We're Big 4 now.

Being a good side helps, we get the best time slots to attract big crowds.

With how we're travelling at the moment we could see 20k at the Saturday night game against North Melbourne.

Last Sunday’s 6,100 would have really bolstered those numbers….

Interesting that the media continues to push the narrative that we dont attract crowds. If I'm not mistaken we've been top 5 for attendances the past 3 years at least.

If we get done this week, the club will be absolutely fearful of the crowd for the North game.

Last year we only got 29K to the corresponding game, even though we'd come off a good ANZAC day eve win and were 4-2 with hopes still sky high.

We could be coming into this game with a 1-4 record from the last 5, while North's contribution to the crowd will be 4 people and a dog. Sub 20K could be on the cards if it's a freezing cold and wet June night.

 

We still have home games against North/West Coast/Port/GWS and none of those are going to hit 30K plus the usual 13K on the Gold Coast when we go up there and Brisbane could be under 25K this year at the Gabba. Understand we have Essendon and Collingwood as home games but our average attendance is going to drop considerably.

We are not big 4. We have our own little place below Collingwood/Carlton/Richmond/Essendon and just below Hawthorn and probably Geelong. 

As [censored] as it sounds, People are usually right when they say our crowds are bolstered by having home and away games against the big 4.

That’s BS. We aren’t big 4 but we are next. Our conversion rate of total fans to crowd numbers is probably close to best in the league. The criticism of us is BS.

So are the Big 4. Dreamtime, ANZAC day, etc. Even King's Birthday draws good number of Dees supporters when it's Collingwood's home game.

 

And Geelong's home games at the G aren't moved there because of the Geelong supporters, it's the other big clubs supporters who would otherwise miss out.

It is. I ran some numbers a few weeks back and we are on par with Freo with average crowd as a percentage of members for last two years.  Its a giant myth our fans don't turn up.  Whether we have enough fans, that's another story.

The criticism is BS because people expect us to be bigger than we actually are.

Hawthorn are easily a bigger club than us, spare me with that argument. They just drew 37,000 against Adelaide for a game that was 13th v 14th, we wont get near that (the 33k against them last year was excellent for us).

The average crowds as a percentage of members are a great stat for us and we have always done well in that area. That doesn't mean that we are a bigger club than that poster seems to think we are.

Our playing a home game in Alice doesnt help nor will the home games against dumpy interstate sides.

Hopefully we ditch the NT game in 2025.  We'll drop below Richmond Swans and Geelong even Hawks  before seasons end. Could easily finish up 8th.

Better pick up our game and the crowds will come.

Sportsbet has now got Mondays game even stevens. Pies were favourites. Must be injury issues.

Nah. They’ve never averaged above 40k home attendances, even 2015 winning their 3rd flag on the trot ave home crowd was 38,626.

2017 and 2018 we averaged higher home crowds and we hadn’t even got good yet. We’ve beaten them 5 out of the last 6 years on home attendance (excl 2020 - no crowds).

Part of that is because they play 4 games a year in Launceston. 

The data shows though that we’re 2nd only to Fremantle in the percentage of members we draw to our games. 

That has to remain the case even if our form drops. At a time when Tasmania is gearing up to take members off the other clubs, Carlton and Essendon are going well and want to transfer home games to the G, and the AFL has to find a use for Marvel, we cannot afford (almost literally) to see our crowd numbers disintegrate. 

Too many MFC members stop going to games as a form of protest against bad form. Please don’t do that. It will make the club worse off.

They play four games a year in Launceston so your numbers are not a true reflection.

2017 we were a 12-10 team and in 2018 we played in a prelim so not sure what you are on about.

My numbers are a true reflection of how many people they get to games, which is not as many as us which is why I don’t know why you’re determined to pump them up as a big club

Ok, if skewing the statistics and ignoring blatant facts makes you happy then sure.

We're about to get another big nudge on Monday with the reports it's a sell out. 

The whole measurment is comprimised though, we've played home games in Adelaide and Alice and only 4 home games at the G. 

Plus the Adelaide and Perth teams would draw bigger crowds if their ground capacities were larger.

Well done Dees fans for a great turnout today!

32K was massive overs for that game.

Sunday 1:10pm is great for families plus the kids going free deal worked perfectly.

It is really really annoying that our home games against Port and GWS are Saturday Night games and not Sunday/Saturday early arvo games.
