Very interesting about Mitch Cleary on SEN this morning saying he reckons there's a bit to play out with Petracca still.

With Paul Marsh being involved and having interviewed Petracca recently I too wouldn't be surprised if this discussion pops up around trade time.

I have been wondering if this might be the case.I didn’t think his statement was as convincing as Dan Houston and he’s back on the trade table. 
 

Probably a smart play- has stopped the rumour machine and might be waiting to see if another club can get a deal or two done to get the draft capital. 

Just trade him to the Bloos for Cerra and a couple firsts and get it over and done with

Given Carlton are chasing Houston, I’m unsure how Trac gets traded. Pies won’t find a satisfactory trade and Blues clearly have other priorities. 
Doesn’t mean Trac won’t keep trying.

Chad Warner hasn’t resigned with them. Out of contract next year and lots of talk he wanted to go back to WA with Freo the front runners. They have the trade capital, as do West Coast. If he move they would have the cap.

Well if wants to go to Sydney I reckon they have plenty of players we would be keen on. Unfortunately they won’t have the draft capital, so I still can’t see a deal being done. But will happily take Gulden off their hands 😂

Did you listen to the Paul Marsh interview on SEN? It’s just a review of the AFL process with a focus on improvements going forward. It’s not an investigation. Petracca ain’t going anywhere for now…

Houston’s comments were on radio. Not an official club statement like Petracca’s.

Ok maybe I'm living in delusion, and I am on the other side of the world so perhaps not reading the temperature, but given the statement that came out last week with Trac reaffirming his commitment to Melbourne and the club reiterating that he's not going anywhere, doesn't anyone else feel that these stories continuing are actually the media just drumming up more fuel to put on the fire and keep the story going?

I mean it's been widely stated that no club has the ability to not only trade for him and satisfy with contract requirements. Is this all just drip-fed info to keep the story rolling between each finals week?

I dunno, maybe it's just me wearing my rose-tinted specs.

Also the media can go suck a fat one on this, they have reported time and time again that the mental toll and trauma that Trac has experienced, at yet they are quite happy to keep drumming this up and keep it front page. Get stuffed.

Yes I did, never said it was an investigation..

I didn't say Petracca was going any where either.. I just said I wouldn't be surprised if the trade discussion reared itself back up again come trade time. 

I don't feel it will happen this year but I do feel there have been plenty of situations where deals got done not long after they seemed dead.

I understand win-win negotiations as much as anyone but with 5 years left and the chaos this has caused I'm not super concerned with getting the perfect outcome for Trac. This is how it's coming across from a lot of people even if they don't mean it.

The fact is that we are in control and if the narrative really is that the place is terrible and he wants to leave, then he can leave to where we say. Once again, if the problem is our club and the solution is to get out then unless those clubs have a war chest, your choices are Richmond, West Coast, Gold Coast, Tasmania pick your poison. If he doesn't like it at first, then his manager can do what he's paid for and talk him around to it. He's welcome to keep going for his 'perfect trade' at the new club and use them as a nest featherering station (like we could be for him next year) or he could just stay here. Wanting to leave and then pricing yourself out because you only were only prepared to go to 2 clubs would say more about him than us.

And the strength of our position does not change next year, the year after or the year after that.

Free agency was brought in so that at the END of a contract and after an extended period of service a player can choose where they want to play. At the end of a contract prior to extended service, the club chooses where the player plays, or if the player dislikes their club so much they can go to the draft and get out to a (likely) bottom team. When under contract, the club chooses where the player plays. Full stop. With the system working like this, all parties get their time when they have the power. Players should plan their contracts around this and clubs will be managing the contracts of their entire list around this being the way it will work.

Nice in theory but that's not how it works. If he wants out and nominates his preferred destination he will get there and we will just suck it up. His manager will help facilitate the trade by making sure the club he nominates has the capital to send us, which is why it's been put on ice for 12 months ,- Collingwood/Carlton don't have the capital now but they may in 12 months.
