May be too premature but can't sleep and my mind is racing.

Switched off the game after the Sidebottom specy on a seriously soft Turner.

What should be our squad for 2025, if you could trade, cut and promote anyone you wish?

I feel players like Woewodin and Laurie should be promoted.

Trade Petty and Sparrow.

TMac hopefully can go one more year.

BBB, Shache, Billings and Fullarton thanks for your service (well at least in BBB case)

Thoughts? What's our ideal best 23 players for next season?

We have the second coming of Josh Kelly playing in a back pocket defending the oppositions best small forward

I’d like to see Goody release the shackles for the rest of the season, what we’re currently doing isn’t working. If he’s not prepared to do so he needs to step aside. Let’s play a fast paced game and see who can cut it, are the players actually enjoying the game at the moment?

Goodwin wants Woey jnr out.  Sub 6 times then drops him in a blink

Goodwin wants Tomlinson gone.  Dropped in a blink.  Seriously showed enough to keep his spot. If I was Tommo, I’d walk out.

why recruit Mcadam, Billings, Fullarton. Three non contested footballers and Mcadam and Billings on the decline.

why continue with BBB. One leg.  Can’t bend or run.  Seriously a shame to see him like this.

why extend Laurie?? He’s a list clogger

seriously tough calls but the club won’t make them

lots of blah blah words

Quick list update and revision

key defenders: May, Petty, Tomlinson, Adams

tall defenders: Lever, D.Turner, Hore.

med/sml/running defenders: Rivers, Bowey, Salem, Mcvee, Howes

inside Mids: Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Sparrow

outside Mids: Langdon, Woey jnr, Windsor

key forwards: JVR, Jefferson, Fullarton , Kentfield

tall forwards: Fritsch, Sestan

small forwards: ANB, Pickett, Chandler, Throlstrup, AMW, K.Brown

Rucks: Gawn Verrell

thats 33

End of 24- retirements: TMCD, Melksham, BBB

Delist: Schache, JS29, Farris-white

Must be delisted ( but probably won’t): Hunter, Spargo, McAdam, Laurie , Billings.  Offer nothing.

Like when Goodwin players Fritta Half back instead of forward, what a time to be alive! 😅

Tbf, I believe BBB had one more year in his contract. It was always going to be his decision to make, can't force him to retire.

What’s most frustrating is there is only one team in the competition playing consistent footy this year, one. Teams have been falling over themselves this year, and here we are languishing outside the 8. When we decide to move it quickly we actually look dangerous at times.

We don’t move it quickly though, there in lies the issue

I’d be prepared to move on a couple of big names with trade value, in order to replenish our talent stocks. I wouldn’t move on Oliver, however, if Goodwin stays I think it will be out of our hands. Not drafting Darcy Wilson last year, and picking up a low level player in Tholstrup, will prove costly for us.

TRADE: Petty (not interested in being out there and is mentally fragile).

Sparrow: As we already have too many of similar ilk. He’s a Viney clone.

RETIRE: Billings, BBB, Hunter

DELIST: Laurie, Spargo, Hore, Tholstrup.

Replace the coach has he’s lost the group.

Very deflated coming out of that game. Not only was the execution poor, but unfortunately the effort was also missing from some players - they are either physically cooked or not fully there.

It’s odd, because until the Brisbane game, we looked good and dynamic - what has happened?!

I can’t see us making the 8 like this - we are getting bullied by teams and seem void of ideas. I also agree with previous posters that our list needs a major overhaul - too few players doing the legwork.

We will kid ourselves. Goodwin will get his way and keep the team pretty much as is for the next year or so. We will then become completely uncompetitive, even more so than now and then Goodwin will walk away for ‘personal reasons’ and we will be at the bottom when tassie comes in, resulting in an even worse period in our history than the Neeld era

Midfield needs huge rebuild

Fwd line needs to be planned and constructed around three key pillars in JVR, Fritta and Kozzy.

Curious a few people wanting to delist Spargo.

Wasn't long ago he was the  best mark rate from kicks inside 50 in the league.

Surely there is a place for that in the team? Unless you want to use him for trade collateral?

Demons 2024 reminds me of the Tigers 2021 season. Teams started to go past them, good enough to win but the decline began.

Calls to delist Spargs are nuts, when he's on he becomes one of our most important players. Just need him back fit and firing on all cylinders.

2024 is done, wasted, like 22 and 23.

we need big changes in 2025.  Get rid of list cloggers, get young blokes who might or might not have potential but if they are under 22 could be nuggets. Need to keep most of our older players to provide stability and leadership.

need to rest for next 2 games

Fritta,  Chandler, Oliver, Petty, Viney,  Sparrow . Max, Langdon, will we win games probably not, but we are not going anywhere anyway.

play Verrell, Sestan, K Brown, Laurie, Turner, Fullerton , Spargo , Tomlinson. Woewodin let them play for their future,

see if they produce anything.

at years end we should at least have Bbb retire, Smith  gone, Gus retired,  5 others delisted and or traded.

Something similar for the coaching staff as well.

If there are players likely to have surgery after the season, put them in now and get them right.

Clarry does a mini pre-season with the bye. And have someone [censored] tell him to play like the way he did when was a kid.

Today wasn't all bad either. Posters killed us, momentum is a thing.

If it means we have to play dour football to have a chance at finals, fine, do that and work on skills.

And if we don't make finals, but we're trying to be a better side for it next year. So be it.

If we don’t throw the book at a forward this year I’m microwaving my digital membership. (Yes I’m willing to lose my iPhone in the process)

I feel we need to go back to basics in the off-season. Take a leaf out of Collingwood’s book and bring back stern non-negotiables. We were the number 1 pressure side in 2021 and there’s no wonder we won the flag.

We were an anytime, anywhere side. Now we’re so flakey, that we need perfect dry conditions, against a small club at the MCG to guarantee a win.

Starting to feel that this is the year we fall back to renew our list for a push in 2025. Sort of like our 2019 or pies 2021.

A year of learning tweaks to a game plan, a year of development for key players in JvR, Windsor, Jefferson, Tholstrup and Adams. A year to add to our group with a top end draft pick. A year where we might finally have some salary cap relief and be able to afford higher quality free agents, perhaps bringing in Battle, Moyle and some mid depth.

The key problem. We're running out of time with a few of our players we're so reliant on in May, Gawn and Viney all getting on and, bar Gawn, showing a sign of decreasing performance.

2025 is perhaps the last time we can seriously challenge with the current list at our disposal. We need to start getting all our decisions right from here.

Top end a draft pick? Through being mediocre, trade? Or perhaps both.

Depends how you see the rest of our season ending up. We currently have pick 9 and we always like to trade up.

Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Brisbane are below  us, and they should comfortably finish above us, so we’ll probably end up with pick 6 or lower.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
