Here's the thing, and it's just my own view and not everyone will agree with this. 

Everyone can see an enormous factor in this whole situation is trauma and mental health, it's obvious and horrible for Trac and his family. But gutter journalists like Tom Morris only care about headlines, attention and clicks, he wouldn't give a [censored] about any negative impacts this has on Trac the person by having him all over every newspaper and TV constantly in a situation where a trade happening is a 1/100000 chance anyway. 

I understand he had to get the info from somewhere and perhaps that came from someone close to Trac, but the source clearly didn't think this through, and Tom Morris in my opinion has shown a complete disregard for player welfare in running this story under these circumstances, but at least it helped him repair his credibility and brand a little bit following his disgusting, sexist comments that should have seem him removed from the industry for good in the first place.

I'm not particularly interested in having a crack at Morris' previous issues and who he is as a person, but I do think you raise an excellent point in terms of mental health. Where is the AFLPA in all this? I do wonder if they attempt to push back at all in circumstances like this. They seem good at bringing up their issues around remuneration and days off, but I don't recall them ever giving a significant statement when there are mental health implications to the rumour mongering style reporting like this Petracca situation.

It's clear the media won't regulate themselves, the style and quality of reporting has likely never been worse, so where are the AFL and the AFLPA in terms of providing some push back when the circumstances warrant it?

Absolutely agree with this.

And sometimes the media reports are flimsy and pathetic - you don't need to make a straw man out of them. But in most cases these feeble stories are immediately addressed, dismissed or just laughed off. That hasn't happened here. Unless this is a case of "he's so wrong that responding would give the rumour unwarranted credit", everything points to the central claim from Morris - that Petracca is so unhappy he wants to leave - being true.

What can they do beyond re-educate the individuals involved? I contrast this with the Clayton Oliver situation where the ultimate respect was paid to his mental health and stability by the AFL media.

There's a lot both the AFL and AFLPA could do. The media relies on the access to players, officials and clubs for the majority of their content. If there were guidelines around reporting that may impact mental health, with clearly defined outcomes should they be broken, then I believe that could create more consistency in what is reported, and how.

The Clarry situation is perhaps different as there's potential legal implications there around what is reported or insinuated, as well as more obvious push back given the nature of it all. Even still, there's still comments being made by media even now about his 'known issues' or 'tumultuous offseason', so I think they're still riding it, but in a way where they skirt around any type of legal complications.

For mine, I just think the AFL and AFLPA have a lot of work to do in having more say around what is unhealthy reporting from the media.

It follows reports that Petracca addressed the playing group on Monday, clarifying his extended break in Noosa, his terrifying season-ending injuries suffered in round 13, as well as growing trade speculation.

There have been suggestions that Petracca had become disgruntled and disillusioned with the club.

And despite Dees skipper Max Gawn moving to shut down speculation that tension still exists between Petracca and his teammates, Wilson still has her concerns.

"I find the communication breakdown at the Melbourne football club extraordinary," Wilson said on Nine's Footy Classified on Monday night.

"What is baffling to me is that Christian Petracca addressed his teammates this morning, for the first time as a group, and talked about the trauma he suffered.

"I'm staggered that players didn't know that Christian Petracca had gone up to Noosa for a month, because he was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, if that's what it was, or some form of stress and trauma after what had happened to him.

"If he's got all these cultural issues with the club, when he addressed the players ... I wish he'd said that. I'm told that he specifically only spoke about what he went through (with his injuries)."

Wilson also questioned why Gawn has been withholding information surrounding Petracca's health from his teammates.

"How does Max Gawn ... keep his teammates in the loop about how Christian is going? About why he's gone to Noosa?" she said.

I’m not going to reveal my sources, so don’t ask, but Christian did a tour of the Yarraville-Seddon Eagles facilities last week. He was very impressed by what he saw, including access to the Westgate, and public transport options on both the Werribee and Williamstown lines.

His reservations are parking around Anderson street, and the lack of blockbuster movies showing at The Sun cinema. He does however rate the cinemas Choc Tops.

I'm not sure if Caro or anyone else for that matter, understand the complexities around mental health - perhaps Tracc hadn't felt comfortable opening up about the seriousness about his issues and perhaps had asked for sensitivity around this. It's very likely that Max and the FD didn't feel comfortable passing on that information. The impression the players may have got was that he was having fun in Noosa while they were struggling on the field, particularly at Casey. Things can get misinterpreted, despite good communication. 

The lack of nuance in footy journalism is astounding sometimes.
