Thank you Kate 🙏

I remember having a chat to her at the aflw Granny up at Springfield (yes it is as bad as Casey from a boondocks point of views)

She was in with the cheer squad from half time onwards and I was really impressed with her and the fact she was in with our supporters and not with the suits.

Thanks for everything Kate.

When she joined the board, the then existing board had in it's previous years put the club in it's worse position it had ever been in. The club was stuffed, the AFL had to appoint an outsider in Barrett to take over, a non Melbourne person.

We need to move forward and not live in the past.

No it’s not. It is one of the best facilities in the league. And includes administration which we do not have with the second rate stuff that we have.

And it is proof that’s a functioning Board can achieve in 10 years.

Springfield is at least a half-hour drive from the Gabba on an extremely busy freeway. It is an excellent facility, but it is not even in Brisbane. Springfield is a suburb in the adjoining city of Ipswich.

From the 2023 Annual report

The Club will launch our 2024 – 2027 Strategic Plan in February ahead of the commencement of the 2024 seasons.

Our new President can now release it?

The [censored]?

If anything, it's indisputable that we're in better shape than when she started in 2013.

The debate is over the role she played in that change.

I'm assuming @jnrmac meant when she started as President but I'll leave to him to confirm.

I just need a board and leadership that delivers the training ground project NOW! Not in 5 years maybe.

We would all love that mate, but I struggle to see where the funding comes from.
what’s in it for The State Government?

Maybe Members will have to get it done

Any Board that actually achieves a Home Training Base for the MFC should have Statues erected

I would chip in if they are serious about it.

I think a lot of supporters would be.

But it needs to be a solid and realistic project, no more consultations or business cases.

Totally agree.

It’s obvious that nobody wants to offer us anything at this stage.
As i said yesterday, many Clubs have built new Facilities and then Rebuilt and refurbished them, whilst we are still looking at paperwork

Why would anyone offer us funding now if we haven’t got a formal proposal, let alone without actually appling for funding?

Nobody is interested because there is nothing yet to get interested in. You may still be correct though, but until a formal proposal and funding application goes before the Govt, I can guarantee you that nobody will be interested in the MFC.

Except that our last strategic plan promised the commencement of construction of our home base in the MCG precinct in 2023.  Not a feasibility study, not a plan - but construction. And have you seen that strategic plan for 2024 - 2027?

I've now read the strategic plan for 2020-2023. It talks about its vision being to commence construction by 2023.

A promise is something that could not have been made without the necessary consents and agreements having been put into place beforehand and is altogether different to a vision.

I think it's reasonable to say they were a fair way off with that vision then.

And how many surviving Board members were entrusted with implementing that plan? With Kate's departure and David Robb's retirement this year, the longest serving directors now are Brad Green and David Rennick (October 2020). With the CEO there since 2018.

Wowee, that's hilarious!  Good grief I do wonder what's been going on behind closed doors to precipitate a tweet like that, though.

Brad Green was captain in Gawn's first year, and is now president. The tweet isn't hilarious or cheeky and doesn't mean anything about our club or recent affairs. It was just a stats question.

Ah, thanks for clarifying - I forgot their playing careers overlapped.

... still hilarious though.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
