Sorry if my post seemed too negative. I guess it was because I believe we are going backwards. I'll admit I'm bouyed by some great young players we've recruited. Quote

Where do the Cats play their preliminary final? Much appreciated. And do we feel it's pretty much a certainty given this year's meets and Giants at home that the Orange people will steamroll the other big cats on the Lions? Also I'm not certain that the cats can beat the Giants even if at the cat's home ground. And surprisingly, not confident despite the Swans dominance all year that the Swans can stop Hawthorn. Yes I'm backing Hawthorn to dismiss port after their abysmal first final. AO doesn't seem to give Port that mich advantage. Hawthorn are playing some scintillating footy at the moment. The cats did very well to not only break port's streak but in effect they pulled a proverbial Freo on them like Freo did to us. Ports confidence would be shot and on current form Hawks look dangerous. Especially the way they can just grab hold of a game and change momentum by kicking five in a row and making it appear easy. So if the in form and potent Hawks can delete a confidence depleted port then Hawks v Sydney will be interesting. But of course the travel for Hawks and rest for Sydney will probably be too strong. Although Hawks v Sydney would definitely be an interesting one. It's disappointing to not be in the mix ourselves because we beat the cats, Hawks and only just lost a line ball to the Giants and the lions. Injury really took it's toll upon is at the wrong time of the season. And I thoroughly believe that injury aside if we made the final eight we could be the wildcard like the Hawks. Although our inability to kick 100 points would have probably revealed it's ugly head again. Unfortunately , I've been sort of getting used to finishing top eight and somewhat arrogantly expecting to be there this time of the year. Maybe the players have been even more. And finally ( no pun intended) I don't look fwd to 2025 will a great deal of hope and positivity. I mean our fwd line is still a cacophony of players that provide chameleon performances each week and this was sadly mirrored by our midfield. Firstly from form then injury as well. Now there is a lot of noise about players being disappointed with the club. I know I'm digressing from my original post about home grounds but I feel our club has been infected by a general malaise of some sort that has left us scrambling to keep players at the club. Anb has left for family reasons but it may be something more than that or at least something has helped tip his hand . Gus has gone. Oliver is in doubt. Viney has made murmurings and he's getting somewhat long in the tooth. As are Max, May and Lever. Then we have a collection of players that have been at the club for some very average years or imported from some average clubs. I'm trying to be diplomatic here. Suffice to say if one looks at our 2021 stocks to today's and it's a very disappointing picture painted. I find it both interesting and sad that in 2021 a lot of our marque players were 24 to 25: years in age . That's pretty much in my view the cusp of the prime time of a player @ 26 years of age and the team should have gotten better each year. But sadly 21, without Jackson revealed a deep complacency in the higher ranks to ignore the absolutely plain as day issue with our fwd line. An injury ridden tall department and some form issues with others. And sadly this glearing problem continued into 2023. And here we are ( as mentioned along with other issues) at the end of another season with the same pointy problems. It's not all on the players or injury.....the FD 😔 is responsible for seeing the same problems for 3 years and then leaving it's head in the sand. We are a club that got lazy and complacent. We arrogantly thought that a great backline and midfield was more than enough. It's why Meatloaf was comprehensibly booed when singing at the Mcg ..."two out of three ain't bad," Ditto Boo. 'The Orange People.' Haven''t heard that before @leave it to deever. Is that yours? I hung out at the ashram in Pune back in the day. Edited September 8, 2024 by Queanbeyan Demon Quote

gs77 4,616 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Just reported on AFL.com.au that Sam Frost is out for the year with foot stress fracture. Bit of a blow for Hawthorn (who cares), but I'm sad for Frosty as a sometimes entertaining former Demon. 1 1 6 Quote
whatwhat say what 23,863 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 sad that there's no more frostball in 2024 interesting to see how the hok ball restructure their defensive set-up in 2025 and beyond with the addition of barrass and battle coming into their 'best' side those two plus frost, sicily, scrimshaw, weddle, blanck, grainger-barras is a lot of tall defensive types when, really, their best set-up really only has two or three of them Quote

Less worried about them against the sydney forward setup - but they have to get through next week first. Quote

No. 31 1,404 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 My quick review of the teams: Sydney - back into their groove, I still have question marks if they can do it at the MCG on the big day. GWS - despite losing to the Swans, think they might be actually more of a threat at the MCG at the big dance if they make it. Hawks - flying high and playing great, attacking footy. Not sure if it can last all the way. Will be interesting to see. Doggies - blew a great opportunity, still are the flakey team with a great list. Some poor decisions by Bevo. Carlton - a botched season and a botched elimination final. Too many injuries, players underdone returning from injuries. Some poor selections by Vossy that left me scratching my head. Brisbane - can't see them at the big dance at the MCG. Poor kicking for goal and late fade outs. Geelong - had my doubts about them during the season yet here they are in a Prelim after thumping Port away. An injury to Dangerfield or Cameron would sink them. Port - woeful game against Geelong. Can't see them picking themselves up after that. I am on the GWS orange freight train now 😁 1 Quote

But Hawks winning and traveling to Sch......to much travel. I see cats v swans with the swans winning the silverware. And deservingly so. Quote
Return to Glory 8,518 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 'Carlton's Nic Newman has been charged with striking for a fourth-quarter incident involving Brisbane's Lachie Neale. The MRO graded Newman's actions as intentional conduct, high contact and low impact. Newman can accept a $3750 fine with an early guilty plea, or risk a $6250 fine with a failed challenge.' Am I the only person staggered that he only received a fine? 4 Quote
No. 31 1,404 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Well Newman did not go out and seek to make contact. Neale charged towards him and he then put his arm up (at least that is what saw from the camera view). It was reactive, maybe even instinctive. 1 Quote

Don't think we went fishing for the Tracc Trout, seemed like that fish was trying to jump out of the water and into our boat 😁 Like we share Navy Blue, we have strange Match Committe decisions, odd in-game substitutions, like to hoof the footy along the boundary line instead of lowering the eyes and looking for options with separation and in good positions to score. When things go wrong, we don't have "learnings" but we do "find things out about ourselves" ... 😁 Quote
