It's just unfathomable that people believe Goody is not a major part of the issue.

Whether it's selection integrity, an inability to motivate our senior players, lack of positional change, slow to adapt, it is clear as day that this club needs a change at the top. I just cannot believe that there are supporters who think he still has what it takes and that he is not part of the problem.

The signs are as clear as day that the senior group are simply not responding. And when that occurs, you know something is up.

Having been involved in high level sport, I can only imagine how Goody's repetitive, boring and robotic messaging around 'what we value', 'what needs to be at the level', 'how we want to play' must be landing. One of the most important attributes of a coach is motivating a playing group and he is simply failing abysmally in this area. The writing is absolutely on the wall.

Do supporters realise we were almost at full strength and Carlton were missing half their best 22 just about? That is a [censored] disgrace. A disgrace.

I don't care what it costs financially, if supporters believe that this senior group is going to bounce after another pre-season of Godwin's messaging, you've lost it. I know for a fact from certain people connected with the club that there were already a handful of players who were against the way Goody wanted to play. That they thought it was not working, was boring, boring for the fans. I mean it's clear as day that there's truth in that given the lack of fight, motivation and connectedness across the group week to week in match day performance. Absolutely clear.

If he stays next year, we might see more senior players want out than we'd like. If he goes and we bring someone like Buckley in, I can see a spike in performance immediately from a senior core group who are desperate for a fresh voice and someone who can set a new standard and bring a rebirth of motivation, performance standards, lightness and fun.

This current setup is dead. Goodwin will talk positives in every media conference, he'll continue to spin the "I have incredible belief" talk no matter how bad it gets.

The decision needs to be made.

But heโ€™s really good friends with the players.

Thatโ€™s because we have been in interim mode since Roffey & Pert departuresโ€ฆ long term decisions canโ€™t be made itโ€™s been an unstable club forever even during our premiership & what come after is a cause of our current position!

Roos and Jackson set us up to be a serious club that has the respect of the competition and competes each season.

With typical Melbourne hubris we have [censored] it up against the wall, that's what angers me.

If its anything to go off based on what David Zita was saying on FOX after the game then get use to having Goody "for 2026 and beyond" He said the club fully backs Goodwin and want to add experience players and not get younger

Tough pill to swallow losing last night in itself but then to hear that news was even more deflating.

I heard that too but if we lose members, lose sponsors, have Low game attendances on top of that the media pressure this attitude will change. A new chairman and prez will not want to be in charge of the titanic Things can change quickly

I donโ€™t think he was talking to Guerra from memory it was someone on the board.

Had a Melbourne membership call last year offering a special deal. I told her that everyone in my immediate family would buy a full membership as soon as Goody is gone. To her credit she wrote down my pledge and said she would pass it on. I asked her if others have said similar and she said a lot of people she is calling are disillusioned with where the club is.

His legacy is already tainted as he is putting his own interest above the needs of the club. He needs to go before everyone loses hope.

Damning.

On membership: I have been a long-time member and pay for the Tridentโ€™s category - so not cheap. I have been to all the games in Melbourne for years and many games in other states. I would also think that I would be one of the most travelled supporters who has laid out more than most in terms time and money to attend games given I live in NSW and fly to the games in Melbourne each week. So I donโ€™t expect anyone would be able to doubt my commitment to the club.

However, I decided today that I canโ€™t be bothered going next Sunday to Marvel (a ground that I dislike and where my reserved seat lapses under my home and away membership). I kept going through the decades of bad years - faithfully. Someone once asked me why I kept turning up when the team loses so by so much so often. I replied: โ€œThere is an aesthetic in the struggleโ€ - and that was my approach.

I would, of course, regularly interrogate myself to wonder why supporting a team is so irrational (especially in the context of the MFC). My father supported MFC so I did - a childโ€™s commitment. What is the adult logic in that? I have never successfully answered that question to my own liking. It is what it is, as they say.

At any rate, I am done for the time being. I am sick of the nonsense that the coach pumps out in his weekly media appearances. It is frankly insulting. It is not about getting โ€˜value for moneyโ€™. It is about not being part of a scam and the way the coach smoothly shifts between โ€˜learningsโ€™, โ€˜it is not about winningโ€™, โ€˜we are building somethingโ€™, โ€˜the game plan is about to be understoodโ€™ and all the rest of the corporatised nonsense he gets from some management training seminars or wherever just insults the intellect of the membership.

