I guarantee you he will be gone if we lose to wce or Richmond pal

I think you will find if things get completely out of control Brad Green will be in consultation with Steven Smith.

Can you now see why Kate Roffee and Gary Pert were so happy to step aside from this mess.

Sometimes, yes. On this post though (which happens to be mine), no.

Smith is a current board member. He has to be consulted regardless.

Both of them didn’t step aside…..

Considering Steve smith is our next president then of course he will consult with him

I was trying to be polite.

They went with little fuss.

Happy to go!

If Smith wasn't on holidays he'd be in the hot seat not Brad Green is that fair to say?

2 hours ago, whatwhat say what said:

i very much doubt any coach is going to be coming into our club going 'oh, just get rid of two of the best five players, don't worry, i love a long slow rebuild'

no chance - any coach who comes in will want to RETAIN our best players, not jettison them

That said, it might be easier for a new pair of eyes to trade out one or two guys, get some picks to go with our last four 1st rounders.

We'll still have a number of veterans who can play roles as the likes of Pendlebury and Sidebottom did for Collingwood in 2022 and 2023.

I also agree with @Lucifers Hero (it was you, right?) that we need a ball movement coach and a strategy coach. They could be one and the same, but I don't understand what role Nathan Jones is actually playing aside from apparent peacemaker.

I'll be so annoyed if we miss out on Longmire and Carlton get him.

It's time to rip the band-aid off.

It'd be a very Carlton thing to go and get a messiah in Longmire.

He's finished.

but no coach coming in is going to want to lose the calibre of those players

i'm less concerned about jones as he's four games in, but i'd love to know what choc williams has been 'teaching' the players

for the most part, it's very hard to think of a single players whose skills haven't regressed

A problem with getting old is you see obvious things that need fixing from a lifetime of footy playing and watching.

No one consults the old so I’m all for a new set of eyes.

That person would likely say.

Gawny, we are gonna get you some help on the ground and with leadership

Windsor , you are gonna be a 10-15 year wingman for the Club. Learn your trade and we’ll give you all the help you need.

Fritta, keep working hard, it might be closer than you think to all coming together

Viney, you are a role player now. Forget the stat sheet except for tackling.

McVee, Thorstup, Lindsay, Langford, Chandler, Windsor. We will teach you to be a mini leadership group if you are fully committed.

Oh haha I couldn’t sense the sarcasm :)

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before in this thread - do we have to pay out full contract of Goodwin if we terminate before the contracted end date or did the AFL bring in a max payout cap. If the latter, we should be on our bike in the hunt to secure the best replacement before other clubs are in the hunt (eg Carlton, if not already)?

Only twelve months.

Rivers got to be part of that new leadership group.

I have zero faith in this current board.

Watching a train wreck from the comfort of leather chairs in the box.

Green is not a president but a puppet

What are you people talking about? He's trying to implement a new plan with faster ball movement, but the players aren't delivering. Kicks straight to the opposition, no-one backing up to take a quick handball, handballs to the feet of team mates, and kicking poorly at goal don't win games. Our skills aren't that good and we don't have enough players who can take a contested mark. Is that the coach, the recruiting department or the development coaches?

“Our skills aren’t that good”

Why aren’t they that good??

That is on the Coaching and Fitness Staff

That IS the core problem

Our skills aren’t are not up to elite AFL standards

Unfortunately they are Twitter/X cards that either Twitter or this site randomly don’t display properly. I can’t get a proper answer from either the software makers or Twitter regarding this.

Thanks for the response Andy. Hmmm, I wonder if people who own a twatter account don’t have the same issue. Anyway, don’t go to any lengths to appease that company, if that’s what’s required.

A really simple fix - teach the players to pass the ball to where the player will be, not where they are. Force the forwards to LEAD UP at the kicker.

We continue to bomb the ball onto peoples heads, which then encourages JVR to play back shoulder and try to get over the back. When Koz put the ball in front of Turner into space, it made him lead up at the ball and got the mark and goal.

We continue to handball behind or at the shoelaces of players and then have to stop to collect it, meaning we are under pressure and get tied up, rather than being able to move through and break out of the stoppage.

This also means that we do not know where people are going to be and simply see jumper kick to jumper.

Imagine if we fixed just this one thing!!!

What makes it so infuriating is it is under 14s stuff. Put the ball in front of your teammates/to their advantage.

100% wholeheartedly agree with Kane Cornes. The AFL has gone past Goodwin.

Watching Croms and GC right now

We are playing a totally different game to AFL ‘25

It’s bordering on ridiculous

Goodwin is just not reading the modern trends at all

It’s an open game now

I’m standing by our man.

The assistants are shocking.

The so called players are aged, slow over paid and cooked.

I wrote last week in an article that Simon should return to the box, and there he was, trying his hardest.

No this is on Gawn, Viney, Petracca, Oliver.

Next year they will be joined by May and dear Tommy Mac.

All contracted to the eyeballs.

He’s been in the box all season so far. Probably because he needs to be better across what Jonesy is doing up there.

That aside, I refuse to indulge the rest of your argument, except to say that yes, Goodwin is trying his hardest.

And that’s the problem.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
