Why is there a Vendetta from the media against the MFC?

They can't stop trying to throw [censored] at us.

It’s poor management of communication on our behalf. We need to be better at stopping leaks and controlling media narratives. It’s a major priority for mine if I’m running this club.

Didn't they hire a new person for PR? I believe someone that worked for Collingwood?

I don’t know why that’s so. But it’s a dog act to pick on a cheer squad when there’s no one else to pick on. It’s one thing to relentlessly bag our club, but to bag volunteers??? Shameful.

I always say we don’t need/want thanks because we do it purely out of love, but I’ll be [censored] If I have to read this sort of bs from so-called professional journalists.

Me. Demonland.

I have once again renewed my interest in Margo Robbie. No suggestion at this stage Margot is considering leaving her film producer husband for some weirdo on a footy forum, just that the interest has again been made clear.

Hang in there mate, dreams come true.

Won't last forever, it never does.

We do need to be better at controlling the narrative though.

I am still yet to understand why we can't thank Nibbler?

HE NEEDS TO LEAVE, THE CLUB HAS BEEN HUMAN ABOUT IT, END OF!!!

We'll miss him 100% - and I wish he could stay, but he obviously can't. Family always comes first.

Given his dedication over the years, that's not in dispute.

You guys are legends - LOVE YOUR WORK. Thank you!

Now it’s personal.

Bagging us for thanking Nibs? Not on my watch mother-[censored]. These bastards need to do their research, first find out WHY Nibs is leaving, the exact circumstances, then comment if they must.

Adrian from the DeeBrief pod went in to bat for us and he explained why…

I understand this and I agree, our comms aren’t great. But that doesn’t excuse these imbeciles. They should have researched the whys and wherefores surrounding Nibs’ departure instead of going with the he’s leaving for another club and you’re thanking him? thing. If they cbf finding out the circumstances, don’t comment at all.

100%, but unfortunately these media leeches will publish any sort of rubbish if it gets clicks. This is why we have to be better at controlling the narrative of what is out there for public consumption.

I thought we handled the ANB situation quite well, especially considering it was leaked out.

But because we've had 12+ months of bad publicity, it is now become open season on taking a steaming [censored] on the MFC.

Why is anyone surprised that a AFL journo would give the cheer squad a serve like that?  The concept of respect is foreign to them.

Ah yes, it wasn’t Melbourne already stating they would let Nibbler return to Adelaide (hence the banner), it was the thank you banner that now gives other clubs the upper hand.

Do I have that right?

I posted this in the koz thread, but it fits better here

(Note: I don't think the media has it in for us per se. The media is interested in drama. All footy clubs are rife with drama. But some clubs are better than others at keeping it in house - in large part because of really good comms management.

We're not one them

BUT I do think the smaller clubs, of which unfortunately the dees are one, do cop it more than the big clubs.

Does a media ghoul really want to get on the wrong side of say the pies, if the result is reduced access to their players and chuckles mcrae?  Wheras they could care less about angering the dees, dogs or the roos.

And I'd also note there is a correlation between these two factors - even with the soft cap, bigger clubs can afford to spend more on comms. I recall Peter Jackson saying he would prioritise using resources for the footy department ahead of things like comms because winning games was the priority)

Media:

Demons in CRISIS!!!!!!

Players left right and centre want our of the club!!!!!

Peteacca, ANB (quick release that info) and Kozzie all want out !!!!!!!

Reality:

Petracca stays. Koz stays.

Nibbla goes, but is at pains to say how much he loves his teamates and the MFC.

And mutiple players (including several future stars who didnt need to extend now, a respected senior player and our skipper) recommit in the last two to three months.

Reality:

Three of the Tigers five best  players want out - Bolton, Baker and Rioli.

And all three will almost certainly leave.

Even in the context of tbe rigers being in rebuild mode, that’s huge -particularly given all three are at the peak of their powers (unlike say tracc, who is pushing 30 and returning after a very serious injury).

Imagine if at the start of goody's tenure tracc, oliver and Max all left the club

And losing two senior Aboriginal players can't help in terms of support for young Aboriginal recruits, or trading in Aboriginal players for that matter.

I take it as them saying a player is choosing to walk out on us to join another club and we foolishly bid him farewell and thanks, when we really should be p’d off with him.

With you on the woad, @WalkingCivilWar and your comrades-in-(Demon)arms.

Craig Hutchison, as an owner as well as a *cough* reporter in the media(ocrity), has a double agenda: not only 'look at me' but also 'look at mine'.

Anyone corresponding directly with him (and with him and C.Wilson on the (I presume) Richmond silence)?

Hutchy has no friends, so of course he finds it unbelievable that we would want to show appreciation and support for a player who has given their all to this club and is leaving for personal legitimate reasons.

I think what the media wants is for Nibbler to tell them his private family business. They would like to know what his wife's favourite colour is, what their baby had for breakfast, what his mother does for work, and how many times a week he waters his lawn. They can't stand the fact that they know he's leaving for personal reasons, but that they are not aware of the very intimate details of said reasons.

They did the exact same thing with Finlayson, and boy oh boy did that fire back when they realised why he needed to move back to SA.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