The lack of response from the senior management who seem to cosy up and enjoy the wine and food on game days but refuse to publicly take responsibility. It is ludicrous that we have an interim leadership who cannot do anything because we are waiting for the real leadership to arrive - when we are in the throes of a football season where key decisions are required and we are performing so intolerably.

So I have decided to not go this weekend and save the travel time and dollars and my happiness.

There is no aesthetic in being scammed by the club any longer.

When October comes up, I will review my long-term membership status - currently I am doubtful I will continue if the senior coach is still there at the head of the scam.

I have the MFC/MFC renewal email sitting in my account right now for next year

I havenโ€™t made up my mind what i am going to do yet.

I will wait until the CEO joins and see what his strategy is.

I hope people inside the Club do read this siteโ€ฆ.

There aren't examples of coaches in the AFL era winning a GF, rebuilding, then winning again with same club.

Longmire went very close. Malthouse rebuilt and finally won after the early 2000s losses. Geelong have never done a full rebuild, and Chris Scott inherited the team for his first flag.

Precedent isn't everything, but history says Goodwin won't be the one getting us back to the top.

It would not surprise me at all if he stays on next year. As a cash strapped club I doubt we will want to pay two coaches at the same time.

After watching the Presser last night, I'm starting to wonder if Goody is starting to lose some of the players. That's now a couple of really poor starts where he's indicated that the players effort and intensity were to blame. Goodwin is banging on about not wanting to waste a minute of this year and set us up for next year but it seems to me the players just aren't buying that message.

Dont need to watch pressers ..

Just watch games.

Now is the winter of their discontent !!!

Another thing,

It doesnโ€™ ttake that long to embed a new game plan / playing style. Think Craig McRae, Brad Scott is constantly resisting his; even Dean Cox has got his up and running.

Gold Coast has latched on to Dimma's. Kingsley hardly had a blimp. Yze is progressing quickly.

Players adapt to rule changes almost overnight, they can also adapt to game play!!*7

In addition to this the saying in footy itโ€™s not just who you play but when you get them, ie after a short break, after a bye, multiple players out injured. But at this time of year most teams are starting to hit their straps yet with us itโ€™s almost like we reset every week and any momentum gained the week before is completely lost. We cannot use youth as a reason which could be understandable with some other teams.

Goodwin โ€œ weโ€™re trying to build somethingโ€.

Oh come on Goodwin, just more Spin.

Been there 9 years, gone backwards despite having most of the premiership team still on the list.

Why is he TRYING to build something now?

He just needed to steer the ship straight after 2021 but appears heโ€™s been asleep at the wheel.

The blame for our demise starts with him.

Totally agreeโ€ฆyet to understand the strategy after winning the flag regarding list mgt and the glaring hole we had in a big fwd given the state of BB knee issues, a young list winning a flag were they expecting more growth? Signing long term deals did that restrict them chasing free agents etc? Very evident who they traded in were very average, looking at cats strategy which has been clear since the expansion clubs is they target quality free agents & blend it with youth and supported with strong culture. Whilst Goodwin time is up I think the whole footy dept needs to take responsibility and list mgt but they may be guided from the footy dept on what they can spend etc

Agree, there's systemic issues across multiple areas at the club that were completely plastered over by virtue of our previous win / loss records and top four finishes. Although the signs were definitely there at the time, none of our current demise is at all surprising. Many of our on-field issues should've been addressed at the end of 2022. Although some may say we sought to make changes, I think our list management decisions at the time were questionable if you look at them without any bias or in totality of the list / deficiencies.

The trouble is that it's easy to look in hindsight.

It is, but there have been many, many decisions that also looked pretty bloody ordinary at the time they were made and even worse in hindsight. Exhibit A: Bailey Laurie's two year contract extension in early 2024.

That is always true, but quite a few of our actions / inactions were critiqued at the time, either on this forum or in the media.

Edit: I'd also add that you would think a professional sports side may have better foresight than what we exhibited.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.ย

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
