anything probably speaks to a societal acceptance of alcohol misuse (the number one cause of ER visits by a country mile).

Mills' stupidity ptetty wiped out his entire season. Was basically their only significant injury they had.

Great leadership right there.

And I don't see any club announcing itself as a super standout for next season, either.

I think Freo will be the big movers next year. Lots of draft capital, probably going to get Bolton and Baker from Tigers, their midfield hitting prime.

Buckley hid his medal in his sock.

Peter Moore famously threw away his runners-up medal after one of the many Collingwood GF losses.

Not sure this is right. Brisbane historically have struggled at the G>

Going into last week's prelim Brisbane were on a 6-1-30 streak at the MCG since the 2004 Grand Final. Narrowing that down, they were also 2-13 at the G under Fagan, with the two wins being against us both times (2022 SF and Round 6 this year).

Sydney had a poor run at the G last year (0-4) but under Longmire were 20-1-20 at the G before yesterday.

Yes maybe not.

But possibly the recent work in winning multiple finals on the G  (against us in 22 and this year against the Cats, plus other in season wins may point towards Fagans growth and rectifying the issue.

It can be argued they were stiff in last year's GF also.

The G problem for the Lions is now a rear view mirror issue IMO

The Lions of 7 years ago aint the Lions of today.

Whats their record since 2022?  Way better than 3-16

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
