I thought Roffey’s interview was hit and miss. I thought the stuff on Oliver, Petty and Pickett was well handled, however she stumbled quite a lot on the Petracca issue.

What I can’t understand is why she kept on referring back to her perspective rather than taking the perspective as someone representing the MFC. Why would you say to the question, “Has Christian Petracca told the club he wants out” “well he hasn’t told that me specifically”. We’re not interested in your perspective, we want to know from a club perspective which surely you must be across!

I just felt it came across as someone who was more interested in how they are being perceived personally rather than how the club is viewed.

I agree with that, but she didn't want to answer the question, which is why she answered in a personal capacity.

The answer needed to be: "Trac's got some issues and has discussed his future with the club, but we have made it clear to him that a trade won't be happening."

If this Petracca debacle isn’t enough to handle and now hearing about Kozzie being homesick (presume mainstream media has already picked up on this) doesn’t kill us, surely or perhaps desperately hoping this will make us stronger going forward.

I wouldn't be siding with a self centred, money-hungry divisive figure like HWSNBN (II)

He'll get support elsewhere as opposition  supporters and the media like nothing more than weakening a rival or a club that is in the gun ... so it's always the club's fault, not the fault of the selfish, divisive figure

Those people here who have played  a bit of sport know full well how even one bad egg can destroy a club

That type of figure can divide the playing group and it's often the coaching that cops it in the neck as a consequence

So the club really is bigger than the individual.  By siding with the aforementioned, you're not helping your club

We should just take what we can get for him (some club will pay up) and get on with maintaining the team ethos

HWSNBN-11 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The no BS no CP thread is gonna go off @Redleg

This could potentially set a very bad precedent, one which the AFL don't want and can't handle.

Players requesting trades to improve their brand (earning potential) that is provided by the clubs with bigger supporters bases.

It's outside the salary cap, but an obvious enticement and reward for playing for said club. These clubs could even promote (sell it) to the extent players take a reduced salary knowing they have 100,000 members subscribing to their site!

it definitely happens all the time in the states in their big sports

i think it'll become more the norm here too

it happened i'd say 20 years ago in the nrl

His camp are deflecting away from the real reason he wants out - Money

I'm not suggesting that the club doesn't have the odd issue or 2 but make no mistake, this is about his earning capacity and he wants the football world to believe that it's not about the money

So the pile on will continue

Meanwhile, our club has to stave off the football world coming at them but worst of all, it's own supporters piling on

And it's always about the club for my liking.  Individuals come and go and selfish individuals need to go quicker

Judd did it back in 2008 or whenever he left. Remember how they made him a Visy ambassador? It’s not new, but it’s just more visible with social media.

You bring up and interesting point that could potentially be taken one step further. I'm not suggesting that this is the case with this situation but there is also the potential that potential suitors could promise certain 3rd party endorsement deals this way. The AFL need to be looking into new media and influencer deals very carefully in the future.

a man in a suit and tie talking to another man in front of a lighthouse store

Trac is ( or should we be candid, was ) a very good player. On his day could turn a game. Marvellous stuff.

And here we are. No player is THAT good you sell the farm or cow tow to.

Grievances are one thing , too many tix-on-self is another.

If his focus is NOT on being a TEAM MEMBER ... then is that who we want ?

Trac....either you're with us or you're agin us. No in between.

Go Dees..   you coming along Christian ?

If Christian Petracca demands a trade to the point the the MFC had to let him go would his contract stand. Ie another club has to take over the contract or would he negotiate a new contract.

I hope people back off the Trac hate a little after the Roffey interview today.  I have no faith that the upper management have been competent in looking out for Trac and his family after the incident.

Looks like they see it as a football issue not a club one.

Time to both bury the hatchet, say we both went about it the wrong way, and move forward

They have to take on his contract

When you open the thread to find the following comments for the umpteenth time:

"This thread has gone off Trac"

"Show me concrete evidence that he wants to leave"

You know that you have not missed a thing and are living a very healthy Thursday life..

Is this the opportunity for the club to reset the list for another crack at the flag.

I don't think we can win another flag with our current midfield, we need a better balance with contested bulls to silk ball users.  We also have an aging ruck with no support.

Trac is our best player, has the most trade currency, love him at the dees but we can win from moving him on.

Get Tom De koning and Carlton first round pick this year, they don't want it they just need points for FS selection. Add in our 2nd round to get a future first as well.  Get stuck into Gold Coast, freo trade future 1st for one of their 2024 first round picks.

Take 3 first round picks to the draft and try to get 3 quality players plus De Koning.  We have a good base of youngsters and some experience heads that should be around for 3 odd years.

We can rebuild quickly, but we might need to lose a favourite ti make this happen

This is what we need to be thinking about now. Trades this year can't be taking place in a vacuum. Do we seriously think we are a genuine contender without the number one score involvment player in the comp?? For a team that can't score?? (4-6 without him) I definitely don't.   If we draft these nqrs, we probably eek out a 6-12th finish and then struggle through the Tassie charity years.    we need to swallow this bitter pill and set us up for the back half of the decade. If it sounds like I'm throwing the baby Trac out with the bath water I am.

Ultimately the club should have been on the phone to the family and partner when he was in ICU.

The club could have even sent Ubers for the family and things like that.

Tell me Eddy at the Pies wouldnt have don't all that.

I have met Kate a few times and always been impressed with her but to admit either correctly or by mistake that she hadn't spoken to his parents or family was a major error.

Yeah good time to bottom out a little and trade in some youth and draft pics before Tassie comes in.

I agree..... but.....

It's very hard to unhear or unsee something. Someone wrote it's akin to say your partner cheating on you and then you get back together.  The TRUST is never the same.  Yes you can work through it but often flounders.

The difference in games can be just a % or two of effort, a cm here a cpl of secs there. If EVERYONE  is not on same page going in same direction....you're stuffed.

I think this was on show through our season.
