Remember the "He'll just want to go back to WA" panic when we drafted him? I do.

Love this. Well done Kolt.

I think next up is Judd McVee on a 10 to 15 year contract extension please. Thanks Tim.

3 young guns here for the long haul

Bloody Tim Lamb, re-signing all our youngsters. What a disgrace.

The Mousepack is steadily signing up for roughly the remaining careers of Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, May, Lever, etc., etc. - I reckon recognising how valuable that will be to them, both in the moment and for their futures. And then, hopefully, they will become the group their successors want to sign on to continue to play with!

And, not beyond the realms of possibility, the remaining Melbourne careers of Goowin and the coaching team...

And that useless Simon Goodwin who players love to play under.

And Rivers and Kozzy, need them to be Demons for life

Both are signed until 2027, as they both extended last year.

I dare say it was a good move to re-sign Rivers before he explodes as a midfielder.

I love this kid - but....

Do we jump too quickly with some of the contracts based on a handful of games?

Yes, he's going okay (at best), but has done nothing to warrant a 4 year extension at this point. Why not hold for off 12 months?

How's the ridiculous Laurie extension looking at the moment?

Long contract but I like it. Building the nucleus of our next premiership side with these guys.

Exactly the same thing was said about Rivers, McVee and Roo when they originally extended.
We obviously don’t think we will delist him in the next 4 years and believe it’s better to sign him now on less coin, than what he potentially might be worth in 2 years time.
You always have the upper hand when a player is in contract when it comes to trading as well.
It is a savvy list management move that allows us to assess our cap longer term as we try to lure bigger name players from other clubs.

What has Laurie’s contract extension stopped us from doing? He isn’t taking up a significant chunk of cap, nor would we have delisted him by now.

Four, five if you count Jefferson: roo, kolt, disco, jeffo and Windsor.

This is exactly why I like to lean into known facts rather than the where there's smoke palaver.

Known fact #1

Mutiple players have recently  recommitted to the MFC.

Of the top of my head, that list includes: jeffo, roo  chin, Petty, Windsor, the kolt, AMW (I think) and disco - and I'm probably missing some.

Apply Occam's razor to the question of why so many players, particularly young guns who would def get picked up by other clubs, have decided their medium term future lies with dees.

What is the answer?

“ Lamby Had A Little Pack”

I’m rapt about this. This guy is going to be a gun ❤️💙

Can you sign contracts when out with a brain injury? 🤔

"Get 'em while they're concussed", that's what my mum always said.

But seriously, it takes effort not to get ahead of myself on this kid. We've got a deadly weapon in our hands here.

Will be a major part of our 2028 premiership.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
