Can you answer my question about what Geelong offers us in return?

Also why would Goody heap praise on Clarry and say he will be with us next year, if the club was planning to trade him?

Yes

I think it's highly likely Oliver is with us next year but even if he wasn't, what else would Goody say

He could say he’s having surgery and we are looking forward to getting him fit.
He didn’t need to go on about how proud the club is of the progress Clarry made and how happy and determined he is to get to his best.
Goody isn’t exactly the smoothest media performer, so if it wasn’t true I think we would be able to see right thru it. But he sounded very very genuine to me.

Just as I thought he was clear that there are issues to be resolved with Trac. Never lied or denied it.

A couple of years ago a Carlton supporter told me Clarry would be a Blue, all done.

Often a supporter hears their club is interested in a player and jumps to conclusions.

Not knocking you but time will tell. If your mate is correct there will be a lot of egg on Goody’s face.

Wrong assumption. Club might not want to trade him, but he is being Hunted by Cats and.. Aints

Exactly how I saw the interview too. I’d be stunned if Clarry left this trade window.

So if the club doesn’t want to trade him, then the whole thing is moot as he has years to run on his deal.

And of course he’s being hunted. He’s a star player. Doesn’t mean anything.

Biggest media pile on a club since the Essendon peptides saga. When will it stop?

They deserved it though,  for, you know,  running a secret systematic doping regime

But it will have been Goodwin's decision.  How do you have egg on your face when you're in control ?  He simply would say the club and Oliver came to a mutual decision.

Pick 4 and 5 (Josh battle compo) would be a much more enticing proposition for the club. The Saints would have to be bonkers to do it though, but then again, maybe they think they're one ready made superstar away from putting it all together. Maybe Ross Lyon wants to get back into the finals asap. Stranger things have happened!

Why would the club spend a whole season rehabbing Clarry, and playing him injured, only for his trade value to diminish and then trade him?

Would it not have been wiser to cut our losses last year when his value was higher, and we were trying desperately to get more picks to make a trade with WCE for pick 1?

Geelong were keen last year too and had a better draft hand than they do this year.
It would be poor list management would it not?

Your post was good until the last line.

We've made list management error after list management error for a few years now, Jaded.

Who's copping more grief right now?  MFC or Raygun?  The pile on is over the top in both cases.

Difference being Raygun is going to profit $$$ from it massively

Unquestionably? Why then are there 6 midfielders listed above him in the Dland "player of the year"?

A demonland poll is probably not the fairest assessment of clarry diem this year given some of the nonsense written about him

If that was the case it would be negligence on the clubs behalf not to accept that offer.

Love Clarry to bits but you would have to take those picks, if you want the best thing for the MFC.

A very special player and  If he has the desire to get seriously fit, he will be a massive bonus in 2025. Hope he gets healthy and happy within himself again.

Ball is in your court Clarrie, but most importantly look after you

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
