Viney as good as gone after hearing that comment. Sorry to say, but it’s bleeding obvious after that. He could he playing the contract hold off game, but that answer he gave Lynch was deafening in a pessimistic way.

Pert was emphatic on SEN this morning. Viney going nowhere.

Yes. Almost like his instinct was to say yes and then was like “wait I want a contract extension” 🤷‍♀️

Yeah that's how I read it. He isn't going anywhere but is negotiating a contract.

Made a BIG BIG statement today. It's significant that injured players were flown up to keep the unit together.

And that photo at the end, they are really saying something about loyalty to one another.

And sticking it up hacks like Damien Barrett.

Did you watch the game? If you are leaving, you are not playing like that.

After the ridiculous feeding frenzy that was the media/commentary on our club, THAT is what leadership looks like. Brutal, tough, inspiring, uncompromising. I 'dips me lid' to Viney, ANB, Gawn, Lever for showing commitment and pride to our jumper and club.

Even more so, I am loving the spirit and grunt shown by our large group of your fellas. Turner, Tholstrup, McVee etc... A real strong group of younger players reminding me of early days under Neal Daniher.

But it was against a very, very disinterested Gold Coast.

Gawn spoke wonderfully yet again. Great captain and leader. To me today was a performance of united group, no fractures.

Can’t say how I feel about Trac though. Can’t see him with the team in the rooms. Oliver is there, Spargs is there.

Where are you Trac?

May is home too. I don’t know that we need to read too much into it.
But really good to see Clarry there!

Good to see Clarry up there with them

To me, Clarry is a bit like Shane Warne in that he just loves playing with his good mates and thrives the most when he's happy around them

Dwayne is cringe but his burnt toast analogy is spot on IMO. I reckon there’s a huge chance we can rise up the ladder again in 2025.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned enough is us pioneering giving ANB a game after a public trade request. I thought he was great, so I wonder if it will catch on?

No Jefferson yet but Turner could kick 40+ next year. He can seriously play.

JV as dominant as I can ever remember him being.

Melksham should definitely play one more.

The guy in the ARC should be fired on the spot and never work for the AFL again. Completely gutless and sadly predictable. When was the last time one of them went our way?

What'd he say?

Asked you’re not going anywhere are you?

Said “nah” but then said “we will finish out the year and see what happens”.
Was odd.

Are you kidding bro?

If I’m leaving, I’m playing better and going hard to use that as leverage to show clubs this is what I’m worth. You want me? You pay up.

Why would you play worse and risk other clubs cooling off?

Vines has never been a great speaker and is far from diplomatic. I have zero concerns about Viney staying

Are you joking? Initial response was an enthusiastic YEAH. Followed by a vague remark that read to me as “holy [censored]. My manager will be [censored] off my saying that in contract talks”.

Sorry, I got that the wrong way around.  He was asked "you're not going anywhere?" and replied Nah enthusiastically.    Some people seem deermined to read the worst into everything.

Because it goes both ways, if I get injured I’m getting nothing. 1 game is not jacking up your value, but it can certainly put a quick end to all talks.

I hate to say it but if we won just two of those four games we lost by less than a goal..ie lions....Port...Gws... Carlton....

We would be playing finals again.

Throw in some shocking injuries and it explains quite a bit.

I just love these pessimistic posters, following a massive win like that. TBH you must have a miserable life.

The 4 points and percentage hurts but hopefully the Suns can give the Tigers a good belting next week.

Lots of drama still to come but a nice reminder to the players of what they can do when they’re physically up for the contest and the opposition are witches hats.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
