it's a difficult one

'sell' the home game as part of a sponsorship agreement with the nt gov and make ~$800k

conversely, have a 'home' game at docklands and lose ~$200k

4 points in a tight season….

no guarantee of wins / losses regardless of location in footy these days

I think that @Sir Why You Little is also considering the impact of travel to NT vs playing another game in Vic.

I'm of the opinion that if we lose our next 2 games, then it's curtains for us.

Can't say that I agree.  If we lose the next two games to teams above us but win the last 3 to 4 vs teams below us we will make the 8.  In fact beating the teams below us helps our cause making it harder for them to dislodge us.

My view of the teams below us and their chances of making the 8:

  • Port on the same W but have to get past Carl, Syd, Dees and Freo.  Low chance
  • Coll and Hawks have incredibly difficult draws and a W behind us.  Very low chance
  • GCS has only two games of 6 at home.  They are also a W behind us. Low chance
  • WBD has the best chance of taking our spot but a W behind us.

So I'm still optimistic of making the 8 but will keep the lid on 😊

So what?

Are you putting up a White Flag…

Make Teams travel to us, and beat them

What if the NT Govt threw in, on top of the approx $800k, a charter flight from Melb to AS, and return, so we could transport a few hundred lucky MFC members (and cheer squad!) to and fro the game?

It’s not our Home Ground

We took the deal on during the dark ages to stop the financial bleeding

It’s now time to stand up and make that $800,000 through other financial streams over 12 months

it’s gone on too long

No, I'm saying the opposite. We need to stop whinging about every little thing that doesn't go our way, stop playing the victims and get on with it. Fortunately, Goody doesn't play victim, he gets on with it, and tries to plan as best as possible.

I think we're a good travelling side, and extra money is extra money. That said, the way our club tries to fundraise is pretty poor.

Yes we could do so much more in the Fundraising Department, that is my point

Other Clubs get 7-8 games at The ‘g in a row

We still sell off games, that we don’t need to.
Sure we are a pretty good travelling side, but we shouldn’t do it unnecessarily

The way we played against Freo last time we would have got smashed if played on the moon

The MCG maybe only a 70pt loss.

Agree but we need the money... it's a relatively neutral ground and we avoid the Suns in Darwin.

The rain last Saturday night killed what should have been a big crowd/pay day for a home game against Essendon

All Clubs need money, i am not disputing that, but in my opinion we give that game away too easily.
Over a period of 12 months there is no reason why $800,000 cannot be generated by a Club with 70,000 members, we need to become more innovative.
and we need to contest that 4 points in Melbourne

The head says that we should keep the NT game due to the money on offer.

The heart says play the home game at Marvel as 15,000 - 18,000 MFC fans can attend and create a genuine home ground advantage as opposed to the neutralised crowd at Alice. In fact I'd venture to say we get out numbered most game in Alice.

Fair points, but you'd suspect the air in the tyres will be deflated if we drop the next 2.

Not related to the thread, but did this bloke really ride his bike home after an AFL game 🤣

He lives in Fitzroy JJR. I've seen him ride past the Pullman whilst having a beer in there one game day.

The Port V Richmond game could be an issue.

Richmond are bringing over a VFL side which reeks of a percentage booster for Port.

A 70 point win to Port takes their percentage from 104 to 108, while ours is at 105.

Agree.

And there will mutiple games from now on where contenders are playing teams who are def out of the finals race who have put the cue in the rack.

Most of the finals contenders have at least one game left against a bottom 5 side. They’re all issues for us, unfortunately.

Simple win ALL or 5 games and we make Top 4 or enough (3 or 4 )Top8.

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
