I think a lot of people have stopped at the headline and not listened to the full discussion. To be fair, that's a bad habit in the media in terms of sensationalising headlines to the point of dishonesty.

Listening to the full context of the segment, at least to me, it comes across as a more figurative sentence rather than a literal description. It's quite an off hand comment in the discussion. In my view, it's speaking more to Oliver mentally checking out from the Demons, as opposed to literally cleaning his locker out.

I'm guilty of that. But even as a figurative statement it's quite shocking.

In the space of five or six weeks, we've gone from Goodwin saying he's never seen a player more determined to return to his very best at the club to people reporting Oliver has no interest in being at Melbourne.

Just don't take the media seriously then.  Ignore them if it's going to bother you

You'll never beat them

But there are some truths and lies and embellishment coming from the media

How do you sort that out?  A nose for BS?  That can help but it's tricky

Take the news that Clarrie might take a pay cut ... my immediate thought was that if he definitely wants out, then that could be true

But who wants to give up hundreds of 1000's per season?

Then there's Joe Daniher who has just turned his back on $1Million

So you never know

I don't take them seriously.  Please point where I have treated the media with anything but contempt.  Problem is the world is full of gullible nutbags who take the media at face value.

Respectfully disagree.
From what I gather, we are talking about 3AW and Matthew Lloyd potentially referring to a comment made by Sam McClure.  There is nothing nuanced, figurative or creative at play here is there?

Also hell of a commute from Rich River to Shepparton, which is where Sam Manure says he is.

Lloyd? I mean seriously? Lloyd?

Wasn't he the one that destabilised Essendon to bring back his mate Hird?

That guy is a moron. He has more blood on his hands, and more bad shots at the dart board, than anyone else I can think of.

I wouldn't trust him if he told me the sun was coming up tomorrow.

Rant over on Lloyd, but maybe I missed something... why are some of the media saying Pert is now untenable. I don't want HS or Age stories regurgitated to me, more if someone with a bit of inside idea can explain things.

The fact Clarry's mum is now jumping on to de-value articles makes me feel a lot better about where the real story is and that it is mostly a Media beat up.

Just ignore as they are not really hurting the FD or the players

In fact, galvanising and using the 'us against them' is still quite relevant in sports

e.g. Port using Ginnivans comments to fire the team up ...  That stuff still works

I agree with you with regards to those who believe all the media ... but it's any excuse to get stuck into their own club for those types

But further to that those same types are really bad losers and are bitter and twisted about the club not winning the flag in the last 3 years

There's at least 10 people on this site who think that way ... and they are very loud about it too

But again, best to ignore

So it's not necessarily the media, it's those with an agenda who use the media tripe to their advantage

They'll often come out with "Where have they been wrong?"

Of course, the media are wrong constantly and we should start a thread about all their idiotic big statements they make

Robbo, Caro, Hutchy, Morris, Eddie etc mostly talk rot

He heads back home to Echuca every off season for a bit.  I was lucky enough to have a quick kick with him as he was running laps around Vic Park (Echuca's home ground) last off season.

Other than playing some junior footy in Mooroopna to get into the Bushrangers, I doubt he has many other reasons to be heading to Shepparton.

I've had a bit to do with him and think he's a ripper of a lad.  Sadly, he'll never have the polish of a Brayshaw, will to be individually the GOAT like Trac or grow a social media/business empire like Gawn.

He's just a simple country lad from hard working parents with sadly (sorry Clayton), probably not a great deal going on in his scone.

He desperately needs good role models around him to get the best out of him as without these I do worry about what will happen to him career wise.

definitely not his call, whether one thinks he's right or not

on top of this, this report is on the afl official web site and barrett is employed and writing for the afl

so what is the afl's responsibility in this? if i was the club i would be making a strong complaint to the afl

I heard Barrett on trade radio a couple of days ago saying he knows for a fact that the AFL are very concerned about how MFC is being run. Think what he wrote is him being a mouthpiece for AFL.

It's the AFL's fault for forcing Pert on us.

My view on the Oliver situation is that we, the MFC management, have decided to take off the mollycoddling gloves and call him out on the behaviors that continue and are problematic. That part of this process is to let him know if he doesn’t like it, he can look elsewhere and if he can get paid the same and the MFC are fairly compensated (picks) then we’d be open to parting. But not at our expense (I.e. we’re not paying his salary elsewhere nor accepting unders).
The point being forcing Clarry to realise how good he has it at MFC and to light a fire under him to take more responsibility for his behaviour.
Pert has the role of bad cop in this, others I’m sure are playing the good cop role.
it’s an internal player behavior issue that has, unfortunately, spilled into the public space. Which may be a good thing if it gets Clarry back focused on footy, and more mature in his interactions with club and players…

just speculation :)

As much as I live, breathe and eat football, 600 hours a day to call them on their garbage is a bridge to far.

I'm only in my early 50's, but geez I remember back in the day when football reporting involved talking about tactics and gamestyle, not who has a new girlfriend, or who was spotted at [insert latest hotspot here] club.

Sure sometimes there is smoke, but mostly it's someone seeing a campfire and calling it a bushfire. And if they are wrong (as they often are) they just ignore it and move onto the next gossip column story.

I'm sure a million dollar plus a year contract eases the pain, but it has to be draining to be in the news being talked about by people that only have a 1/10th idea of the real story.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
