If you've seen his home setup he has (spa, sauna, ice bath etc) you would know why he could get back so quickly.

I heard Max mention that he thought he had a stalker.

Well said Deestar. My take is that if we play how we did vs Brisbane, which I rate as our best game of the season against a very good side, then we give ourselves a good chance of beating any side.

That was also the year Collingwood had plenty of injuries going into finals and they only just lost the GF from a clutch kick from a tight angle.

Everyone is gettable this year. 1 or 2 bad injuries to any team is going to change finals.

Well we already have two of our top 5 or so out for the season through injury (Angus and CP5), another top 22 versatile tall through ? - that is 3 out for the season, and now Max for an undetermined period.

It is an enormous challenge - is not a case of when the going gets tough the tough get going??   Looking forward to what we can pull out if the hat Saturday.  Any sort of win would boost confidence for the remainder of the season.

This thread needs less #notadoctor and more @Webber

It’s an interesting one, Jaded. Little ‘avulsions’ of the fibula often happen when the lateral ligament is torn in a ‘rolled ankle’, and if they’re teensy, we tend to ignore them, so going by the ligament tear and how that’s responding. If it were a grade 1 ligament tear, they’d look to get Max up for this Saturday, so I’m thinking it’s more toward grade 2, hence the 2 games missed scenario. If Max is coming good tho into next week, they will however go by that (as per his own suggestion). The fibula chip is kinda irrelevant.

Casey track watchers who is best suited to play this weekend on current form Verrall or Fullarton?

I was highly impressed by Verrall's efforts in our pre season hitout against Carlton.

Has Verrall improved since the pre season?

I think we all knew this would happen at some point this season…surely the club had a plan when our 32 year old skipper who plays 90% ruck isn’t available for a couple of weeks?

Clearly they don't

We did have an option the other all aust ruckman who we gave away and is now in great form

He’s getting more experience.
Against Carlton, he was getting good position, but was sometimes pushed out (illegally?). I thought he also did well against Richmond.
From what I saw against Brisbane, and Darcy Fort, who is very highly regarded, he at least broke even. His stats around the ground look to be affected by Brisbane having 3 good rucks.
He’s a competitive beast, so who knows what could happen if they show some faith in him?
Having said that, Fullarton is in the box seat. His experience counts for something.

did we have a Kentfield  recruited as a big body/

Don't see how Verral has the tank to compete for a full game at AFL level. Draper is a big lad and will surely bully him around the ground, does not offer much as a contested mark either.

Unsure why we recruited Fullarton if not for these moments.

Where was Grundy supposed to be playing while he waited for Max to go down with an injury though? Clearly playing the two of them together was not working (we should never have brought him in regardless IMO).

If Fullarton doesn't get selected, then why did we recruit him?

Grundy isn't in great form.  He has been beaten (quite badly) in his last two games against Darcy/Jackson and then on the weekend by Marshall, who completely took him apart.  And in case you've forgotten, he got flogged last year by Draper and Phillips.  It was embarrassing watching his lack of ability to defend as the Bomber rucks kicked 5 on him. I get the angst about the Schache selection as sub in last years finals, but don't make Grundy out to be something he wasn't.

Clearly they have a plan and Grundy would not be happy here as you saw last year. Fullarton and Rooey plus maybe Tmac or Tommo will carry the load.

You are bringing up the last  years trading scenarios which are as I have mentioned above. The Plan is obvious.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
