For anyone interested, here is a Full Mock Draft for 2024 done by "PommyinOz" and a few other blokes.

Looks like they had a bit of fun doing this actually!

Here is the link to it:

The guy representing the Demons chose Alix Tauru at pick #5 and Harry Armstrong at pick #9.

Not sure why he chose both talls?

But everyone is going to have their own unique opinions on who the Demons might choose in the Draft.

Nightmare fuel

The bloke who was choosing for us must not have even been a Melbourne supporter or understood our list needs.

Nevertheless, it would be fun to "get on the beers" with mates and do a mock Draft. 🤣

Luckily, Jason Taylor gets paid to do player analysis and has probably done a few mock Drafts leading up to next week already.

I don't think they've watched us since the 2023* finals when we literally had no forwards!

Did a phantom draft taking into account the proposed North Melbourne - Adelaide trade.

Ended up with O’Sullivan and Bo Allan which would be a great result I reckon.

Melbourne aren't going to bid on Kako at the pick Essendon traded to us. You can take that to the bank!

I'd be ropeable if we take Taura with pick 5.

Fancy wasting a top 5 pick on a third tall defender that can't kick while others around us take elite mids.

Only at Melbourne

You realise Taylor is one of, if not the best recruiters in the business yeah?. Would hardly bag our recruiting last 6 or 7 years which has been outstanding.

Adelaide are trading up to take Draper ahead of Carlton aren't they? Have I missed something?

That was my assumption too but reports are saying they’re all in on Jagga.

I’d usually take that stance too but considering how much we had to cough up to get the pick I’m not sure that was part of the deal.

Have another go. About 100/1 that couple.

Langford and Armstrong much better combo taking into account our mids needs and forward depth needed.

Langford kicks goals up forward and is  good high mark and Armstrong is the best forward if Tauru is not on the picks available.

I'd be bitterly disappointed in the list management group if they identify forward depth A priority over the midfield right now. It's a very real possibly in a few years time our midfield will be C grade if we don't take 2 quality mids with 5 and 9 on Wednesday

Our issue at key forward isn’t a lack of depth, especially not young depth. It’s a lack of a prime aged full forward to take the oppositions number 1 defender. You don’t fix that at the draft, especially not by picking Harry Armstrong or Tauru.

The point being Jason Taylor *the best in the business* wasn’t alone in rating Weid higher than Curnow and McKay.

Nope exactly — it was industry wide. Key fwds esp are difficult to get right but I still think in hindsight he was less of a risk but what they can’t measure is self belief and Weid els way his career transpired, just could never get out of his own head, but behaviourally exhibited better work ethic, had better hands.. as shown in that 2018 finals series — however having the pressure of Jesse leaving and being ‘the guy’ was something he admitted he never was able to handle and the form he showed became something of a nightmare for him to try and live up to.

Curnow was seen as a loose unit with huge behaviour issues that at time were seen as a no-fly zone when combined with his previous injury problems! Despite the obvious talent!

Anyone who looks back with hindsight and sues it to knock JT has no idea and no concept of recruitment and the plethora of what-ifs that carry weight — it’s more about the players he has plucked that NO ONE else rated as highly and the sheer amt of picks he has gotten right! Inc ones he wanted but got usurped on ie Holmes, Georgiadis etc

They’ll take best player with top 2 picks — it’s not about fwd depth necessarily it’s that they Think Armstrong is that good and many agree — unique kick, crazy good crash and bash at packs.. it’ll depend who’s left it’s that simple!

Armstrong is a two grabber most times, a HUMUNGOUS NO!

JT and co would’ve spoken to coaches, teachers, friends, family etc about not only their ability, but character, what makes them tick and so on.

Give me 2 relentless workers with a bit of C*#$.

Talent only gets you so far, I’ll take a Selwood any day of the week.

Go get em JT, make the right decision.

We must be looking at a different player. In the u18 Championships, he took every mark one grab. It really stood out.

His school coach, Matthew Lloyd, says he's the best one grab mark he's ever seen as a junior.

Whatever knock you want to put on Armstrong, marking is not it.

Not having a crack at you but this concept of "best available" just doesn't make sense.  How can you say "best available" when your comparing a ruck, a key position forward, a small crumbing forward and a mid?  Apples, oranges, pineapples and kiwi fruit.  What's best?

It's not just based on talent, it's based on scarcity, risk, needs and projection.  We will be picking based on best available taking into account all of these factors and what we take will be instructive.  If we believe Clarrie and Trac will be ours at their best long term then our picks are more likely to take into account May and Tmac's age.  If we believe they will both be gone next year then that will impact our choices albeit that we would hopefully have  Richmond like suite of first round picks.  If we believe Jefferson will succeed then that will influence what we take.

Our picks aren't in a bubble and what is "best available" to one club will be very different to another.  Just look at NM looking at taking Tauru well ahead of his "best available" statue.

Our picks on Wednesday will tell us quite a lot.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
