Nothing else My inside knowledge is that trac is needy for attention and always has been. But not leaving. Wants to be loved and back in a successful team. Pretty much like all of us. Morris has misconstrued agendas and come up with a product. Selling papers though so mission accomplished. Petracca coming out the next day to say it's garbage, there's issues being worked through but he has no thoughts of leaving, wants the club to get back to challenging for flags etc proves it's just clickbait with no basis in reality, right? To be clear though, in the OP linked podcast Tom Morris suggests he hasn't asked for a trade, on the basis that he doesn't want to and have to then deal with the request being denied. Quote

At the break of Gawn 4,512 Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 I find it hard to believe that this footy department, which won a flag 3 seasons ago, wouldn’t be receptive to Trac’s feedback on performance, which then led him to go public with his grievances. It’s not like it’s Ablett at the Gold Coast here. I hear guys like May say the Melbourne way, and many media people say we train the hardest (King in particular). I wonder if it’s more to do with this current group’s flag prospects over the next few years. Morris did say “direction of the club”. Trac has his brand and he knows he’s probably only at his peak for 3-4 more years. I can’t wait until he breaks his silence, but he has a lot work to do to make it up to this playing group. Tomorrow’s game is almost a side-show for the media. Goody wasn’t even asked about the game this weekend during his presser. 1 Quote

Right now, Petracca would walk out of the club if he could. Blaming Morris for shedding light on the story lacks intellect. You should be grateful you've been informed. Now it's in the open hopefully the right changes will be made. If Morris, or lets say a Wilson, Purple, whoever get the facts right, I have no issue with the reporting. But when there is joyful glee at delivering the bad news with added editorial comment presented as fact I have a serious problem. Tall poppy syndrome is a thing, and there are media darlings and those sent straight to the stockades. Morris ‘slants’ what he says every time, I don’t respect this from someone who has never played the game or put himself out there in trying to do something. He is a critic not a creator and he should show more respect for those he slams publicly. A set of straight teeth and a firm opinion of oneself doesn’t mean merde in terms of credibility. 2 Quote

If you can't tell the difference between Collingwood, Geelong and us you've got rocks in your head or just being wilfully ignorant. My rocks are Bach and Bruckner and Beethoven. And, yes, I can tell the difference between Collingwood, Melbourne and Geelong, and not only because of their jumpers ( Jack Flash). The main differences are to do with the fact that Geelong and Collingwood play interstate about once every Leap Year, even the Collingwood coach admits it's why they get so many free kicks and non free kicks, i.e. when home crowd umps look the other way, and umpire with their ears, why Melbourne has played Geelong at the MCG once in two centuries, and not one E Colli Wobbler has ever been in strife for Missing De Meaners outside footy hours, and every Geelong player has always loved their coach, ditto Collingwood. Yes, Herr Doctor Gonzo, the Demons are the victims of Media Cruelty and I have lodged a complaint with the RSPCA. By the way, do you Bulk Bill? 1 Quote

McClure has been so far off in the last 12 months, both in his 'opinions' and 'mail'. I'd trust Morris far more than McClure. 2 Quote

I fully agree. Jon Ralph is one that annoys the hell out of me. On more than one occasion he stated that Petty was desperate to get back to Adelaide. This wasn't true, it was merely Ralph's slant, or added editorial comment, as you put it. Petty would have happily gone home, but Ralph's exaggerations were erroneous. There's no doubt there's joy (and exaggerations) in the reporting of Melbourne's current malaise. But I want to reiterate, I'm only interested in facts, as best as I can ascertain them. I'll let others take the emotive route. 4 Quote
pitmaster 3,592 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 (edited) Morris was wrong in the podcast with his comment that Melbourne pushed Jesse Hogan out (pursued relentlessly by Fremantle, suffered from the death of his Dad, treated for testicular cancer wanted to be close to family, and sent a message of gratitude to Melbourne supporters once the deal - which Melbourne almost walked away from - was done), but otherwise Morris comes across as pretty genuine. I know plenty of people don't want to hear that because he has such a punchable head, but I was impressed with his professionalism. And he is right - footy fans don't understand mass media. manny100 1,625 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 (edited) Where is the evidence Tracc requested a trade? Without evidence its just footy pub talk and thugish journalism. Are they saying they know for a fact? No - pub talk. The Dees followed all the right processes which was ticked off by the AFL. Cant do any more than that. Tracc is contracted and that is it. What is culture? Define it? I wish Goody would ask that question of the interviewer when asked. We have had many games where the team has had the most 22 and under players. I think we have done ok and are building. It will all blow over in due course. Edited August 17, 2024 by manny100 Quote

The deafening silence from Christian on this controversy is telling. After Pert sent out the club letter, not putting words in Petracca’s mouth but just stating that he is valued, contracted and going nowhere, the obvious confirming response should have come next day from Petracca. Then we could all move on. But no there has been nothing, just crickets, so Pert finds himself fronting the media again to explain what’s going on. That was this morning and still nothing from Tracc but a huge statement gameday by Viney, the kids and Max. Everyone is up north for the club song except Tracc. Not a great look for him and I reckon Pert & Co aren’t too happy. 3 Quote

The steps the Dees took with his injury were ticked off by the AFL. If there was fault it was with the standard practices used by clubs. I believe they have been changed now and players are required to get internal scans. 1 Quote
