I noted elsewhere in this thread why Goodwin lost me after last night.

I agree this is not the time to change. It would be a knee-jerk reaction and look like optics management. The Board would make better use of their time asking why the FD review implementation has gone off the rails.

imv it is imperative we get a CEO before acting on the coach. We just can't afford to have our total management chain in caretaker mode.

I think we should ride the storm until then which hopefully is before the bye. Then the CEO can act on the coach.

btw, poor form if Bickely (premiership teammate of Goodwin) relayed a private conversation.

It was mentioned as 'alleged' in the third para of the post I quoted and I qualified my comment with 'if'.

This is all rubbish.

The interview was actually Bickley saying he ran into Goody and that Goody was very confident about things going into the Dons game.

As noted I was referencing a prior post where the poster clearly said 'allegedly'.

Good that you clarified the situation.

Just stating the facts. Bickley did not say anywhere anything about Goodwin feeling the pinch or that the situation was dire. Quite the contrary

I have edited my post to make it clear the rumour has been refuted.

According to Jay Z.

Melbourne president Brad Green says players and coaches must drive team’s response to terrible start to the season. But there were no guarantees on the future of the senior coach Simon Goodwin amid scoring woes

Ox on SEN:

“It’s not a Simon Goodwin thing, and I don’t care what you say, it’s not about the coach. By all accounts, the players are playing for him.

I think it’s a holistic part with the club, where the club have just got a lot of things wrong over the last 12 months and its playing catch up with them now. It starts with culture, and it starts from the top down. We know that Melbourne have had massive problems with their board. They were in a legal dispute for many years… they’ve got no CEO, they’ve had all new line coaches, so all the players are dealing with new coaches. That is some sort of adjustment. They are professional players, but they have got a lot wrong over the last couple of years and its now coming to smack them.”

"Groundhog Day": Where to now for the winless Dees?

"My advice would be to find out who wants to be there."

Mark Bickley:

“If things were really easy to fix, smart people like Simon Goodwin would fix them but they are clearly not easy. What I saw last night was Christian Petracca down on confidence. There were times he went to put the foot down, but he just got caught, he doesn’t have that explosiveness that perhaps he once had. (Jack) Viney wasn’t impactful at all, Max Gawn didn’t look like the player he’s been to be an eight-time All Australian, so whether they’ve shouldered a fair bit of the load for a long time.

Is that now? Is that the psychological burden that they’ve carried for the last three or four years where they’ve tried to get themselves out of this hole? What I do see is a team that looks like they are burdened with something. How do you release that burden? That’s the challenge I’m sure Simon Goodwin is talking to his assistant coaches about."

Melbourne’s ex-CEO knew Goodwin was ‘the one’. It led to a ‘what the f**k’ moment

We are zero and 5 . Easily the worst team in the comp. I honestly don’t know what the brains trust are thinking. For three years we have had no kpf’s , we struggle to reach double figure goals. We recruit a player at the end of 2022, he kicks 5 goals that could have been 8 in the reserves last week does he get a game last night. No we go with a bunch of short average players. We continue to play players who have been poor for weeks and in the case of Fritz for two years. Why is Spargo playing he was poor in 2023, played one quarter in 2024 and continues his form of 2023. He is a big average player doesn JVR think he can turn in [censored] for weeks on end and all is well. Wheels haven't fallen off we don’t have any. Sorry Simon is time to go. Give some of the reserves a chance. If Jefferson is fit play him next week, play Fullerton. Fritz and JVR to Casey plus Spargo. We need 5-6 changes next week. We need a coach with new ideas and a plan that our players can execute.

Referring to the Demons’ "brains trust" at 0-5 is like calling a flat tire high-performance—optimistic at best, delusional at worst.

Derm's comments about that it "looks like the players run the club" is starting to ring really true for me. Every time I hear about the review, it seems like most of the changes made were to appease the players rather than the benefit of the club. We've heard about players choosing when to come in to the club to give them total flexibility, we've seen the training schedule change, which seems to be impacting our fitness. I wonder if Goodwin is too close to the players to actually draw the line here.

Been saying this a while. Best coaches are the ones you respect and work hard to earn their approval. Not ones you are friends with. Players run the show at our club. Players like that need to be shown the door. I’ve heard from sources inside the club we have a few who influence others in this space

Its a club of 43 players and associated coaches and board. Get a room holding 100 people and thrash out a response from Green that they all understand and commit to.

I remember reading Jim's book & when he took over the presidency & Dean Bailey was in charge and talking about the players not being at training one day because they didn't feel like it.

I know it's a different list and staff but maybe the issues always been there

Check out Chandler's body language in this clip

This is not ok. A horrible place for this club to end up in in a very short timeframe really.

‘They’re broken’: Glaring Demons ‘flaw’ exposed as fresh details over Petracca saga emerge

I’m a bit over the “we had a good quarter” and “look at our inside 50s” rhetoric.

It’s Round 5 and we’ve only kicked 3 or more goals in 5 quarters. That’s the worst in the league. We should be talking about having one quiet quarter a game, not one good quarter!!

Looking at total points scored so far we’ve kicked 305 points. Second worse. Just two goals ahead of West Coast’s 293.

They’ve had 3 years to fix the forward line and instead invested in a midfield and defensive game plan - which the rest of the league hasn’t and it’s passed us.

Goody deserves the respect of ending our premiership drought and for one of the most exciting years of footy.

But four years later and we’re now 2nd bottom of the ladder and haemorrhaging. Pride comes before the fall. The game plan hasn’t worked out. Let’s move on and rebuild.

People might think I'm crazy but this all stems from lacking a true home of belonging. Do players feel at home in Casey? At AAMI Park? Your work is your home away from home. It's been an issue since Barrassi was playing. And we'll always end up in this cycle until we have a true home. It's a daunting task for any prospective CEO. And even tougher for a coach when he is trying to get his players "into the club". Pies players "hang out" at Olympic Park. Our players hang out on the golf course.

His player whispering magic has disappeared out the door. The special skills .... well... we have sfa..

He's on a good wicket eh 😏

I.e why is he there ???

least we got some yellow stripes on our footy though.

2025 and we are 0-5

We have lost 10 of the last 11 games. Yes, 1 win from 11 games.

When is that ever acceptable, with 15-16 premiership players playing recently.

The message is lost, the players are speaking. Goodwin needs to go. If true that the players are running the club (is Goodwin too chummy?) Then he still needs to go, a fresh voice and a little fear will put the players back in their spot.

Also, tactically and selection wise I don't rate Goodwin at all, some will be happy with a flag but the amount of spin to come out of his mouth has gotten him this far. The players look rudderless and there is no obvious game plan to me.

I also don't think Green is right for the job.

Cut Goodwin now before we lose our kids (and probably Petracca, Pickett & Oliver) and put Bassett in charge and spend the next 5-6 months looking for our next coach.

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
