PF, you’ve always been a huge Clarrie fan so it’s totally understandable that the thought of him leaving elicits such emotion. But I believe he ain’t goin’ nowhere. Certain cretins in the media have nothing else to write about so they dig up an old piece of gossip that’s way past its use-by and pass it off as ‘news’ 🙄

PS are jive bunnies a real thing? I don’t think I’ve ever met one 🤔

I was a jive bunny I guess i still am ,once a jive bunny always a jive bunny

Where there’s smoke, there’s some half wit with a match.  I reckon its all BS, but I know nuffink!

not sure why posters get so triggered by this. its typical fare in the world of AFL media.

reality is there's been noise around Clarry for the last few years. And the club did put him on notice last year. it's inevitable that there will be stories about him again.

That said, I'd be very surprised if he is traded. makes no sense when his value is at its lowest. lets see how he goes next year after a proper preseason. If he can't get back to his best then i think the considerations will be different.

Wish people would forget the lack of preseason [censored] if he aint match fit by now he never will be

I've listened to plenty of interviews with AFL players who have spoken about the importance of a good pre-season. Just look at 2019, we stunk and the club regularly spoke about the challenges we had with so many players going into surgery at the end of the year.

During the season you are battered and bruised from playing, most efforts during the week are for recovery, not gaining fitness.

Obviously you haven't a clue about impotance of a complete preseason training regime. You cannot reach optimum fitness and touch in any sport without a proper training regime.

McQualter today when asked about it - simply not true

So you mean we won't trade him and a first round pick for a packet of chips?

Gees I am shocked that Cornes is yet again talking absolute garbage. He is the Donald Trump of the AFL media pack.

Wish it was this simple mate. Unfortunately during the season you have to prioritise recovery. Means that maintenance of fitness level is really the go - outside of the L word or the 6-8 week 'mini' pre seasons that we sometimes see. Your pre-season sets up your year.

Talked to a mate about this recently who played at a high level. He missed a month or so of preseason once and said he couldn't get near it for the rest of the year, eventually his body broke down before the end as well. Full preseason the year after and he was back to his best. Feel free to take with a grain of salt as it's just a one-off anecdote. I fully expect it's the same for our boy though.

I agree l, I recall he was present from start to the camp. Then came back in Jan but was also training away from the group too. So it technically wasn’t a full pre season , but it wasn’t nothing either.

I guess I see reasons rather than excuses. Didn't miss the entire pre-season but it was certainly very interrupted. I reckon if he hadn't had that hand surgery he'd be closer as well, thought he was still looking a class above at times early. Has still managed a decent output despite these issues for mine, even if the flair we're used to hasn't been there to the same degree or as consistently.

I’m not sure I agree. Purely from a performance perspective, he is a long way off his best. Even those that say his numbers are average, there’s a lot of instances in games where effort is not apparent, which isn’t the Clarry I know.

I don’t want him to leave but if he can rediscover his best elsewhere and we get fairly compensated draft wise, I’d be happy to accept that outcome too.

They often turn up on mass at the Gosh's training. On special days they can be seen collecting awards for their work, other times they are part of the community campaigns, as guests observe the trackers. The numbers can vary from a handful, to the entire admin staff. Seems the club will work hard to be connected, given the non optimal situation of the physical separation of departments.

Thanks Kev. I’m not gonna respond to some random twerp, but apart from what you’ve mentioned above, we are constantly working with the FD to make things run smoothly. Everything we do is run by the FD first and that means we’re always working with them. There’s too many examples of our interaction to list here, but it’s an every day situation. One example of many…

Just this past weekend we needed clearance to get into Optus long before gates opened. The FD effected this, which wasn’t easy since it’s not our home ground/game. They also organised a 12-seater minibus for us to get around Perth with all our gear.

It’s equal parts amusing and pathetic to see some pimple on the face of the earth questioning what someone says when they have nfi of what happens ‘behind the scenes’ 🙄

”Greeting each other on GameDay” Lotsa LOLS right there.

I see don't really see lower 'effort' instances. Maybe less consistency of concentration, but I think fitness underpins that too.

Maybe that's the same thing anyway. It's a general interpretation thing for me though, I feel that the AFL world jumps to a 'lack of effort' when I think it's more often some combination of concentration, method and fitness issues. Lack of effort implies a character flaw which for me means a player would be very unlikely to make it at AFL level. I think when these instances occur, 9/10 times the effort is there, but it can either be misguided or caused by a lack of concentration in the moment. With lack of fitness, method and concentration drop off.

Sorry to ramble, just find the effort discussion interesting. My point is that I believe perceived lacks of effort often come down to fitness and confidence in method and I believe Clarry will be able to regain these traits along with his explosiveness if he can get a really good run at a preseason. I can't see a situation where we would be fairly compensated draft-wise for him so don't think we could ever get a good trade/wage outcome (obviously with the caveat that I can't judge any internal cohesion matters other than what my eyes tell me).

Interesting only .

Clayton played in good teams winning more games so oppo player took less votes from him than in the losing days of Robbie and Wells.

If I had one wish for 2025 is that Clayton Oliver can find himself and his form again and prove this AFL nupties wrong.

Clayton is not going anywhere.

After all the unfortunate dirty laundry aired in the off-season, there is no reason for us to come out an deny unequivocally, unless it's the truth. This garbage comes from Sam 'hot garbage' McClure. It's the media drumming up the usual [censored] they do for...surprise surprise...clicks! Then Cornes gets on it (SHOCK), and it continues.

If we ignore them, they will go away.

I follow Clarry on Insta, and together with the bits I see/hear from him along the traps he seems genuinely healthy and happy. Some people still want to see 2021/2022 Clarry RIGHT NOW - and I get that. But for a multitude of reasons (fitness, game style, tags etc), we aren't there yet. We have to get used to it. So many willing to throw a deadset champion out because of a 'bad' season (according to THEIR standards). The fact that so many other teams want Clarry should tell you enough.

Clarry is gonna get a good preseason in him. Together with his current positive mindset, hunger to improve, and the team improving, collectively, not just one guy, he is going to be a ball magnet BEAST, again, and then all those people who asked/demanded he be dropped/traded/sold down the river will be awfully quiet.

Big love to Clarry who looks like he's doing well, and our FD is happy with him. I'll take that and let's get back to the team effort to play each game out, in its entirety, and make the finals for some ultimate disruption.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
