And in this hypothetical, we not only hand Carlton a flag, we drastically improve our chances of winning one too.

I disagree actually.

I don't think McKay helps us win a flag if we can't win contest and get the bloody ball in there.

Late in the first quarter last night we had 12% time in forward half. It must have been some record. Was it @WheeloRatings?

We need to fix our midfield.

I think there is the possibility McKay helps us win a premiership but only if the deal as you say has another first round pick. We then potentially have three maybe four picks inside thirty and load up on midfielders. Not going to help us win next year but I don’t think our list will challenge next year anyway. I think our list is better placed to challenge from 26 onwards and should look at what clubs will offer us for Tracc.

You could well be right mate.

Yikes. I like Goody taking a strong line but doesn’t sound like Trac would be staying if he had a choice.

Agree. I am probably a bit hot headed with this stuff, if trust is broken on either part, it’s best to move forward and go seperate ways.

This years draft is a critical period, we need to nail it and Trac gives us the whip hand.

Not if he insists on going to certain clubs, which he certainly will.
If he wanted to go to Richmond or North, I would be all over a trade. But no chance we trade him for some crappy future picks because he only wants to play for Pies or Carlton.

Sorry but you were happy to take a big chunk of our salary cap and commit long term when it suited you, and now you want out and we are expected to lose out?

I think at this point there are two factors in his silence.

The first would be that he is mulling over a trade request but doesn’t yet know if a club he wants to go to can satisfy us. So he can’t commit, nor can he say he wants out. So he says nothing.

The second would be his mental health. I suspect he is in a much worse place than most on here understand. Stepping out of the interview late last night can IMO be well explained by that. He isn’t anywhere near his normal self and that will be impacting his judgment, decision making and persona.

This is a great take on the situation. I hope his manager and those around him are telling him to take his time and not even think about his footballing future until he is fit and healthy again.

I calculated it to be 36% time in forward half for Melbourne in the first quarter, so not sure if the 12% was in the last 5 or 10 minutes to that point rather than the whole quarter. It was certainly territory dominance at the start of the first, second and fourth quarters though.

I think he could also be waiting to see what changes are made inside the Club

Will the rules allow Petracca do a Cam McCarthy and walk out of his contract, sit out next season then go to next seasons draft or be picked up by another club by other means?

i think he can retire and then come back but i suspect these are known loop holes which would have clauses around them to stop players changing clubs without some oversight.

Most recent case was Liam Jones from Carlton. I can’t recall whether Blues got compensation for him.

Until he actually says what's going on, it is hard to not be cynical here. The feels like a systemic play by player and manager to get out of a club that is going in the wrong direction. He could stay and help, as he is contracted to do, or he could antagonise the club to the point that they have little choice. As of now, it appears to be option B.

He came out the morning after the Pies game to insist he made the call to play. That was swiftly deleted. Many of us were horrified that the Doctors let him back out there, and still are, but the evidence suggests that there was no test on field they could have made to determine the extent of his injuries. As usual with our club under the management of Gary Pert, there is no clear answer though.

I am sympathetic and agree that the club is being poorly run, but guess what? Football clubs are about supporters. If he wants to go, he needs to clearly explain why so that either the right change happens at Melbourne (board/executive/footy department) or it is clear that he is suffering from a complex MH issue and needs to be away from the scene of his trauma. Tanking the footy club so that they have no choice but to let him go is a kick in the guts for every supporter.

I have a sick feeling that this story will kick off on Monday with the media being briefed of a trade request ala. Shai Bolton a few weeks ago, giving the player room to deny it but giving the club a clear message that he wants out.

listening to caro on 3aw, she thinks the communication issue is as much on trac as it is with the club; he needs to communicate what the issues that he's had actually are, which haven't appeared to be outlined

no one player is bigger than the club and if he doesn't want to be part of the future then so be it

i would like to know what issues he actually has with the club

I’m not actually weighting that towards McKay alone, more that we’ll get McKay and a high first rounder plus our own first rounder.

Couple of highly skilled mids would have us closer than 6 more years of Trac

The club can give us nothing more than he’s contracted. I’d say there’s a lot going on behind the scenes by his manager to try and get Tracc out of the club. Carlton and Collingwood are working out how to make it happen . The club needs to dig in and force him to see out his contract or extract such a good return we drive him to his new club. Not a good look for anyone involved, especially our club.

He hasnt worked through any of his issues yet.

Hes only just got back to the club after going through some heavy bad thoughts and trauma, and only just opened up to his team mates on the toll its had on his mental health.

Id hardly say getting in front of a microphone to say everything is sweet is the first thing on his mind. Once he works through his grievances with the club im sure he will do that in due course.

as mentioned numerous times, hes contracted, theres plenty of time in the offseason for him to speak publicly when hes ready.

No one was jumping down Pettys throat when he publically said he wanted out but then recommitted

He can take so much pressure off himself…….if that’s what he wanted. He’s treating us like mugs.

I’m not sure you are his priority here Roost.. Yours , the public, media or the club.

All power to him for putting himself and his loved ones first.

Does Tracc need to say anything? 5 years contracted. Turn up on November 8 or whenever it is and get back to work.

Maybe that’s right but why wouldn’t you want what’s best for the club, which is to put the story to bed? It doesn’t add up

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
