Game style

  • Very similar to the dons in some ways – high uncontested possession numbers (Bombers AFL #1 and Freo #4)
  • And a similar use of handballs to the the dons
  • And like the dons like to use of the width of the ground to try to spread their opponents and create overlap opportunities
  • BUT Freo much more prepared to go lateral and hold possession
  • That was their template against us when they thrashed us in the Alice = though they didn’t need dot hold it up much as we weren’t getting across to cover as we clearly had dead legs
  • But we are a very different team now in terms of our running power, dynamism and all team defence
  • We’ll be more than happy to let them hold onto the ball as it means we can get our d set
  • And will likely use very similar tactics as we did against the bombers to make it more difficult to chain out of stoppages and create overlap handball chains by creating congestion around stoppages, applying pressure on the ball carrier and frontal pressure on the receiver in the chain

 Prediction

  • Dees to crack in hard at it and apply too much pressure and be too strong in the contest for Freo
  • Take our chances early and we win by 17 after leading by 32 late in the last

Am really looking forward to seeing how Milk goes again.

it doesnt matter how well he does individually, hes basically like having a forward coach on the ground who slots a couple himself too

Regardless of the result today, I think we’re going to have a strong run home.IMG_9034.thumb.png.519d861877e967ba8db060db265e936c.png

With all the new faces and restructuring I’m hoping for a Great Leap Forward.

In the Pickett screamer sense or in the 'melt your household pans in low-heat backyard kilns for use in industrial steel' sense?

I was actually just thinking 'this would be a good game to secure mark and goal of the season. I suspect if we win it'll be because a few spectacular moments kept the scoreboard ticking over for us against the flow while our defense absorbed long periods of Freo time in forward half.

I’m mates with their Head of Operations. Trying to think of the perfect text message that will completely derail them. Any suggestions welcome.

Their gameplan would be more suited to Subiaco. And the surface of the new oval sucks. It’s worse than docklands and would be the worst in the league if not for Geelong.

I’m sure Goody’s implementation will be better than Mao, with less starvation of the forwards.

Also unlikely to try to wipe out the populations of Sparrows.

Unfortunately doesn't look like it's going to rain. Cool afternoon and windy. Rain expected only late in the evening.

Stop the switch we win

We also have a lot of WA boys that like to play well in from of families and friends.  And maybe a small Jab to the WA recruitment teams that overlooked them.

I reckon that’s why Laurie didn’t come in. Give Woey and break from sub. Laurie can back up his performance and not get out of form by being sub

Billings is a good sub. can play well in spurts

Woey got a corky in the last few minutes of the game. It's why he didn't fly to Perth.

I’d be very surprised if it doesn’t start raining again shortly and/ or on and off during the game. It’s a cloudy, miserable day and it’s been raining on and off all morning.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
